Southeast region hype

2 bids coming out of the SE region this year thanks to
Georgia's miraculous jump to 20th the last week of the
regular season. Good thing too, because it would have been
a crying shame for a region with powerhouses like Florida,
Georgia, Central Florida, and Georgia Tech to only get 1
bid.

What do you guys think? Who will take the Sections? Who
will go to Natties? Who is your all-region team?

Nick Lance definitely. i'd bet to say he's the best player
in college right now. i haven't seen elliot but he plays for
chain so im sure he's good. definitely travis and fletcher,
both are huge players. Hickson is a beast too, and
definitely mike ogren, he dominates. Byron Liu is a great
player too. that would probably be my all region list. and
freystaetter :) and i would definitely consider jay clark
too.

Definitely agree with Bjones in that Mike Ogren and John
Best should be there with Mischa F. and Mike Hickson. Best
is their center handler and Ogren is the go to guy on the
D-line, playing O when they need to power up.

I have to vote for Chris Browning for all section. Chris
completely dominated every team he faced this weekend and
led Bama to their 3rd straight conference title in what was
supposed to be a re-building year. Chris was a starting
handler for Tanasi from 2009-2010 and brings tons of
experience to Bama at a position they desperately needed.
If you don't know him now you will after Regionals.

I played pickup and league with Chris Browning in Colorado
several years ago and had no idea he was doing so well these
days. He's a great player and an awesome guy. Anyone have
any highlights? I'll be rooting for him.

I haven't watched many college teams or games this season, but I
watched the UGA vs GA Tech Sectionals final this past weekend in
Athens, GA. I know several of the players who played in that game
(having played club with at least a handful of them). The best player
on the field, by a mile, was Nick Lance. He was all over the place,
and his throws (and ability to get open at the dump consistently)
drove GT throughout the game. From what I hear, it sounds like he may
be the best (or one of the best) college players in the country.
Based off of his play in that game, I can't say that I am surprised
that he's in that discussion. Seems like a no-brainer for All-Region.

Prior to watching the Sectionals Final, I would have said that
Georgia's best players were probably Max Leonard and Fletcher
Hartline; however, neither seemed to make much of a positive impact
consistently throughout. (Maybe it was an off game for either or
both. Max's throws weren't as crisp as I've seen, and Fletcher seemed
to be a non-factor in the receiving game.) Elliott Erickson didn't
play, so I didn't get a good gauge on his role on UGA's team; all I
have seen of him is his time on Chain. In my mind, the best player
for UGA was David Hooten, a senior receiver and defender. He seemed
to be the only guy consistently making plays against Tech. I doubt
that he'll be make All-Region, but if his play during the Sectionals
Final was indicative of his college season, perhaps he should be in
the discussion.

haters gonna hate... but if you have been at this game for
any time at all you would realize that Tennessee always has
a slow regular season. last year Agent Orange went in to
Sectionals the 3 seed and won, and ended up getting 3rd at
Regionals after losing to Georgia on Universe, and had about
the same regular season as this year. maybe Tennessee does
a good job of spreading playing time during the regular
season and buckles down for the series. maybe nothing
matters but what happens at regionals. maybe kaltrin is
right and Tennessee blows. only time will tell.

If there's another guy in the southeast that can hang with
Nick Lance defensively, I'd like to know his name
(seriously, because that's impressive). Ractliffe is easily
deserving of consideration for all-region.

player:

- Unquestioned team leader on and off the field
- Has led a team with only 4 returning starters to #18 in
the Skyd rankings
- Played virtually every point for the Gators over the last
two years
- Starting Offense for the 2010 National Championship team
- Excels as both a handler and downfield cutter
- Extremely difficult to mark and defend due to his 6'8"
wingspan
- "Possesses some of the best throws to space in the
country" - Zack Smith
- Typically draws the most difficult matchups on both sides
of the disc, and wins

Travis Catron is one of the best players in the country, and
in his five years with the Gators he has compiled one of the
all-time greatest careers in Florida history.

From all the talk on here, looks like there are plenty of
Tenn players using RSD, and none of them are passive in
their hype. Same as last year. Maybe they have to because I
haven't heard somebody not affiliated with them speak their
praise yet.

Reading between the lines, it seems like they were down 9-5
to GT, had a late run (no easy feat admittedly), then got
put away. How many D's did Ractliffe actually get on Lance?
Is there video of this game? Would love to see 2 monster
players like those battling it out.

Congrats are definitely in order to Tenn for going to Athens
and beating UGA at home. Not easy to do under any
conditions, especially since Trey was hurt toward the end of
the weekend if I'm not mistaken. I do also know that there
were numerous UGA players missing due to injury, including
their top 2 (Elliott and Charlie Herrig), along with 4 or 5
other guys who play significant amounts of time. Still, Tenn
came out on top when it mattered.

What about the seeding? Had some surprises come out of every
conference this year.

Gulf:
1) Alabama
2) Auburn
3)LSU
4)Vanderbilt

I don't know where the last two qualifiers come from. Is it
d3?

