Malik Obama confirms his half-brother Barack grew up a Muslim

Malik holds a photo of Obama and him in Muslim dress, reportedly when
the two first met in 1985

Apparently the Obamas of Kenya have been reading those scurrilous
emails to which Barack likes to refer, because they have no doubt --
contrary to the claims of the Obama campaign, that the presidential
candidate was raised a Moslem. They take that as a given.

As the Jerusalem Post reports, "Barack Obama's half brother Malik said
Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the
Jewish people, despite his Muslim background. In an interview with
Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of
Kenya."

The Obama brothers' father, a senior economist for the Kenyan
government who studied at Harvard University, died in car crash in
1982. He left six sons and a daughter. All of his children - except
Malik -- live in Britain or the United States. Malik and Barack met in
1985 in the US.

"He was best man at my wedding and I was best man at his," said Malik
in a 2004 interview with an AP reporter. Their paternal grandfather,
Onyango Hussein Obama, was one of the first Muslim converts in
Nyangoma-Kogelo, Malik said."

In a remarkable denial issued last November that still stands on the
official campaign website, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs issued a
statement explaining that "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was
not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian."

Apparently Malik Obama, himself a Muslim, had not read the press
release.

Melanie Phillips is the most recent commentator to draw attention to
the massive body of evidence that leaves no doubt that Barak Hussein
Obama was born a Muslim (Islam is patrilineal) and raised a Muslim (so
registered in school, acknowledging attending Islamic classes,
reported accompanying his step-father to the mosque, and able to
recite the Koran in the original Arabic).

Reuven Koret, Aaron Klein and Daniel Pipes have previously pointed to
the attempts by Obama and his campaign to conceal the candidate's
Muslim background. The well documented evidence draws upon the
on-the-ground interviews by researchers in Indonesia and Kenya,
published quotations of Obama's childhood friends and his school
records, as well as the candidate's own autobiography.

It is not clear whether Barack Obama will now disown his half-brother
Malik for acknowledging that shared family background. In any case,
some one should notify "Fight the Smear" tout de suite. Perhaps they
can get him with the program.

When they first met in 1985.

So... he knows how Obama was raised how exactly? Obama was born in 1961.
That means they met the first time when he was 24. His half-brother
knows about Obama's upbringing by crystal ball maybe?

So what? What does it matter if Obama did grow up in the Muslim
community? This in no way, shape, or form changes his credentials for
running for president. Do you have a fear of Islam or something?

No one is born a Muslim or any other religion. I don't give a damn how
the muslims define it. Babies do not have religion. Children who
aren't mature enough to understand what they are saying don't have
religion either.

Agreed entirely. The religion of the parents should not be attributed
to the child. However, take it a step past that. He is an adult now,
and even if he has chosen Islam as his poison, so what? Does choosing
one deity over another make a person more or less qualified to lead?

"So what?" If he's a Muslim now OR WAS RAISED AS ONE, then that makes
Barak Hussein Obama Jr. a bald-faced liar who has lied several times on
record about his already-murky personal background.

As to why he feels the need to obfuscate and blatantly lie about his
deity of choice, you'd have to ask B. Hussein personally about that...

survivors of 9/11 or the families of victims of 9/11 if they fear Islam, I
think you will find that they do and not without good reason. We need a
president who will pursue and prosecute Islamic terrorists relentlessly, not
one who might be predisposed toward them because he is Islamic as well. But
this is just one red flag among many against the man. Other red flags are his
well publicized disdain for the average American, his unabashed hatred for
America, his association with Rev Wright and Louis Farrakan, neither of which
are loyal Americans (and are quick to acknowledge the fact), his associations
with organized crime, his association with US terrorists groups (the
Weathermen) his wife's hatred for America ("I've never been proud to be an
American") etc, etc., etc. As if his personal beliefs aren't red-flags
enough, the man has no experience with foreign policy, and has no experience
with finance or domestic issues. Anyone who votes for this man in SPITE of
the above needs to have his head examined. It's as if a large portion of this
population WANTS to sell their own country down the river just because Bush
is such a lousy president. It simply makes no rational sense. I wish we had
someone other than Obama or McCain to vote for as I don't see either one of
them as being particularly good choices. I wasn't going to vote at all and
told myself that I really didn't care. I don't like any of the candidates,
but the more I hear about Obama, the more I'm convinced that while McCain
wouldn't be a very good president, Obama would be a disaster and now I feel
that I MUST vote. Not For McCain, but AGAINST Obama. I'll do anything I can
to keep that traitor OUT of the White House. I hope more Americans wake-up

It might make life more difficult for him when dealing with the Muslim
world. Under strict interpretation, the rule is "once a Muslim, always a
Muslim" and conversion is an automatic death sentence. This might harm any
attempts to work out any sort of peace (or at least cessation of
hostilities) involving conservative Muslims (think Palestine).

So is it true?

No.

**

ABC News got a hold of the audio of Malik's interview with Israel Army
Radio, and Malik said nothing of the kind.

You can't hear the questions -- only Malik's answers (listen HERE) --
but whatever the interviewer asked about Obama's father's Muslim
heritage, or the Muslim minority in Kenya, Malik said, “I don’t think
that’s in any way going to be something to worry about. I myself am
not speaking for him. But we are here, we love people in general.
People love us. I myself love people who love me. You know, so, and I
think it’s mutual. I can’t go in terms of Israel and Kenya and
America, and so forth, you know, but based on what else I’ve heard him
say and what I know of him as an individual, I don’t think Israel
should worry too much, you know, about the connection. Because, I am a
Muslim myself, and I don’t think that my being a Muslim has got
anything to do with my brother being the President of the United
States.”
