Rules quiz?

like to test my guys (on a newer college team) on some of the basic
rules and common calls of the game, and was wondering if anyone had
posted a quiz online or had one they'd be willing to post for

I'm not involved with it and it's not UPA-affiliated, but it's testing
on the UPA Rules.

Thanks, Colin. I did worse than expected on that one. It seems a
little more advanced (in general) than the quiz I'm looking for. Maybe
I'll have to write my own? Anyone else have one?

team in this way. My coach/teammate/friend and awesome Ultimate
player has been writing weekly quizzes for our team that are divided
into beginner and advanced. The questions are written for females so
you'll have to modify it to your wishes. The answers also provide
where they are found in the rules which is handy so thanks go to
Rachel Derscheid for being so awesome at Ultimate and taking the time

Here's a few questions I just wrote - nothing official, but hopefully
it's helpful. They involve common situations. The answers should be
fairly straightforward from looking through the applicable rules
(definitions, marking rules, continuation rule, travels, fouls, etc.)
It's all stuff everyone should know.
1) You are marking too close and just after you say "eight" the
thrower calls "disc space." You stop counting and back up, as
required and then with what number do you continue the stall count?
2) You are defending the dump and you stumble and fall into him. He
calls a foul. The thrower doesn't hear the call and hucks a completed
pass into the endzone. What is the correct outcome (where does the
disc end up)?
3) You are defending the dump and he runs into you and knocks you
down. You call foul. The thrower doesn't hear the call and hucks a
completed pass into the endzone. What is the correct outcome (where
does the disc end up)?
4) You are defending a receiver who cuts deep. As you cross
midfield, the thrower hucks it and calls a foul on the throw. Your
receiver drops it in the endzone with you hot on his heels. When the
disc goes back to the thrower, where do you and your receiver set up?
5) You are defending a receiver who cuts deep. As you cross
midfield, the thrower hucks it. Further downfield, the receivers legs
and yours become tangled and he calls a foul. You contest because you
don't believe you initiated the contact. When the disc goes back to
the thrower, where do you and your receiver set up?
6) You are defending a receiver who cuts deep. As the two of you are
running side by side, your legs become tangled and you fall down. It
is unclear who initiated the contact (if anyone), as you were simply
vying for the same space. The disc floats down just a few feet away.
Is this incidental contact?
7) You are on defense and you intercept a pass in the endzone and
immediately begin walking it to the endzone line. Your marker begins
stalling you while you're walking. Is this allowed?
8) You are on offense and you catch a pass near the sideline, running
at full speed. Your momentum carries you off the field and you walk
back to the sideline where you went out so that you can put the disc
back into play. Your marker begins stalling you while you're
walking. Is this allowed?
9) After a turnover out the back of the endzone, you are picking up
the disc. You initially begin walking straight up to the endzone
line, but then when your defender's back is turned, you sprint to the
line, come to a complete stop, establish a pivot on the line and huck
a goal. Your foot did not drag. The defender, just catching the tail
end of your sprint and the throw, calls a travel. Is this valid?
10) I am on offense cutting deep for a huck. My defender jumps and
catches the pass, but then non-dangerously collides with me and knocks
me down. I call a foul. Is this a legal call? If so (and if
uncontested) where does the disc go?
11) You are the thrower. The dump has crept close, about 16 feet
away. His defender is positioned 9 feet from the dump and 7 feet from
you, which causes your throwing lane to be obstructed. Your dump is
dancing a little and the defender is reacting to him. Your teammates
on the sideline are screaming "Call the Double Team." You call the
double team. Are you right?
12) You are marking the other team's big thrower. Your teammates have
already told you (a) he's a big thrower and (b) he travels, so you're
putting on a tight mark and watching his foot. He quickly steps out
and hucks a backhand and you look down and see his foot dragging.
What else do you need to know before you call "travel"?
13) The Tortoise is guarding the Hare. As the Hare blazes past
(about 9 feet away), the Tortoise is obstructed by another offensive
player running past. Tortoise calls pick. Just after the pick call,
the thrower completes a pass to the Hare, who is now even more wide
open. The Hare stops and accurately announces "my man was the one
picked and the throw was after the pick." Tortoise agrees that he was
not going to be able make a play on the disc. Was the pick call
legal? Where does the disc go?
14) You are marking and a pick is called. You just said "six." When
play restarts, what is the first number you will say (after
"stalling").
15) You are fast-counting the thrower and you yell "ten! Stall!"
The thrower contests the stall, saying you were counting too fast.
After "stalling" what is the first number you will say when you
reinitiate the count?
16) As in Question 15, you are fast-counting the thrower. The
thrower has already contested one stall and you continue to fast-count
and announce "ten! Stall!" again. The thrower contests the stall for
a second time, saying you were counting too fast. When play restarts,
what is the first number you will say after "stalling"?
17) Same as above, but the thrower contests the stall for the third
time, saying you were counting too fast. What is the first number you
will say when you reinitiate the count?
18) You are the marker. The thrower has already called "disc space"
on you once and you stopped counting, backed up, and reduced the count
appropriately. However, you gradually move closer again and the
thrower loudly calls "disc space" a second time. You and everyone
downfield stops playing upon hearing the call, except for one
receiver, who sprints to the endzone and catches a huck from the
thrower. You are thinking about calling a violation on the thrower
for playing on after the "disc space" call. What is the correct
outcome here?
19) You are the marker. The thrower has already called "disc space"
on you once. Now the count is up to 8 and you're fast-counting. The
thrower calls "violation" and stops play. He argues that the fast-
count was the second marking violation you'd committed (the first was
the disc space violation) and he was treating it as a general
violation, so the stall go back to 1. You argue that he can only
treat it as a general violation on the second instance of the same
kind of marking violation. Who is right?
20) You are the marker. You lean hard on the thrower as hit pivots
out. You continue to lean lightly on him as he winds up and hucks it
for an incompletion. He calls a foul. You contest, saying you fouled
him on the pivot and he can't throw and then call that. Who is right
and what should the outcome be?
