mccain's fundamental problem is that the economy is the dominant issue,

voters.
now to be sure, obama hasn't articulated a coherent plan to address the
economy either, but he has done a good job of pretending to have one and
of getting that message out.
mccain is running out of time to do the same.

Well, you are correct on bringing-up Ayers and Wright, although I fail
to see the problem with that, and they have been brought-up before,
the rest (aka the most damning of your allegations)? No.
-Tom Enright
"In short, Obama's ties to Ayers and Wright suggest to me NOT that
Obama agrees with their views, but that he is the product of a
particular intellectual culture that finds the likes of Wright and
Ayers to be no more objectionable, and likely less so, than the likes
of Tom Coburn, or, perhaps, a Rush Limbaugh. Not only that, but he has
been in his particular intellectual bubble so long that he was unable
to recognize just how offensive the views of a Wright are to
mainstream America, or how his ties to Ayers would play with the
public, especially post-9/11."

Your problem is you think unless Palin *specifically* says "Obama is
not a real American like you or me. I am" that it is not being
implied.
Of course something can be implied without directly being said.
But hey, let them, they make themselves look REAL presidential and
serious like, if that's what they want to talk about.
Chanting "Ayers! Un-Patriotic!" still doesn't tell the independents or
undecideds why they should vote for McCain-Palin and what McCain and
Palin will do *for them* that will improve the direction of their
lives.

And yes, I know some hardcore left-wing types do similar stuff, but
that's the point. It's for the fringes and kooks. When actual high
level surrogates, and the ticket itself descend to such tactics its
pathetic desperation.
That would mean opening your eyes to double meanings in McCain/Palin's
rhetoric, which Enright and his ilk specifically don't want to do (or
are unable to). Believe me, the people are getting the message.

Fair enough.
You don't appear to be McCain's biggest fan anyway.
One byproduct of the two party system is you get some weird
alliances. Conservatives like you IMO are nothing at all like the
Palin-Christian Right type of conservatives.

Bullshit.
I asked for cites which means you can give the exact words that you

explain how some rather normal-sounding statements are really secret
accusations of communism or are actually racist.

I haven't seen McCain or Palin play on race, as Obama has, both sides
can be accused of cultivating "fear." Xenophobia? How does has that
played into the election?
You've made some very serious allegations, but can't back them up.

It's disappointing to see McCain sink to these tactics and it's
definitely going to get ugly fast. BUT....
What other choice does McCain have? The issues aren't winners for
him. His own war hero past isn't a winner for him (if it was, Bob
Dole would have beaten Clinton in 1996 to succeed GHWB's 2nd term and
John Kerry would have followed him as President).
No one can expect McCain and the Republicans to go down quietly to a
10-15 point defeat while conceding 60 Senate seats to the Democrats.
If all they can do to close the gap is throw mud, that's what they're
going to do. It's the job of Obama and the Democrats to win this, not
to watch McCain lose it. I think Obama just needs to keep his cool
and contrast that with McCain's semi-regular flip-outs.
What office is Todd running for?
Obama himself says he's not like all those former presidents on the

Yeah, that was terribly biased of me to bring up McCain and Obama's
actual voting record as it relates to both military veterans and
active
duty members. It must seem like I hate the military to folks like you
who
are so busy screaming anti-Democratic warchants that you can't
seem to figure out that McCain's record on this issue is pathetically
abysmal to anyone who is paying attention at all. Thankfully, many
veterans ARE paying attention, and McCain is getting his ass whipped
handily in that demographic because of it.
You mean that Republican-controlled Congress that voted for Gramm-
Leach-Bliley Act in the Senate with a 90-8-1 vote and in the House
362-57-15? Yeah, that sure was a partisan vote.

Yeah, you wonder what would have happened if McCain stood up against
the bill all along, a populous position that would have about an 80-20
public support. The problem is what would have happened if nothing
was actually done and the Stock Market tanked like it did anyways.
They would all say it was because McCain didn't support the rescue
package.
My gut feeling is that Reid/Pelosi intentionally spiked the first
attempt at the $700B bill by putting the ACORN subsidies, especially
given the way Pelosi poisoned the well with her speech right before
the vote. The longer this drags out, the better it is for Obama.
The little secret Obama cool aid drinkers like to think is that the
electorate moved to Obama in the past two weeks (by 10 points) because
they just all of a sudden embraced his platform top to bottom and

I actually kind of dig conservatives. *Actual* conservatives. I don't
always agree with them, but I like the persuasive way in which people
like Krauterhammer, Novak and George Will are able to argue their
points, and they display a very important charecteristic -
levelheadedness and an ability to think for themselves.
A far cry from the bigot-xenophobic and intolerant bible thumping
fundamentalist crowd for sure. This crowd seems to have hijacked the
GOP, and IMO is a big reason why they are being rejected. I mean look
at recent GOP rallies...."terrorist!"..."Kill him!". Shocking.

Won't work.
It's been seared into the electorate's brains, just like how Kerry
couldn't shake of his 'effette' image and the swiftboat thing in 2004.
On the areas where he's *different* from the administration, its
usually to the left of them, and he's not going to publically remind
people of that.
He's running an odd campaign....claiming Maverick (a reputation earned
by being relatively liberal on quite a few issues), while at the same
time wanting to appear like he's a hardcore conservative. I say
'appear' as I'm certain if he was President, he'd be a much more
liberal president than the base would be comfortable with. It
wouldn't shock me to see him compromise on judges even.

Yer "gut feeling" is at odds with reality. Might want to get it checked
(hint: the ACORN stuff was removed from the first bill the House voted
down... the one where "Pelosi poisoned the well with her speech right
before the vote.")
Pluseth, this bailout is horrible for anyone that's in the middle-class.
It's nothing more than an attempt to keep things afloat just long
enough for the folks that caused this crisis in the first place to get
liquid (not in US currency, tho!!!) before they let things crash out and
buy back in.
Cheers.
If by odd, you mean disasterous, then IAWT. The proof is in the
pudding on the Senate bill.
McCain saw the bill loaded up with pork spending (presumably, I mean,
*I* knew the bill had pork in it)
and he voted for it anyway.
That is extremely troubling to me. At least with Obama, I know he's
going to rape my wallet with a wink and a smile looking me in the
face.
Do I need McCain to give me the reacharound?
I heard he talked about having Al Gore in his Climate Crisis Council
or something? I mean, good grief.

As you've all heard more times than you'd probably care to think
about, I have
for the longest time believed there is little difference between the
parties.
However, the combination of the Bush Administration (which I voted
for)
and this election (and I've always been a huge McCain fan) is leading
me to
believe that there has been a fundamental shift in the Republican
party TOWARD THE NEGATIVE.
They've gone to winning simply for the sake of winning, rather than
winning to enact positive change. IMO. I had high hopes when Newt got

The GOP's abandonment of their "Contract With America" was a watershed
event. I lost whatever shred of respect I had for the GOP. Even Reagan
was a big spender in ways.
