Is that all there is to it?
My dad once told me that Sullivans liked the taste of whiskey better
than any other taste. His only advice was you will master it or it
will master you.
The idea that someone other than me would control me was unacceptable.
One thing always held me back - I did not gracefully accept being
bossed by inferiors in superior positions until I passed them. I don't
understand lack of pride and self-confidence. Yet one d-i-l was magna
cum laude at Vandy in Math and Comp Sci but has little self-confidence
and she comes from a wealthy family, upward social circle. She can
cook, make drapes and do car repair after reading the instructions
(before they both had Mercedes).
Growing up around me I'm not surprised that our sons and grandsons
have pride - maybe a little surprised at their complete
self-confidence. Some people you can't beat down just because you make
it a little tougher.
I don't drug and I don't have to drink because someone else does. I
remember drinking a coke after bowling when everyone else was having
an alcoholic beverage.
Why are so many people so weak? Is it because we lack personal
responsibility?
Houston, we have a problem.
