Not really. When you think about it, we're heading to about 4 20-team superconferences, at least for football.

What's with that? Where's the buzz from those schools?

I don't get it. I don't think they bring the eyeballs and they simply
do not fit.

Yeah - just not seeing it at all. Seems like a lame attempt to get
the DC/NYC markets - but there's nothing those schools add.

agreed....probably the 'source' was within the maryland athletic dept.

Another main issue, though, is that even if they did maryland has a 50 million dollar buyout from the acc.

Fifty million.

That alone makes it a no go. 10 and maybe even 15 million dollar buyouts are feasible. Maybe 20. Not 50.

Once again, a small rating among 20 million is still a lot viewers.

With all the tradition of Maryland in ACC basketball, I find
it hard to believe they'd dump all that to move to the Big Ten. And
Rutgers? I grew up in New Jersey, and I don't know anybody who went
to Rutgers.

Oh right, so if Duke gets invited to the Big Ten, it's just
going to up and dump North Carolina and the ACC, because who cares.

I think it's nuts based on tradition, but tradition doesn't carry the
water anymore - which is more than obvious. I don't know why you're
getting nasty about it.

in going to either of those places as a Badgers fan - if I want to go

You are naive. If the ACC ends up losing FSU and Clemson, and the Big
Ten decides to add a couple more and invites UNC, you think UNC is
going to stay in the ACC because of a couple basketball games with
Duke???

what people don't seem to realize around here is that if UNC is so hot-
to-trot to play Duke every year, then they schedule it as OOC.
It's not like UNC can never ever ever play Duke again if they go to
the Big 10.

I admit I didn't know how bad MD was doing financially -- dropping
7 sports is pretty serious. The tipping point is alumni contributions vs.
TV revenue, and if any of the NC schools consider leaving, that will be
a different equation.

Pitt is as well - just feel like they're a better fit than either of
these teams.

This just smells like expansion for the sake of expansion - or, as the
smug have been pointing out, expansion for the sake of the all important
Big Ten Network footprint.

I feel like most of the people on the blogs - damn sure don't like the
idea of playing Wisconsin and PSU even less often so we can add Rutgers
and Maryland to the mix. Ugg. The only fans that seem to be having a
favorable reaction to this are the PSU folks. Double-ugg.

Cheers.
