Found this new blog site that has a couple of former ESPN employees
sharing stories about their time at the network....It's a good read.

the pretentious of espn is just unreal.........the anchors are what
they are- anchors. They aren't sports journalists. Not that there is
anything wrong with that, but let's just call it like it is. The
former athlete as analyst talent ranges from ok(joe morgan, greg
anthony, orel hershiser) to bad(that latino guy on baseball tonight who
nobody seems to know), to truly horrific(salsbury, hoge).

The non-athlete "journalists" are a mixed bag....some are good but not
made for TV for asthetic reasons(ie john clayton) and come across much
better on the radio without having to look at them.

The woody page/jay mariotti/skip bayless aroudn the horn crowd are
almost laughing at themselves they are so inept. Page and bayless in
particular......one morning I slept in late and was watching espn2 as I
was dressing. For those of you who don't know, from like 10-1 everyday
espn2 does pretty much nothing except have this bland anchor like guy,
woody page, and skip bayless sit around a table and discuss "sports".
Woody(or hell maybe it was skip, does it matter), said that it would be
ok to expand the nfl playoffs from 6 teams to 8 teams because it still
wouldn't be nearly as bad as sports like the nba where half the league
makes the playoffs.........then the anchor-type guy says "oh wait
woody, that would be 16 teams since there are two conferences, and I
think if my math is right that would be exactly 50%"......and then
woody says "oh, well yeah, but my point still stands"......

Then you have another group of anchors/radio hosts/non-athlete
commentators(Mike greenberg, dan patrick, etc) who don't know much
about anything and take themselves and their arguments way too
seriously.........

The one dude I do sorta like on espn radio(he does a little tv
occasionally) is the college basketball analyst(not bilas) who's a
younger sort of guy and played at Oklahoma State.........on his radio
show he'll cover all sports though. He makes mistakes here and there,
but he seems to have a better grasp of everything than most everyone
else at the network....what's his name?

Yeah, "Dan Bretta" <nud...@yahoo.com>, well... that's just like...
your opinion man.

This kind of thing and nekkid chyks are the ONLY redeeming factors of
the horrendously horrible "Howard Stern Show".

There's nothing about ESPN thats a "good read" unless they are going to
completely do away with the crap they do now and take a stab at real
sports journalism. The are so full of themselves since they jumped the
shark all those many years ago.

Amen. I like their sports-specific shows like Gameday and Baseball
Tonight (not their NFL show though), but SportsCenter has just become a
steaming pile. When I want to catch scores in the AM I turn on ESPN
News.

And their radio shows are just as bad. Mike & Mike and Dan Patrick are
just full of the same sort of shit. I don't mind Cowherd all that much
but that's because he has yet to be fully absorbed into the collective.

yep, that's it. Unfortunately I was watching him guest host that
latenight show stephenAsmith usually hosts, and he totally got the
whole auburn cadillac williams thing wrong.....so even he is prone to
miss the boat sometimes at espn......
