Great tournament this year, thanks to the TDs and everyone else who
was there! Does anyone have results from Sunday or photos from the
weekend in general?

Sunday results:

A pool finals:
Yank my Doodle (MI) over Crappy Team for Jerks (Penn State/Hooray
alums), in a rematch of a Saturday game (which CTfJ won,
interestingly)

semis were
YMD over a coed club team, can't remember which
CTfJ over Tea and Strumpets, which interestingly enough was also
partially made up of Penn State alums (but older)

B pool finals:
Hibachi 3000 (NYU alums) over Pickle Juice (DC)

Yank My Doodle also lost to Younguns in 2006 during a scramble play
game, and then beat Younguns in the finals...similar to this year. In
fact, Yank has never gone undefeated to a championship.

This is Yank My Doodle's 4th championship in 5 years, and they have
never missed finals in that span.

Check www.pittsburgh-ultimate.org/tournaments/mars in the next few
days for full results.

What was up with the sketchy local "gangsta" teenagers at the Saturday
night party and in the parking lot?

And was that related to the guy who got arrested in the parking lot
that night?

Said guy was arrested for throwing a rock through my teammate's car
window Saturday night. Sorry Georgia :(

Figured it would be best to wait for this to get brought up before
someone just went and posted it...and then people posted something
completely incorrect so someone has to set things straight.

Friday night:

Apparently some high school kids are at the party and I believe are
unaffiliated with the tournament itself. Said arrested player
apparently pisses these high school kids off without really
intentionally doing anything aside from kind of being a hardass.

Saturday night:

The high school kids who said player pissed off show back up looking
to find him and kick his ass claiming they had a gun. No gun was ever
seen but a combination of the tournament director, Pitt players,
another Delmarvelous player and myself run interference, get the kid
who eventually got arrested to get the hell out of dodge, and convince
the band of hoodlums to disperse and leave the hippy frisbee kids
alone (apparently they were a little uncomfortable with all the dudes
with shirts off). These same thugs are the guys who put the rock
through the players window without any real understandable motive.

The TD called the police in hope of maintaining the safety of all the
players involved. The police wanted to talk to the kid the thugs were
there to beat up. When the Delmarvelous player came out to speak with
the cops he was generally cooperative but was frustrated by the cops
saying that because he was under aged and clearly drunk (like...really
drunk) they would have to give him a citation because they can't
ignore that fact. At this point the fairly drunk player got very
frustrated that he felt like the victim in the situation which is an
understandable feeling but the cops were only going to give him a
citation. However at this point the alcohol and his temper got the
better of him and he said some things that he knows he shouldn't have
said and pissed off the one cop who was especially ticked off at the
situation and some of the players unwillingness to cooperate (handing
them a student ID rather than his driver's license and then not
understanding why the cop was annoyed by that among other things).

In the end, one of the cops essentially came up to those of us who
were trying to help the kid who got arrested and tried to essentially
apologize for having to arrest him to which everyone who had witnessed
the events and even the arrested player when later told of what he
said, agreed that it was largely his fault for getting arrested and
not keeping his mouth shut. The arrested player then spent the night
in jail, got two citations, and went on his way on Sunday afternoon
(note it was afternoon because he slept until like 1pm because the
cops have a "policy" that they won't wake people up)

It was a really, really crappy situation. It was handled SUPERBLY by
the TD and the Pitt Ultimate players running the tournament. It was
incredibly unfortunate that a player ended up getting arrested but in
the end no one got beat up, shot, etc. and all the players were kept
safe. Unfortunately it definitely put a bit of a downer on the last
night of partying and I know Vatz was a bit at his wits end that
night.

In the end another very well run Mars with one really shitty
circumstance that sucked for a few people.

Thanks again to Vatz and Pitt Ultimate

at one point, I saw 4 of the high school kids going around the
pavilion looking awkwardly suspicious, and one Joe Cuneo excitedly
saying something to them. Slightly concerned due to the copious
flowing beer, I went over to ask Joe what he had said (hoping it
wasn't something that would incite a riot), and he told me he was just
telling them that if they came in the pavilion, they had to take their
shirts off (a policy that night). Priceless.

Also, Mankind left out that Ana Brown's boyfriend was spotted hooking
up with several teams. Sorry, Ana.

Well, I am "said guy," and like Tim said, I can't take credit for the
window breaking. However, I am real sorry that happened. And thanks
Tim for being the person who explains the correct version of the
story. Reading your description certainly helped me recall a few of
the fuzzy parts of the night.

Also, I do play for Udel and was playing with Delmarvelous this past
weekend, so I really hope those two teams don't get any kind of bad
reputation for the unfortunate situation. I was just a bit too drunk
and said the wrong thing to the wrong officer..

Now, onto more serious matters.. I usually take my responsibility for
my actions and realize when I'm wrong. However, this whole situation
was not my fault. There is a totally legitimate explanation for
this: I completely blame everyone who made me save a million of those
soldiers!!!! Those plastic bastards ruined my night! Anyone who got
peer pressured into saving one of those plastic soldiers knows what
I'm talking about. So if I could get a purple heart or something to
prove to my mom I'm not a crazy alcoholic, I would much appreciate it.

Now that this situation is cleared up and out there, we can focus on
the much more exciting and enjoyable parts of MARS. Thanks again to
Vatz and Pitt Ultimate(and any other people that told me to shut my
mouth when I was talking to the cops) for hosting a great tournament
and handling a sticky situation very well. Awesome tournament,
awesome time, and I'll see everyone next year. And by that time I'll
be 21, and thus just as drunk.

Sean Keegan

P.S. I lost two things this weekend, some pride and a red trucker hat
that says "Evacuation Team" on the front. If anyone finds either,
please gimme an email: seanryankeegan AT gmail DOT com.

So did anything happen to the local kids who smashed the car window?
Seems like they should have gotten something from the cops.

I'm bringing my 9 next year.

Just wanted to apologize for getting the facts wrong and running my
big mouth... Sean, I'm so sorry about what you had to go through.
Tim, thanks for setting the record straight--sorry to have forced you
into it...?

It sounds like I lucked out compared to the person whose car window
was broken - and I'm truly sorry to hear about that - but I too was
the victim of stupid, probably alcohol-induced car vandalism at Mars
last weekend. Somebody swiped a ribbon magnet off the trunk of my car.
It was black and bright blue, with a hurricane symbol in the middle
and text reading: "Katrina Relief, Please Give."

If the magnet somehow found its way from my car to yours, I'd really
like to have it back.

Thanks,
Rachel

Wouldn't you be giving to Katrina Relief if you just went and bought
another one?

Oh, the irony...

The irony is that I got the magnet in Mississippi last summer, when I

I found this magnet at the campsites while I was packing up Sunday
afternoon. I put it in the lost and found box; you should contact the
