Yeah, then we could have had something like this instead:

Classic. Wonder if he was under Corky's tutelage, because that's a
call he would have made too.

Yeah man it would suck when a ref makes one bad call in a game. Its a
good thing no one makes bad calls in our sport now.... That would be
awful

Yup.... just goes to show you that NYNY were cheaters, yeah that's it,
those cheating New Yorkers!
and they were not nice guys either.

MJ

p.s.
I believe that NYNY faced a similar winner take all point in Worlds
finals versus those Swedes in England (can't remember the exact year),
but no calls were made, rather a cheating defensive block by NYNY
(Walter comes to mind or maybe it was Jon G) sealed the deal instead.

the irony of it is that neither Boston or NYNY really ever cheated to
win, both teams truly did not want to win without honor or without
their play determining their victory.
But sometimes it's plays like this that only the players know what
happened that give people mistaken impressions.
in all my years playing against Alex the Count or any of the Boston
guys I really never saw him or them as a team make bad calls and I
can't recall a game between us that was decided on a call. (but then
again my memories are cloudy) well, then there is Corky....;-) luv ya
cork, jk.

I had a similar situation in Worlds against Boston in Madison when I
called foul against Lenny not on game point but at a critical time in
the game and people came up to me after that for months with snide
comments about my "phantom call". Lenny and I made peace over it, he's
a true gentleman and a warrior.

it's something we players had/have to live with since we have to make
our own calls and don't have good instant replay or referees to
validate/invalidate. It is understandable that Alex's enjoyment of the
victory was less than ideal given the reaction and I found myself
feeling some of the same, even now I think about my "call" with some
regret. Whatever the case, it goes to show you how public perceptions
get formed and how wrong they can often be. which is why I brought up
the NYNY are cheaters issue, an opinion which was formed, I think,
primarily based on Ken Dobyns aggressive tactic of throwing into the
marker and calling foul (often justified, sometimes not) and our
ability to get very physical with teams, usually in response to their
trying the "hack a shaq" defense on us because nothing else would
work.

Alex D AKA "The Count" may not have been the friendliest guy out
there, but he was not a cheater. If you look carefully at this clip
at about 2:05, it looks like the defender hit Alex's forearm before
hitting the disc. It is very tough to tell from the camera's angle,
but I see Alex's arm fly upwards at a weird angle before the disc
deviates from its course.

Having said that, bring on the refs.
