From my days as a drummer in a cover band in college, these songs wore
on me to the point that if I ever thought about them again, it would
be too soon. Walk, F*cking Hostile, A New Level. Enough, is enough.
I sweat just thinking about them.

That's part of it. Also the grave seriousness of so much
of it, as though the guys singing/playing/listening really
are badasses because they're singing/playing/listening to
metal, man.

I got "Rock in Rio" (Iron Maiden) and "That One Night - Live in Buenos

I was amazed by how good Maiden sounds - just as good as ever. I was

Let's just say, metal 'evolved' late 80s. It became abhorant with the
advent of Metallica and Megadeath and Anthrax who signaled the
beginning of teh suck.

If rock begat metal, and metal begat crap metal, you are correct.
Metal became quite teh suck after a short amount of evolution IMO.

Pretty catchy, but DL gets deducted points for haunting my memory
with Photograph. :)

How about Judas Priest - Livin' After Midnight

That simple, classic drum intro (who couldn't "Name That Tune" in
5 notes or less?) and then it gets after it pretty good.

I like animal - and it's borderline metal. It's more on the borderline
between rock and hard rock - pre-metal, if you will.

Rust In Peace is pop metal? Even though it is WAY harder and heavier than

Heavy metal *award*. No 's'. And it was highly controversial,
unlike Def Leppard, which ought to be a clue of some sort.

For a pendant, you sure can fuck up big time.

> They absolutely aren't "almost universally considered heavy metal".

Firmly grasping one obvious fact seems to prevent you from
grasping another. Even Jethro Tull recognizes it isn't a heavy
metal band -- "Well, we do sometimes play our mandolins
very loudly."

Def Leppard is a heavy metal band, and you will never admit
you're wrong about this.
