Also, I can't imagine how inadequate it must be for Little Gibson to
not make it to Nationals after how awesome Kurt was. Guess having one
talented child would be enough for me.
Also, a note to the Florida coach...maybe try a defense where Brodie
doesn't walk around after his man...didn't turn out so well.
And also, Florida, it looks like GA's defense strategy worked out,
after all :) Fucking faggots.
Suck it Brodie.
I dont know Brodie and rarely post on rsd but this email is one of the
most shameful posts ive ever read on rsd which says alot when you
consider some of the shit toad and frank have posted
have the balls to put your name if youre going to post something like
this otherwise you end up looking like a "fucking pussy"
hugs and kisses,

Just showin off that high-brow Georgia class...
most have no clue.
way to be RUDE.
Forehand-less-rookie or best-player-in-the-country...no one should
have that crap written about them. Yer just another hater. Get lost.
Congrats UVA, NCState and Georgia.
Awesome post minus this. Show some respect for Kurt. I hate him on
the field as much as anyone else, but posting something like this when
florida is just trying to pull for an old teammate fallen on hard
times is pretty weak.
-ttt
Foster or Mac for Callahan.
Florida might be obnoxious on this forum, so maybe being obnoxious
back to them is justified, but in person and on the field they are
just college guys having fun and play with as much sportsmanship as
everyone else. Hopefully then if you see them in person you give them
more respect, which seems likely since you don't have the balls to
actually challenge someone face to face.
T
I didn't mean anything against Kurt. He was one of the best players to
ever play. Period. He and Timmy G led an amazing team, with better
than average spirit. And good things came to them. I'm just glad that
the least spirited team in history won't be making an appearance in
Ohio.
Brodie didn't shake hands against UVA or NCST

Wrong
I believe ten minutes after the State game ended he was still lying on
the field being tended to by teammates with water and wet towels, but
then maybe he was keeping a cricket pinned down so yeah another dick
move.
T
I don't think so. I think he was exhausted from trying to carry his
team by himself. Which happens when you develop a team around one
player - especially in 90 degree weather. Which you'd think they'd be
used to, coming from Fl.
For the record, the Florida 'boner check' stuff was just almost the
most most annoying stuff on RSD this year. College kids being annoying
on RSD is not a new thing (we thought we were breaking new ground in
2000...we were wrong then too). But those guys played hard, every day,
and spineless posters like "brodiesu...." probably don't think this
stuff matters because they don't care about Ultimate nearly as much as
those Florida guys do. Have you bled through the workouts they run?
Have you trained as hard as they have? Have you made the scarifices to
be the (until Regionals) top team in the country?
To put it another way...I can't imagine there is any love lost between
Wisconsin and Florida. But one thing they share is commitment to the
sport. I doubt you are gonna see any Hodags jumping in here to take
potshots on Florida, 'cause they know how awful it must feel right
now. Any Hodags that do jump in are likely going to be disciplined
pretty quick by their captains. You, on the other hand, are weak.
I guess the kids these days use the term 'noob' for someone that
doesn't know what is going on, right? Here's a clue...if you see names
like Patrick Mooney, Ted Tripoli, Buggle and T-roy jump in to say you
are out of line...guess what, you are. Those aren't 19-year-old
internet junkies...they are dudes that have been there, and they have
taken hard losses on the chin, and they know what it feels like.
Feel free to respond back, but please post your names so I know who it
is that has no clue what hard work and commitment means. I don't think
my 'sticking up' for Florida does them any good right now...but I
can't help it. People like you are the worst.

