The National Ultimate Media Panel's Womens Top 20 for the weeks
beginning Feb 25, 2009 can be found below.
The NUMP is proud to annouce that, i believe, for the first time in
the organization's history that the Womens voting out numbered the
Mens!

3 columns this week...current rank, team name and number of points
earned thru the balloting.
4 different teams earned first place votes, as indicated in the
parentheses.
UC SB earned 11, Oregon only 1 but finished #2 in the rankings...while
Washington garnered 8 first place votes and Wisconsin 3.

In 4 rankings this season, 3 teams have been ranked #1
UCSB in the preseason poll, followed by UBC, then Washington and again
UCSB.

I hope you enjoy keeping up with these rankings....please post them to
your website if you'd like...and use them to rank teams at your next
tournament!

comments welcome.

Is the points column a total for each week or is it a running total
for the season?

---that is the dumbest question EVER on rsd.
duh.....the points column are the number of votes tabulated for a
given team for ONE PARTICULAR week of voting.

The UC Santa Barbara women earned 421 votes THIS week....and were
voted #1 by 11 of the National Ultimate Media Panel Members

did you find your green case?

Ever? Doubtful.

No, I will be rushing home this afternoon to look for it though.

Similar to the men's side in that the "big names" seem to have the
advantage in the poll. At any rate, this list is great locker room
motivation for those teams that were overlooked this week...

And, of course, 6 of the top 10 from NW.

Who was overlooked? I'd love to hear more about teams that aren't
getting enough respect. I can't say that I'll agree but I'm always
interested to hear other viewpoints.

The only major oddity I see in the rankings is that Berkeley should be
a couple spots higher. They are 2-0 vs. UCLA and 1-0 vs. UBC. Plus,
their only losses have been to Stanford and UCSB.

Also, I only see 5 NW teams in the top 10. All of them are deserving
(fyi, I'm not from the NW).

I think all four of the teams that got 1st place votes are good
candidates for number one but I'm a bit surprised that UW has so many
votes despite losing to Oregon at Bellingham. Maybe those voters think
that UW will be the better team down the road but I think you've got
to factor in regular season results, right?

Wisconsin vs. UCSB for number one would be a much more intriguing
debate if Bella Donna had won TiV. I'm sure that they will be in the
mix come Memorial Day.

Specifically, I think Dartmouth looked pretty good at Mardi Gras last
weekend and faired a bit better against Michigan than Texas (though we
were not at full strength). Emory, though not particularly deep, also
has the potential to match up with those listed. I'm also suprised
that Illinois didn't break the top 20 after a pretty good showing at
President's Day.

I agree. I guess missing Semi's at Pres Day probably hurt them in the
rankings.

True. I mis-counted. Also, I was just pointing it out...I played
college in the NW, so the continued dominance is fine by me :). These
teams play eachother so much. It goes a long way to raise and maintain
the higher level of play.

That's a good point, but looking at Vegas is tough this year what with
the crazy weather. Also, it was probably Wisco's first time playing
outside in quite a while.

Always happy to see a women's thread get a bump on RSD...
