why Alabama still needs to respect and fear LSU later this year....

discussing the game with some fellow tide fans this morning, and their impression was that after watching the LSU-Auburn game that LSU won't beat us and thus nobody can beat us this year.

As much as I would like to believe that, LSU *can* beat Bama later this year.

Here's why:

1) it's in BR. I can't stress how important this will be for a first year unproven qb. Playing in a bigtime sec environment clearly spooked him and it showed in his play. It would be much worse in Ttown.
2) Mettenberger will have 4-5 games between then to improve.
3) The defense of LSU certainly didnt show any weaknesses. If LSU is going to beat us, they're going to need a great defensive performance. And seeing as how Auburn couldnt do anything all night(it seemed like 1/3 plays was going for negative yardage), that is still a possibility. Bama may have the best offense in the country, but against that defense at night in BR....it's still tough.
4) it's still a very similar team to the one that did beat us 9-6 a year ago. Yes, Claiborne and honey badger are no longer there, but 1st round types like montgomery, mingo, and Reid are.
5) we can't make too much of one road game. Championship teams usually have that type of gritty road win....Alabama had one in Knoxville a few years ago on their way to a national title. College teams dont always play the same from game to game within the season....heck just look at last year. OT in game 1 and then a real beatdown in game 2. If that is how LSU plays against us this year they won't win, but we should expect them to play better.

LSU is still the one team in the country that can beat bama.

This is not an Alabama fan site. If you want a serious discussion of all of the "points" you bring up, you can go to a plethora of those type of sites -- Scout, Rivals, 24/7. You name it.

Essentially, you're the "Sword of Troy" for Alabama.

it's a college football discussion forum, and LSU-Bama is the most anticipated game of the year.

The idea that one can't expect to discuss/preview(even well in advance since the matchup clearly looms) the most anticipated college football game of the year in a college football forum is pretty absurd.

That was a LONG-winded post. I certainly didn't read it all. Once I figured out that it was your typical fellating all things Tide type of post, I stopped and reminded you that this is RSFC. Post all you want about Alabama, but keep it short and to the point, because there are only 3-4 of your in this chatrum who really give a rat's ass.

Besides, the game is slated for NOVEMBER 3rd. It's still SEPTEMBER. In other words, there's still 6 more weeks of college football between now and then. These next 6 weeks count, too, for the rest of us. Looking forward that far in advance has an underlying message that nothing else matters this season except for the "big showdown" on November 3rd.

There's lots of football to be played between now and then.

you are really making a stupid point here. Obviously, rsfcers choose to read whatever they want. They didn't need you to remind people what is worthy of reading.

additionally, it was hardly a long-winded post. it hit 4 major basic points about the matchup in broad terms. It's not like it was a position by position breakdown. (but even if it was so what? This is a COLLEGE FOOTBALL NEWSGROUP and it is the most significant COLLEGE FOOTBALL game of the year)

of course, but I'd imagine that fans of other teams out there('the rest of us') have some interest in knowing who they will play in the bcs title game.....As a bama fan, Im interested in seeing how the various non-sec top teams are stacking up to see who it looks like we may face in a national title game.

Irony.

I'm not reminding anyone of what is worthy to read. I'm reminding YOU of what is worthing to post. Big difference. And if your head wasn't so far up your ass, you would realize this, too.

It's arguable whether it's a good matchup, or not. There's still a lot of jockeying to go for a more concrete top-5 than what we have now.

same difference.....no rsfcer needs to go around and tell others what COLLEGE FOOTBALL topics are worthy of being posted in a COLLEGE FOOTBALL newsgroup.

well that's debatable, but the fact remains that if Alabama wins all their games they will be in the national title game. And looking at Alabama's schedule it's very obvious LSU(in BR) is the most difficult game by far.

Seeing those two things, this game is very critical to the national picture. The idea that there is a more critical game to be played this year than LSU-Alabama is ludicrous. Oregon-USC would have been second had USC...well....been better.

I'd say that is not much evidence on which to base that conclusion.
LSU did not play well in that game - yet they won. "Yet they won" is
the bottom line.

Bama may not be beaten but Bama can be beaten. We need to think "don't
let UL-M happen again" more than "nobody can beat us". You rarely hear
the "unbeatable" thing from knowledgeable football people.

I trust real football people are preparing for Ole Miss this week, not
LSU.

IFYPFY. Of course, the problem is that, unless they shove Florida State down our throats, we probably are doing LSU-Bama again in January anyway.

South Carolina has better chances than LSU. In fact, USC will rip
LSU a new one on their home field.

seriously doubt it....LSU will be double digit faves in that game.

Furthermore, if Alabama does end up playing South Carolina(a big if), then that will be at a neutral site....Alabama has to play LSU at a very non-neutral site, which makes the LSU game that much tougher compared to any sort of potential SECCG matchup with South Carolina.

SOme years ago I was at our house in AL and went to the LSU game. Bama
was favored and LSU won. Next year at Red Stick Bama won. For several
years the home team lost and it was mentioned each year.

I think the only game I attended there was when Y. A. Tittle was QB.

You do realize both teams have a few wins to go

a *may* be important game, right?

And here you are, making the exact same argument

Alabama is too good to lose to any of the teams on their schedule before LSU. LSU has the potential to lose a game, most likely in gainsville, but that would still make it the most important game of the year because it is the only game Alabama can lose.....

They way Zach Hamburgler seems inconsistant I wouldn't be shocked to
see LSU lose to Florida, South Carolina and possibly Texas A&M before
they play Bama. This week LSU has the powerhouse Townson, whomever

If you travel I-65 South from Bowling Green in the fall it's amazing
how many tags from foreign states you see going South to watch the
real football teams play. Sometime after January they return to their