On Apr 26, 10:16 pm, "edgar.grah...@gmail.com"
thinking one or two people can carry a team is absurd...that's where
florida couldn't get it done. Brodie smith is an incredible player,
but he will never be able to support a team into to, or through, nats.
neither can gibson...for sure. Congrats to UVA, GA and NC State for
makin it. Rep the AC well.
the florida guys ball. they played with a lot of heart and should be
proud of how they battled this weekend. this post is some lame shit.
Brodie is a hell of a player and so are a lot of the guys on florida.
if I am not mistaken florida has a quite a few young players that will
help make them very good next year. instead of hating on the florida
guys show some love for the three very good teams that made it to
nattys out of the most competitive region in quite a bit of time. I
always knew that the best ultimate players would soon be coming from
the southeast and the tide is turning. hell yeah ac region, represent
at nattys!!!
First, if this thread means nothing at all, why do you feel the need
to attack people who are in your own words just “college kids being
annoying”? Why do Florida players get a free pass when they post
insulting and demeaning things on RSD, while other team’s players
don’t?
I have been a part of a team that missed nationals by 2 points in the
game to go, just like Florida. It was heartbreaking. Our team worked
extremely hard and cared as much as any other team in the nation. We
weren’t a bunch of tools who posted videos of ourselves for everyone
to gawk at while we made fun of them on RSD. We didn’t treat teams
that we beat handily like second class citizens of the ultimate
community. This does not make us heroes; it makes us just like every
other team, except one. This is the reason Florida gets no respect.
Just because you also acted like a fool on RSD in your day doesn’t
make it the right thing to do. Florida has a right to come on RSD and
be a bunch of annoying college kids just as you did. So does everyone
who they have pissed off.
Your post defends Florida's work ethic. Their work ethic was never in
question. No one has mentioned it, except for you. What people
question is why they feel no need to act with class, shame, or pride.
They are often adamant supporters of Ultimate getting out of the back
alleys of college sports and into the mainstream. Their actions
highlight why we are still where we are.
To put it another way…I can’t imagine that when the #1 ranked team in
college football plays an unranked non-BCS team they would act the way
Florida does. FSU coach Drew Graff describes Florida’s performance
(more of a performance than a game/tournament from how it sounds) at
sectionals:
“On a side note it was a little upsetting to see Florida's obvious
disrespect for the teams it was playing. It was the first time a UPA
tournament has been in Tallahassee in at least a dozen years, and all
the fans got to see was the #1 team in the country acting like trolls,
playing D on each other, and throwing hammers to 8 people in the
endzone.”
I think that this is more than just the simple case you have put
forward of Florida being the victims of some great internet
injustice. This isn't a case of harassing some innocent bystanders
who were put in an unfortunate situation. This is a classic case of
reaping what you sow.
John Michael Assad
Also, florida didn't wear those 20 wrist bands for their own benefit.
you're a fucking idiot...and most likely a terrible frisbee player...
-Angela
that's an interesting point that might be apropos of past
moments (i.e. boner check guys being annoying). the circle
might not be perfectly round, but it isn't square. which is
to say, yes, the florida guys have been more than their share
of annoying, but who amongst THEM said, "hey guys, maybe we
should make an effort to be classier - and stop acting like
jerks." did their captain? did brodie? if so, did the annoying
guys listen?
no. but we had to. which doesn't mean that you're wrong
about kicking people when they are down, or personally calling
out specific names. but you know, the circle.
Regionals often comes down to one good weekend. FL had one bad one.
In 1989 UNCW was to host College Nationals. In doing so, we were
assured that we would also be playing in it. Fortunately RSD was not
around back then, but needless to say we lost first to UPENN and then
to Carnegie Mellon I believe. We had to watch Nationals at our own
field. We were nowhere near the team that FL was in 1989. But we
didn't lose a regional championship for the next 4 years after that.
Our talk wasn't at that party or on some message board, it was on the
field in the way we played the game, the way we trained at practice,
and the way we supported each other despite our differences.
Yeah, I've taken a shot or two at the FL team for all that RSD boner
check trash talk and then failing to qualify, but to single out a
player who has seemingly dominated the game is candy ass, but it's
pretty clear by your post that you never played at that level, nor
never will. But I bet you dominate summer league. Stud.
somehow i saw the mooney and didn't see the patrick.
thought it was moons, thus the rudeboy reference...
This shit is all moronic and classless.
First, while Florida puts their stud athlete who is gifted with speed
and throws to use a lot (oh man, what a terrible idea), they have
talent across the board and are full of guys who I saw making plays
for them this weekend. Were they as deep as other teams? No. But to
say that they deserved to lose because they just run Brodie out with a
bunch of scrubs is misinformed, and I doubt you'd say the same about
other teams with big time players.
Second, while Florida's work ethic was not what was called into
question, Wiggins bringing it up was certainly appropriate because it
correlates to how hard this loss must feel. And when you go through
something tough, it's just not nice to be kicked when you're already
really, really fucking down. I was just as put off by Florida's non-
sense throughout the year as anybody else, and I'm bummed they won't
be in Columbus because I had some sweet heckles ready for Cole's hair,
and I certainly see the irony in Cyle watching them not make it. But I
also saw the pain on their guys' faces, and, you know, think it'd be
cool if people in the world stopped rubbing it in when other people
were hurting.
Word up to Georgia and NC State, and congrats to the rest of the teams
in the region who put up a hell of a weekend. Now, if someone could
find me a source of income (note: I didn't say "job") between now and
Nationals, I'd be stoked.