Anyway, assuming that the two unknown d3 teams attendng
regionals with be seeded 15th and 16th, here is a quick look
at seedlings.

1)Georgia Tech
2)Florida
3)UCF

The first three seeds are pretty set the way I see it.
Georgia Tech has a higher rri than Florida, but UCF has to
be behind Florida because of conference results.

4)Alabama
5)Tennessee
6)Georgia
7)Florida State

These four I'm not very sure about. Tn beat Georgia at
conferences, but lost to Alabama at CCCs in November.
However, TN finished better than Alabama did at T-Town in
January. Georgia beat Florida State at tally classic.
Florida State played florida and ucf close, possibly losing
on a botched call. Maybe switch Tn and Alabama? I don't
really know.

The next set of teams I'm also unsure about. People should
worry about GA Southern. After looking at their score
reporter, they were one point away from fighting for second
at their conference. Instead, they got 5th. Vanderbilt also
looked like they had a lot of close games at their
conference.

I really just wanted to get the conversation started. I
didn't look into very many results pages or RRI. Take it as
you will.

I've heard confirmation that LSU will not be attending. It
was right in the middle of their finals and they didn't have
enough guys going to warrant an 8.5 hour drive.

The other 2 teams are supposed to come from D3. GCSU won D3,
but is attending Natties, so that leaves Samford and
Armstrong Atlantic. There was word floating around that
Samford would not be attending, but I have not confirmed
that.

The next 4 waitlist spots go to Miami (Florida), Southern
Miss (Gulf), Kennesaw State (SAPP), and Ole Miss (Gulf).

Assuming Samford isn't attending, here is what my seeding

Also, from what I saw in the second UF-GT game, Lance, Jay
Clarke, and a lot of other GT players weren't playing. As a
general rule I don't put much weight into a low level
placement game that's the last game of a 3 day weekend.

Has anybody heard of Armstrong Atlantic before? Glad to see
ultimate spreading and creating new programs. I like that
USAU is making an effort to include smaller and
developmental programs in their postseason series, but
there's some point at which being overmatched isn't that
fun. Plus its rough to see a school like that take a
regionals bid away from schools like Ole Miss and Kennesaw
State.

Even with Tennessee's obnoxious hype machine going (obvious
blow against Tenn's credibility), it would be silly to put
them below Alabama. Head to head, common opponents, and
tournament finishes all seem to indicate that Tennessee and
Georgia absolutely should be ahead of the top of the Gulf
section.

Definitely agree about Ga Southern though. Close losses to
Tenn and UGA. Plus, let us not forget this is the team that,
at Regionals last year, beat everybody's favorite team to
hate: Florida.

homeboy is right. LSU will not be at regionals. Also, take
that last Auburn win at sexionals with a grain of salt, we
(LSU) were gassed from a very intense finals game against
bama, and seeing as how we weren't going to Regionals
anyway, we just played our rookies.

I know it's really easy to give tons of praise to tall
people, but Mike Hickson is not that good. In UCF's game
against Claremont, he dropped 2 pretty easy goals in the end
zone, and was generally unimpressive. (I can put up some
footage if you guys really want) On the other hand, I'd say
John Best is UCF's second best player, if not the best.
Someone's gotta put up sweet hucks to all those enormous
players.

Chris Browning should be on your first team ballot, or at
the very least on your second. The kid throws hammers like
it's his job. Except he's not a kid, he's 28 which makes
the fact that he mostly played both ways this weekend (when
20 year olds were cramping on the sidelines by the third
game) even more impressive. Probably the smartest player on
the field this weekend, he got the disc at will wherever on
the field he wanted it, and then he proceeded to put it
wherever he wanted to. He would be the main handler for any
team in the region, save Georgia Tech, without question.

People love to see the 'everyman' with ups or smarts get the
better of tall players. 6'3 guy skies a 5'10 guy twice in a
row? "You can't teach tall!" 5'10 guys skies 6'3 guy on the
third matchup? Pandemonium! But who has had the biggest
impact so far?

As an ultimate community, we love feel-good stories, upset
wins, new teams succeeding at nationals, and the little guy
putting one over on the big man (either in skying or
voting). We pick Steve Nash over Shaq, almost always.

Note: as for Hickson vs. Best, I have only watched two UCF
games and both of them played well- you could certainly be
correct that Best is better than Hickson. Since they won the
region, it would probably make sense to have three UCF guys
on your ballot, anyways.

FSU has to go to better tournaments. even going to a good
tournament and getting beat gets you noticed. but if you do
go to a low level tournament you have to win it. Georgia
went to warm up, won tally, and went to easterns. And most
of the Tennessee talk on here is just Tennessee players just
boasting about how good their team is. its also obvious FSU
was the fourth best team in the region this year. good luck
next year.

Lol at Tennessee once again. So much hype, but NO one makes
all-region for them...not even the guy who they all claim
shut down Nick Lance and should have been in the Callahan
conversation.
