So, I was on DDL (daily dime live, for those of you not
familiar with ESPN's NBA features) tonight checking out the
fun talk about LA/OKC.

Jim Cavan, one of the guys from www.knickerblogger.net, made
an interesting comment:

______
Jim Cavan (KnickerBlogger): I should talk to Scoot. I've
spent an inordinate amount of time thinking of how a call
your own system would work.
______

I, of course, quickly replied that there is a sport that
does use a "call your own" system and mentioned that there
is a semi-pro league. Included links to USAU and AUDL.

Surprisingly, my message was made public, which means I
probably just exposed a few thousand people to
ultiamte/USAU/AUDL, which is never a bad thing.

But, it gets better.

I sent another post explaining that even at college/club
nationals, players make their own calls.

His reply:

________
Jim Cavan (KnickerBlogger): I think by virtue of being
faster-paced, basketball would pose challenges ultimate does
not. But I still think it could work.
________

And, I agree, there are a lot more moving and colliding
parts in basketball and more contact that is ambiguous, so
it would be tougher to self-officiate. But, apparently
ultimate players are not the only ones who have thought
about self-officiating as a system for regulating sports.

And...I got three posts on DDL in one night. That is a
record for me, I think.

Just fun stuff.

I am kind of depressed that 430 people looked at this and
not one of them thought it interesting enough to respond. :)
Oh well.

Don't be so hard on yourself. There was nothing to disagree
with. rsdnospam doesn't have a "like" button but if it did
then you would have gotten 215 likes.

Nice detail dannonjax,

Thanks for passing it along.

I've never had cable except for 8 months on Oahu in 1989 so
I miss out on much espn sports/pop culture minutiae such as
that.

but the semi pro league you referenced ISNT a "call you own" system.
and did you bother emphisizing that its the traditioalist leaders of
usau that are the ones all caught up in maintaining that outdated/
archaic system?

but its not likely that people are gonna bother researching it further
than taking in the innacurate and misleading info that you
provided........so maybe it is a bad thing

but did you explain that the trend in thesport is that its gravitating
AWAY from being a self call system.......and clarify that the audl was
actually a distinct shift for the sport going to a normal/modern
reffed system?

seems like you are attempting to propagate the anti ref agenda that
usau advocates????

if it could it would,......and since it isnt/dosent, well, you do the
math

no shit sherlock. EVERY sport is plated in a selk officiated
fashion.........ITS CALLED PICK UP. but theres an obvious reason that
system isnt used in real/official comp.......and "apparently" ultimate
players ARE THE ONLY ONES that havent figured out why this is.