UVA #27
actually, in 1993 (nationals champs year) we lost to ECU in the
regional final.
Mike G and I BOTH dropped a pull in that game (the only one ever for
me).
That's 2 points right there and in a tuff game that's all it takes.
Then we had to go stomp on UVA to secure a spot, but we knew we were
the better team.....shit happens.
> correlates to how hard this loss must feel. And when you go through
> something tough, it's just not nice to be kicked when you're already

Agreed with this. Not nice to be kicked when you are down. HOWEVER,
based on this comment:
“On a side note it was a little upsetting to see Florida's obvious
disrespect for the teams it was playing. It was the first time a UPA
tournament has been in Tallahassee in at least a dozen years, and all
the fans got to see was the #1 team in the country acting like
trolls,
playing D on each other, and throwing hammers to 8 people in the
endzone.”
Florida is a team that meets a lesser team, beats them down,
intentionally humiliates them, belittles all the work they have put
into their season, and does everything they can to emphasize an
attitude that says "even though you worked hard all season you are not
as good as us and never will be...ha ha ha, look what we can do." All
this on the field, in person. They kick teams down, then kick them
while they are down, and laugh about it the whole time. Reports are
they were doing this ON SUNDAY against UT, a game before Night Train
sent them to the backdoor game to lose.
Sorry, can't feel any level of sympathy for them whatsoever and don't
really mind if people are harsh to them on RSD.
Also, worth comparing the Florida way to a real program, like
Colorado, CUT, or Wisconsin. Colorado's sectionals scores last year on
Saturday were 15-0, 15-0, 15-0. That is a dominating performance. BUT,
we didn't hear any stories of completely classless behavior coming out
of the Colorado Section. I imagine COlorado played hard, worked on
their game, and happened to not get scored on. They beat the lesser
teams soundly and those teams left knowing they had been beaten by a
better team. Sucks to lose, but CU was better.
In the same situation, FLorida takes the opportunity to make fun of
the teams they are beating by goofing around, acting stupid, playing D
on each other, and letting the game drag on longer so they can try
more off handed, no look scoobers. At the end of the game the losing
team knows they have been beaten by a bunch of classless idiots who
happen to form a better ultimate team. Their defining characteristic
is their lack of class, not their play on the field.
I certainly see your point here, and don't think it's invalid. Aside
from being annoying, Florida has been as classless as the initial post
in this thread. I guess, though, that what I was essentially saying
was that it comes down to a "do unto others" type thing: Florida acted
like asses for a while, probably feels humiliated, so why take things
further and, in all likelihood, fuel whatever negative feelings that
they have toward the community as a whole. On the field, when a team
hacks and grabs on the mark, sometimes you have to fight fire with
fire because there is an end game. But now that we're not playing, I
say just leave them alone because I'm sure that they feel shitty
enough.
jeezus christ ben, shut up. people get what they pay for.
sincerely,
chris a.
However, sometimes when the first team starts to play dirty, the other
team keeps it clean. I think this is much more effective. If you want
to show Florida how classless they are, then be full of class
yourself, even when they don't deserve it. Let's not harass or
belittle Florida right now. They feel bad enough. Perhaps if the rest
of the ultimate community is capable of being civil towards them right
now, they'll be kind enough to return the favor next season.
oh shit, he played the spirit/karma card.
my magic 8-ball says "phuck em".
these clowns are classic terrell owens!!
BOOM BABY!
1. When Florida posted "boner check" every day, it was funny.
2. When that same team doesn't take one of 3 bids to Nations, it is
funny.
3. When Brodie Smith gets the Callahan It will be the funniest thing
ever.
After a little research, I have noticed that Brodie is not nominated
yet. If Florida fails to nominate him -- which I fear might happen --
it is up to the Regional Coordinator, Tiffany Waters, to nominate him.
In summation, Tiffany Waters, please nominate Brodie Smith for
Callahan, and Open college players, please vote for him.
Remember, Callahan nominations are due by the 4th. Only about 10
women's teams are up, and many notable Open teams are missing.
Here's another fact. I think the entire ultimate community should call
on Florida for a public apology. Not just for sucking major donkey
dick, but for being the lowest spirited dickbags in the entire
country. Even in the game RIGHT BEFORE they get FUCKED by UVA. 14-7
was it? Jesus. #1 team in the nation? What?
I think you're overreacting to this poster. Florida brought it upon
themselves to be public enemy #1 by, from all accounts, being
disrespectful to their opponents, which correctly I think seems to be
viewed by the ultimate community as counting for something. And they
talk a lot of trash on RSD, which is entertaining to be sure, but of
course others are going to take vicarious pleasure at them crashing
and burning at regionals (go C1?). That said, the very first post on
this thread did cross the line.
sorry. IMO the MVP award should go to the player that helps their team
the most.
not sure how to put a square peg in a round hole.
if you ain't in the show, you prolly ain't on the list (or shouldn't
be).
(and yes, I know some of the sickest players sometimes play for lesser
teams).
maybe try for the spirit award or something like that.

