Well, sectionals is over now and we've got 3 weeks till regionals. So
I'm curious to know what other teams have players to watch.

I've heard Oberlin's got a good rookie.
I know MSU has at least 3 sweet players.
Zalisk from Northwestern is obviously pretty talented. Who else
though?

Purdue's got a handful.

Nate Hribar #00: Awesome handler. Super fast, great throws, been
injured the since Terminus, but he'll be playing regionals.

Matt Reed (Diggler) #2: Possibly our best deep, he's fast, he's got
great throws and he's open all the time. Watch out for this guy,
cause he's the shit.

Mike D #10: One of the most well rounded players in the region, gets
open on anyone at any time, good throws, sweet layouts, oh and he's
got a 37 inch vertical. Again, looks out for this guy he's good.

I know its lame to talk up your own team, but regionals is 3 weeks
away and I wanna people to get pumped.

Luscious will be making his spring season debut at Great Lakes Regionals.
(minus limited play at Terminus where he was a handler and not the usual
receiver) He's definitely one to watch when he's healthy.

Well, anyone who's seen Chicago play knows the players to watch. Zahlen
and Xtehn Titcomb, brothers, freestyle partners, party-throwers and
spectacular ultimate players. You'll know they're burning you when
someone on your sideline yells "Stop letting them do that!", as people did
this weekend at sectionals. Zahlen, the one with dark hair, has the best
throws I've seen this year, and isn't afraid to sky your tallest player.
Xtehn brings his dreadlocks, his D, and his crazy roller pull to every
game.

If you played them, you know who they are. If you haven't, watch out.
And check out their freestyling on the sidelines (even their 9 year old
sister can do more tricks with her eyes closed than you knew existed).

Three players from MSU you're thinking of are probably Aaron, Luscious, and
Israel.

Aaron probably has the best throws in the region.
Luscious has awesome field sense and real sick d.
Israel has definately been on a tear lately... awesome break throws...
puttin it deep, lay out d's...

Definately three guys to watch. All distinctly different too, which is real
helpful.

Yeah, we do have that. He's 6'5". He catches things. And we also have
fourth year Mike Hamm (6'4") #24, who has been both absent and excellent
this semester. Though he missed all of spring break (and didn't play in
last year's Series), he is a machine of offense and defense. I love
watching tall guys lay out ... that extension is ridiculous. He will beat
your in cut for the D and take you deep for the score. Just don't talk to
him ... he'll say something creepy. Though it might not set in for a while,
later that day you'll think "fuck ... that guy is weird."

Plus "Hamm and Degs" ... that's so money.

Go watch that video...

Ohio State's got some players ... Spanky would really improve pretty much

I may be a Cub's fan, but I dont know much about midwest ultimate.
But my guess is nobody will have more speed left late sunday at
regionals than Dan Benjamin. The UofC brothers know who Im talking
about, they'll be watching for him. I saw the kid play out in Vermont
once, he had it together. Plus, the Middlebury women couldn't stop
talking about him, which is how I know who's a player.

I know that most of you haven't seen players from the Knox College
Team but here are a couple players you need to look for.

Alex Baker - Soph. Handler extrordinare. He's got all the throws. An
incredible gun

Dan Tyx - Super Dan - Sr. This guy never tires. Plays amazing
defense. He will go all day long, and keep coming back for more.

Be sure to stop by and see the team as they play. You'll be
pleasantly surprised.

Dan sure is super. I'll second the comment about amazing defense.
But one point of contention. I definitely saw him get tired one time,
though he was probably just faking it to make the rest of us feel
better about ourselves.

to guard. they have quite a few solid players this year. regionals

That is Jon Goupell, his brother, Matt was at Michigan State last
year, I believe. From what I've seen, Jon is a great player, he runs
all the time.

I heard a *rumor* that Hope wasn't sending everyone to Regionals

The rumor is true. One senior player has a wedding on the saturday of
regionals, w/a couple of other senior players in the wedding party. We
will be w/o a couple of seniors as well as a player who is stuck in
jail(not a joke). Also, we'll be missing these seniors plus our
captain for sunday, which is their commencement date. So yea....we'll
be playing w/ our 2004 lineup at regionals for the most part. But i

i'll give it a go.

ILLINOIS:
-15 dudes that all play the same. this team will beat you and leave
you wondering how they did it. no real stars. you gotta stop them
all.
-uhh...i know their coach's name is xia xi.

MSU:
-aaron. great throws and gets open easily. a little weaker this year
without his counterpart (matt groupell), but still one of the main
supports MSU's offense stands on.
-luscious. outstanding long. great defense and offense. solid
athlete. tough to play against.

OSU:
-willis. he's back. he's nearly impossible to guard and he will d
anything you throw his way.
-toro. developed as an outstanding handler. good long throws and
never tires.
-goon. great long cutter. mostly gets open under, but he'll beat you
deep if you give it to him. solid on d, too.

NORTHWESTERN:
-chuck. big guy with outstanding throws. he doesn't cut much, but
when he does, he gets open. he and zalisk will huck it all weekend.
-zalisk. aka, callahan. eh, he's ok.
-wade. seemingly a long converted to a handler, he gets open pretty
easily. great hands and good throws.

MICHIGAN:
-brix. without hales and rook, brix makes michigan ultimate work.
great throws and cuts. lots of give and gos.
-other handler. possibly injured for a few games earlier in the
season? he and brix act as a pair while on the field, always knowing
where the other one is.
-tall handler. good throws, but some poor decisions. could be a
serious threat if he tried harder.

