The can't-miss sites that Atlanta is famous for aren't exactly family
establishments. 8-)
Seriously, though, late March would be a great time to go to Stone
Mountain. It's east of the city. You can't miss it. You can see
everything from up there.
During the day, you might want to take the CNN Studio tour at CNN
Center.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that Atlanta has a downtown night
life. The city shuts down at 6PM, and all nightlife moves up to
Buckhead or to the "satellite cities." (hey to Tom Wolfe.)
Any other ideas, guys?

Stone Mountain (but only when it gets warmer),
Cyclorama (takes about 20 minutes),
High Museum (haha),
Six Flags (but it's off season),
Braves game (also off season),
Falcons game (off season),
Hawks game (off season),
Ga Tech football (off season),
1996 Olympics (off).
Atlanta really isn't a place to visit unless you have a reason.

Abso-fkn-lutely!!! It's near the Federal Pen that burned a few years ago.
Rumor has it that Harold's inspired a breakout many years ago - seems the
aroma was too much to bear for a couple of cons. They were recaptured in
Harold's.

Yeah, we're going down there to visit friends that stoopidly moved away from

Amacalola Falls, where the Appalachian Trail begins, is beautiful. My
wife and I stayed at the lodge at the top of the falls once.
> The Georgia State Botanical Garden
Is that the one in Lawrenceville? There's also one in Atlanta itself
near Piedmont Park, but I think that's the Atlanta Botanic Garden. We
thought about having our wedding reception at the one in Lawrencevill,
but all that was available was outside, and outside in July was either
going to be hot or rainy.
While in Lawrenceville, you can also drive through town and see the
Lawrencville Historical Courthouse outside of which Larry Flynt was
shot. (And where we DID have our wedding reception, on what turned
out to be the only rain-free, reasonably cool weekend in July that
year.)
> Is there any local beer I should check out?
Nothing immediately springs to mind, but the Atlanta Biergarten in
Buckhead brews some pretty good stuff. Just so I can bring up my wife
(at least indirectly) in every paragraph, I'll mention that the last
time I went there I drank too much, came home really late, and had to
sleep on the couch.
Oh. And if you're really starving for some place you can spend money
and wait in line for a big honkin; advertisment, you can go downtown
to the "World of Coke." (My wife and I went there once.) The only
cool thing is at the end they have serve-yourself soda-fountains with
coke products, both foreign and domestic, and a plentiful supply of
sample cups. My advice to you: stay away from the Floral Fanta.

I used to live across the street from Juniors (Smith 420) before it
got torn down to build the GSU dorms. Good breakfast. And lunch.
I only had to call the cops from my dorm room to report a crime twice

8) Grab some Kreullers at the local Krispy Kream.

10) Can you say "CNN tour" or "Cartoon Network tour"?
there's really nothing else worth seeing.
Places not to go...
1) Athens
2) High Museum of Art
3) Atlanta Botanical Gardens
4) Anywhere around "Turner Stadium"
5) Gwinnett Place Mall

Ugh...dunno about Laughing Skull, but Red Brick needs to stay a part of

Anyone ever see the movie Sherman's March by Ross McElwee? Starts out as
a documentary about the march, he runs out of money, and the rest of it is
about his interaction with various women as he continues following that
bastud She*man's march from savannah up through South Carolina. There's a
scene that was shot in my front yard...the the monument to Sumter, SC
Women's Confederate Dead. Actually, it's across the street, but I don't
have a yard, either. :-)

I went to Atlanta after the bombing in Centennial Park. I wanted to just
stop at the CNN studios, rather than spend some more time in the airport. So
I momentarily stop while driving around the CNN studios, pretty close to
ground zero. What a fkn conniption fit!! I had 1,324 cops pointing .357s at
my head ordering me to move. I was hoping to get arrested, and then sue for
damages a'la Mr. Security Guard. Be careful how youse park their.

You need to go to some classier joints. I used to know some, but the
laws have changed in Houston.

Actually, the last place I tried it was at The Colorado in about 1994.
I haven't tried it since. For me those places are like casinos. I take
a predetermnined amount of money in. When I'm out of money, I stop.

Junior's is now located on the Tech campus. funny thing that, he
dropped out or was kicked out and made a virtual fortune selling food
to hungry college students. ate there most every day when i was
there. some great food, and he was such a thing at tech, that they
let him move his establishment on campus. kinda crowded during the
day though.

DUDE, i didn't think of that! You bet, that is the place to be in
march, and Savannah RUTS Boston on St. P's day. Well, not really, but
its the second biggest SP Day party town in the states. Visit Kevin
Barry's and swill some guinness!

Man, I was at the march atlanta race last year and it sucked. it
rained all weekend and a cold front came through. it was too cold for
me to drink my cold beer. hot chocolate was the big seller. but if
you are from michigan, then something like that won't bother you.

No dice on that one. Blacks protested it was racist. I had heard
that their case won, but don;t remember. But if it is still
happening, it's a real treat, I highly recommend it.

Saw the original coke patent on display there once. Guards were
everywhere.

I second that, phoenix is a nice brewpub, but hard to find. its
scrunched way back in a strip mall like place. i also remember there
is a brewpub steakhouse with a texan theme on highway 92 between
woodstock and alpharetta. its not texas cattle company. thats a nice
brewpub as well. also try the beergarten and john harvards (a chain).
yeah. the 11am - 12 pm lunch hour is the worse. the line sometimes spill
over to outside the place.

If you go, keep your windows rolled up, or they'll try to throw a
degree in your car, when you drive through.

I know. They did that the last year I was there. (I got out with my

Kickassedness of Fat Matt's is acknowledged, at least... I've been
there and it's good food and live music, too...
