... the so-called ISIS attack happened in Texas while the Texas National Guard was busy guarding against a wingnut fever dream of a US military takeover?

The Texas National Guard isn't - the Texas STATE guard is.

Please to be correcting the VLWC

So, what you are saying is that the U.S. Military, Obama, and ISIS are working in conjunction by distracting Texas on one front and then attacking on another.

The VRWC was having a chcukle at the VLWC over this y'day

I can see what Abbott's doing here - and I can also see the bad optics

You watch too much MSNBC. The idea that it was a "wingnut fever dream"
is totally trumped up.

Yes/no - there absolutely is a small but VERY vocal group running around baying about Jade Helm - first caught sight of them when WalMart closed a couple stores.

I guess when your side does something so undeniably wacko as this, you have to get your laughs where you can.

Pandering to the most far-out elements of the tinfoil hat crowd? Yeah I can see how that might look kinda bad.

Um....the VRWC was laughing at A) the state guard v nat'l guard bit and B) the whole 'stave off' headline - there's nothing to "stave off", but "liase" or "monitor" just aren't sexy.

Pluseth, if NPR wants and neeeeeeeeds to go with "stave off", they're saying that there IS something to "stave off" and stating that Texath is being invaded..... :)

Headline writers on the VRWC are just as bad.

And it looks really bad too if he doesn't act to assuage fears and concerns, answer questions, etc - sure, there are a gazillion ways to do this - otoh, it IS Texas we're talking 'bout

Here's what I'd like to know - from where did the Abbott notice first hit the press - did his office release it proudly or was it found and trumpeted elsewhere? First I read about it was last week on Salon - a "zomg, Texicans are such goobers" type of article

What the heck does that have to do with the Texas State Guard?
Them being present during exercises is kind of like state troopers
being present during a FBI training...

The Jade Helm Martial Law crowd is convinced that the exercise is actually a takeover move by the US Gov't - the shut down WalMarts will be used as detention centers or processing or something like that.

Got that?

Okay - so then when Abbott asked the TSG to monitor, he's showing that he's part of that group too - and that he's deploying the TSG to fight against the hostile Yankee invaders.

Or something like that.

Like I said, it has baddish optics and is really easy to make fun of. I can also see why Abbott did this - both as a politician and a governor

So? It is a different hash dream than the ones Salon is having. If
you paid attention to every ditzy group on either side of the political
spectrum, you'd go insane.

The only reason the SJWs -- who exhibit a similar level of delusionary
action -- are getting so much press is that they are somehow having
influence at our educational institutions due to Title IX. This is a
much more damaging thing, as huge amounts of federal funding are used
in education, and the amount of wasted money due to it is staggering.

Since anyone with half a brain would do it anyway, as you like to know
what is going on in your state and it is a good training opportunity.

Yeah sure - and yes, Abbott is trying to score cheap political points - as is Perry.

If Abbott asks for more than monitoring, then no.

Pluseth, the Army would be badly outgunned if they tried to invade Texath - so it's a moot point anyway.
