have gone out to team captains. If your team doesn't get one (check with
your fellow captains first), send email to upa...@upa.org.

The All-Region teams will be announced in the run-up to Nationals.

Now that the ballots are out who does everyone think will make the
All-Region teams? Especially in the Central Region??

All players are allowed to vote for All-Region teams, correct? Not
just captains, or one ballot per team?

My Central All-Region Team:

Tyler Spindler-Wisconsin
Alex Masulis-Carleton
Chase-Carleton
Ross Cram-St. Olaf
Elijah Edwards-Iowa
Mike Bevers-Stevens Point
?????-haven't got a seventh yet, could be Hecotr or Tyson from the
Hodags, could be Francis from Iowa, could be Todd or Winey from St.
Cloud, could be Lenny from Whitewater, someone convince me....

We didn't get to play Steven's Point, so I can't comment on Bevers. Elijah
is a very good player, but he got worked over by our big guy, Ben Toht,
culminating in Elijah screaming "i'm just not gonna get over him" at his
teammates after Toht skied him for the upteenth time at regionals. i'd also
give Todd from St. Cloud a spot... we've had some confrontations with him,
but i have much respect for him. final spot is a tossup between Hector or
Tyson from the Hodags, Jimmy Chu of CUT, Elijah, maybe Mike Bevers. I
haven't seen most of those guys enough to make an educated decision.

my all-region team: Alex Masulis (CUT '03), Chase Sparling-Beckley (CUT
'04), Jimmy Chu (CUT '04), Tyler Spindler (Madison '03), Ross Cram (Olaf
'03), Ben Toht (Olaf '03), Todd Owens (Cloud '03).

who are the top freshmen in the region? i can't think of one outstanding
player. Iowa has one solid frosh, but he was nothing to be amazed at.

Zac Shackner- UW-Whitewater, hails from a strong Nicolet H.s.
Intramural program, but never played any competitive h.s. ultimate
before coming to UW-Whitewater. He made a huge impact on continuing
the success of uww after numerous transfers, injuries, and dropouts!
Please consider him as he is a true competitor with a strong lover for
the game.

for more info on shack daddy check him out at www.subpar.20fr.com

peace and ultimate
-my condolences go out to BYU!

i wouldn't call them outstanding, like i would a spindler or nord, but
watch for seth borsma as solid reciever and D-man. Kent bollfrass's
dazeling dance moves(GOP knows) is not all he hides in his bag of
skills. could be a excellent handler with accurate throws and a cool,
collected head. andy bossert could also develope into something
spectacular if his dedication builds. extremely quick with hops,
hands and hucks.
all are good players now, only to get better. watch the point
bossert, borsma, bollfrass trio in years to come.

Based entirely on regionals games:

Tyler Spindler-Hodags
Phil B.-CUT.
Ross Cram-Olaf
Todd Owens-St. Cloud
Tyson-Hodags
Chase-CUT
Mike Francis-Iowa

Not a bad crop of Iowa City West High school 99 alums: Mike Francis
(in addition to about half the Iowa team), Ross Cram, and Bart Watson
(Stanford). That's a public school without an ultimate program.

There are a few clear choices for the Central All-Region team.
1. Alex Masulis
2. Chase Sparling-Beckley
3. Tyler Spindler

After that it gets a little dicey. Phil Burkhardt from CUT is the
best handler in the region, in my estimation. Other outstanding
handlers are:

1. Jimmy Chu (CUT)
2. Tyson ??? (Madison)
3. Ross Cram (Olaf)
4. Garrett Westlake (CUT)
5. Iowa's main guy
6. Mike Bevers (SP)

As for cutters, the standouts in my mind are
1. Ben Toht (Olaf)
2. ????? Paradise (Madison)
3. Owens (Cloud)
4. Edwards (Iowa)
5. Damian Bickett (GoP, obviously I am biased)

I believe each team gets one ballot. Other than the three mentioned
above, I have no idea who GoP will vote for except,

Freshman of the year: Chris Rupp from CUT. Rupp started at defensive
handler and got significant PT in the Madison game. Obviously he did
not standout, being that CUT has so many ridiculous guys. But he
completed a fair amount of passes and did not turn the disc over. He
has an unparalleled love for the game, playing for both GoP and CUT in
the winter in order to keep in shape. I cannot think of another
Freshman who has made as significant a contribution to a winning team.
For better or worse this may be the only hype you hear about Rupp as
I believe CUT has a similar policy for Frosh of the Year as it does
for Callahan.