HOPE COLLEGE:
-jon groupell. he'll get open on you and then throw the score without
you even knowing it. he's quick and plays great d, too.

INDIANA:
-nate. he'll break you forehand, or he'll break you backhand. he
doesn't care. he's a quick handler and will catch anything you throw
near him. great bids on defense.
-nick. solid handler with good decisions. very calm and collected.
good throws and good hands. if only they had a better deep game,
indiana would be an outstanding team. where's thor?

OBERLIN:
-haven't seen them yet, but i hear good things. they always put up a
great performance at regionals. i bet they finish much higher than
8th. excellent program that produces sound players.

PURDUE:
-dan benjamin. great thrower/handler. he'll get open, don't worry.
his hucks are always on target, and he makes the best decisions.
he'll hurt you.
-mike d. great long. if you don't put your best defender on him,
you'll be sorry. he'll beat you deep...i guarantee.
-other long. sorta tall. good cuts and great hands. always open. i
think he used to wear sunglasses all the time.

QUEENS:
-haven't seen these guys play, but it sounds like they have a lot of
talent and will be ready to battle come regionals. it'll be
interesting to see where they finish.

CHICAGO:
-x...watch the invert. he'll throw it to the dude 50 yards downfield
on the break side. run with him after he throws. he is all about the
give-and-go.
-z...the brothers find each other. they will chain saw the disc all
the way into your endzone if you aren't careful. if z has the disc,
watch x. if x has the disc, watch z.
-glasses handler. get this guy more involved. he has solid decisions
and great throws. why do a 2-man weave, when you could do a 3-man
weave?

CASE WESTERN:
-never seen them play this year, but some dude has a gallon of milk
riding on them. these guys may be the dark horse this year. we'll
see.

KNOX:
-saw a bit of them at sectionals. were up on illinois 8-7? weird.
-two handlers. they play very similar and run the offense. they'll
get open on you downfield if you aren't careful. they run hard and
have a desire like no one else. they have something to prove.
-tall long. catches anything. saw him come down with some serious
swill this past weekend. gets open in and deep.

NOTRE DAME:
-quick handler (rob?). this guy has great throws and good catches.
he'll find the open guy and thread a needle to get the disc to him.
-crease (sp?). is he injured? didn't play at sectionals. solid
player. really athletic and has good throws.
-other handler. also injured? didn't play at sectionals. good
throws and better decisions. smart player.

OHIO U:
-good team in years past, but perhaps this is a down year? i haven't
seen them play, so i don't know anything about them.

BOWLING GREEN:
-i have no idea.

Because, why would X and Z throw to Sam when they could throw to each other?

Baker's a solid handler - he could break into the rotation for the top

Michael Degs is a very solid player. Makes great catches when the throws
look bad. Total-package type.
Barbie is one of the most suprising players on that squad. Barbie, you seem
like you should suck somehow, but you don't. ;)
I'm probably forgetting a few that would stand out if I saw them again, like
their other captain - James?
Then they have this army of pretty good players that come from nowhere every
year. I see these good players I've never seen before at random things
around the north coast. I think they're pretty decent players, I ask where
they're from. They are from Oberlin.

> CASE WESTERN:

Only real prediction: Russ will back out of the gallon of milk.
Rehnert (handler) actually succeeded in the milk challenge. Should be
ineligible but he's addicted to college ultimate.

My alma mater. Best team we've ever had - wins over OU and Oberlin this
season for the first time ever. They have a number of quality athletes and
actually have height. Fred Sieling can be a fantastic defender. Drew Ozier
(real tall) should have been regional frosch last year. Snyder's throws are
almost as good as mine. JT, Schooney are go-to receivers. Not much new
talent this year, but last year's team has gotten more solid. Still
inconsistent, this team will not finish 12th, they'll either do suprisingly
well or a bit worse. Depends on how they come out of the gate, I'd wager.

Its true, people should watch out for Jon Goupell. He is the hardest
working kid I know. If he was at a bigger school every school in the
nation would know about him. I've played for 4 years now and the only
other player that I have seen work as hard as Jon is his brother Matt.
Some day they will be on the same club team and everyone will see
them at nationals.

As far as Hope College at regionals! Well its a sad story. The date
of regionals really screwed us this year. Graduation is the Sunday of
Regionals and the day before that is Clay's wedding (a senior on the
team). We will be missing 4 of our seniors. I'll be the only senior
at regionals and this will only be for Saturday. I'm not talking
smack when I say this but if regionals would have been the last
weekend in April we would have probably bought tickets for Austin. I
know northwestern and Ohio state are shaking their heads right now but
honestly we would have given Ohio state a very good game and could
have come out on top and Northwestern has yet to actually see our team
this year. Anyway...

Haha, yeah ... Barbie is good. He has a slight MCL problem and wears this
brace now. "Barbot" may or may not stick. My favorite play this year was
probably against this Harrisburg team who had a few salty players ... we're
on O, someone throws an errant throw, it's pretty low to the ground.
Barbot's in the front of the stack. The defender on me sees the disc going
away, yells "DOWN!" ... and then Barbot makes this uber-layout about 2
inches off the ground to catch it. "Down" my ass ...

Aforementioned Mike Hamm. James Burris is ... on a rebuilding year. Two
ACL's blown in two years would mess you up too.

Man, Freddie IS a good defender ... that is true. A really good mark among

I don't know what was going on at sectionals, but OU is going to make some
other teams very unhappy at regionals. They have skilled players and a
program that's been around forever.
