DC: things not to miss?

I may have asked this a few months ago when ya'all told me to come
during Thanksgiving week to avoid the crowds my autistic daughter
dreads so much. Excellent call by the way...zero problems with crowds
so far.



Memorials we've seen or have plans:

Lincoln
Jefferson(my favorite)
Wash.
Viet Nam
Korea
FDR(a pleasant surprise)
WWII

Also:

White house tour
Capitol tour
Library of Congress tour
Pentagon tour + Arlington NC
National Cathredral tour(we might miss this one)
Visit to Supreme Court
Kennedy Center? (is this one worth it?)




As far as the museums, which do you recommend one not miss (family
with three kids):

Smithsonian?
Air and Space?
American History?
Natural History?
Art gallery?(not really my cup of tea)
Ford Theatre area?
Spy museum?
Crime and Punishment museum?



Also, is it frowned upon to piss on the steps of the EPA and the IRS
buildings?

Probably don't have time/child patience for a LOT of time in all of
them...so either we do a little time and hit more things or take some
time in some of the museums and miss the others. Tours are set for
specific times and we plan on making about all of them.


I've found the city to be clean and very friendly. We are staying
about eight blocks NW of the White House, so, other than the open top
bus tour, we've been walking most places so far...will catch the bus
to the Capitol tomorrow. Have seen more homeless than maybe I
expected...or at least they are more blatant than maybe I
expected(sleeping bags on the sidewalk grates, special elastic tarps
that 'seal' them into their park bench for the night).

With kids, do the Natural History museum. Not all that large, very
accessible and some nice exhibits. Otherwise, you've got a nice list
going

Prolly want to avoid the Georgetown area - very crowded and expensive

A couple of other things that weren't on your list but are very nice--
National Zoo and the Holocaust Museum. My youngest were 9 and 11 when
we did the Holocaust-- I was concerned that they would freak out but
the presentation was great and the kids really found it powerful and
interesting.

We did all the memorials listed above (I am a Vietnam Vet) and the
Holocaust museum in one day.

I was pretty drained after that.

Arlington was pretty special and I learned I qualify for inurnment..

Skip this one. Its ok, but there are better choices.

probably 8/10 years old at the time).