Both Seth and Kent from Point have the potential to be ridiculous.
Seth displayed more than once this year that no one can match him step
for step throughout the course of a game. A great example was his
upteenth endzone grabs at Midwesterns over seasoned vets from Oregon
St. and Subzero. Kent will be one of the best handlers in the region
within 2 years. Patience and smooth tosses make him a definite
standout.
A little bit of Olaf sectional favoritism on that all-region team. of
course I'm NOT taking anything away from those great players.

3.Kelley (AZ)
4.Brett Kolonek (CSU)
5.J.V. (CU)
6.Honda (UCSD)
7.Bizzaro (CU)

Sorry for the colorado biest, but i have seen them more than

Don't worry, once some of the teams in your section (besides the
Hodags) start playing on Sunday (only Madison 2 years straight) at
regionals, the other sections will start voting for your guys.

My all-region votes go to:
Phil Burkhardt(sp)-CUT: arguably the best handler in the region. Lead
CUTs offense in a game where offense was king (regional finals).
Andrew Brown-Wisconsin: If Phil is the top handler, then Andrew is a
very close second.
Tyler Spindler-Wisconsin: Will jump over you then huck it deep if
need be, good D. Note:Had a jersey at Badger state last year with the
name, TryToSkyMe. Thats bad ass
Alex Masulis-CUT: just plain sick
Andy Wineburg-St. Cloud: Very tough D, can do it all.
Elijah Edwards-Iowa: Great all around player and nice guy. Only game
I saw him this spring was the gametogo against wisconsin and Iowa's
entire team was dead tired. Did get to see him at regionals and
nationals last year and he is solid.
Chase-CUT: Was rediculous at regional finals, helped lead his team to
semis at nationals last year.

Hector and Todd Owens are very tough to leave off this list. Hector
did help lead his teams to the finals of nationals last year and
played huge this spring. Todd Owens' game is solid overall which is
tough to deny.

Freshman vote: Kent Bollfrass-Stevens Point: Lanky mofo who can
already do it all. Great throws, tough D, huge willingness to learn,
overall nice guy, and party like a rock star. If you don't know who
he is, and I'm sure you don't. Just look to the dancefloor. He will
be the one, barechested, with your entire ladies team. Yeah thats
right.

understandable. i was waiting for someone to hit up the southwest,
because all i really know is san diego and what i saw at SW regionals.
i agree with all your seven as well. except for JV. he's a monkey.
anyone that pale who takes his shirt off that much is exempt.
otherwise, fine choices.
from ucsd i would add Kubiak, BOFA, or Hoowa to this list. There are
a couple others but then my list starts getting to long. All region
worthy for sure.

Possible consdierations:

CUT: Philip, Chase, Alex, & Jimmy. The anchors to the O and were
involved in both upwind scores. Although Chase loses points because
he faked an injury just so he could make a courageous comeback late in
the game. Also worth mentioning, AJ, Scott, Jay, & Garret

Madison: Tyler & Matt would be my 2 votes. Money downfield all day,
scored most of the goals. Paradise, Andrew, & Tyson moved the disc
well most of the finals and in all the other games. Hector, he is
just too stylish to be playing ultimate. Also, he received 3 team
misconducts throughout the tournament.

Iowa: Elijah definitely. Francis and Dan played solid all weekend long
as well. Matt Klemm was a hell of an observer.

St. Olaf: Ross & Ben were the main 2 guys all weekend. Without those
2, they score half as many. Dave & Matt played well

St. Cloud: The usual suspects of Winey, TO, and Naz deserve mention.
I thought Raeker was big for them. They had some freestyler on the
sideline all weekend. They should teach him how to play ultimate

Minnesota: Le Bruss & Pat

Wisconsin B: Fossum, possible the only guy to compete with Hector for
style points.

Iowa St.: Don't know his name, but the skinny dude played really
well.

Sorry, did not see much of other games. At least, did not see anyone
stick out in those games.

Freshman: There were no guy who made me say "Wow, he is 18!" Chris
from CUT was pretty solid, played some, but not a ton. The Olaf
freshman, Mark, is really fast and pretty solid. Probably the most
important freshman out there (At least to his team).

He would get my vote if he still had that pedophile-style stache goin
like he did during Midwesterns. Comon La Malad, grow it for

My advice, no stache. I'm a big fan of the corn rows though. They
compliment your freesyle rappin' persona nicely.

uhhh... Olaf didn't have any freshmen playing at regionals. we did have
3 videotaping, eating mass quantities of peeps, fetching stuff, and holding
our flag, and while those services were extremely valuable, they were not
quite worthy of freshman of the year. Mark is a good player, but he is a
senior in his second year of eligibility and not up for the award. for the
record, Craig on Olaf is the best player i know who still plays like a
freshman.

Dude, take away the style and take away the man. Plus, two of those three
misconduct fouls were because I kept hitting on your fiance. The third was
because she liked it.