additionally, if they acted like dicks (like many seem to indicate)
and then

probably agree. I try not differentiate because I'd like to see it
"there" someday.
I've been on a "dick" team before (my entire competetive career), but
it was never because we hyped ourselves, just because we played a game
most were unfamilar with, yet totally within the rules layed before
us.
never got any sympathy either.
The difference between our shit talking and this shit talking is that
we use our real emails. We are not fucking pussy's who can only talk
shit when there are no consequences. We lost those games at regionals
fair and square, congrats to the teams that beat us (especially UVA as
this is their first time at natties as far as I know). Of course we
expect people to talk shit, this is still a sport we play last I heard
and there is shit talking in real sports. Boo fucking hoo, everyone
hates us, oh no, what are we gonna do??? Keep talking shit, please,
maybe it will bring some intensity to the sport and we can cut out all
this hippy non-sense. The only thing I would ask is to man up and do
it wearing your own jersey, not some fake email address. As for the
coaching advice thank you, I will consider it next time. Finally, as
to the crack at Kurt, you are clearly misinformed on the issue and to
anyone who knows why we wore those wristbands you sound like an
extreme asshole, and incredibly classless. Fucking kill yourself,
because I know you are relieved you don't have to see us at
nationals,
Windham
Florida
fact is... we didn't. when both of my captains were hurt and most of
our team was missing, we need leadership and some fire from someone.
I wasn't able to provide that for my team as i feel i should have, and
for that i put a lot of the blame on me. It was up to us to help out
our captains since they were having a rough weekend, so that they
could recover and get to the national stage to put on the show they
usually do. brodie was the the most miserable person i have ever
witnessed in my life and yet he was still out there trying his best to
keep our season alive. it's not his fault we didn't make nationals,
it was our 6-11 players not being able to step up in a time of need.
I know a lot of you hate us, probably 99%, and thats fine, we bring
that upon ourselves, but why talk that way about a person who led us
to a 34-2 regular season with 3 major cultimate victories. thats just
ridiculous. we shit the bed, we know that, but to attack him is
completely unwarranted. attack and our inability to step up and take
over when our captains are having heat strokes, that was the real
issue. you'll see us working hard in the club season to get better
and hopefully be a better supporting cast for him in the future.
That being said, NCState played a great game and i wish them the best
of luck, and Virgina should fuck some shit up at nationals, they are
pretty legit. carleton, congratulations.
see you all at CCC, if not club nationals.

I have not seen them on the field, so I cannot comment on that. But
as for r.s.d, they punted away their dignity themselves, throughout
this year. It's not possible for us to let them have some dignity, if
they don't possess it in the first place.

Windham,
Based on a comment below, it appears you are the coach of Florida. If
that is the case...wow...Florida is worse off than I thought and you
are an idiot. Lets talk about "real sports."
Is there trash talking? Yes. Do I care if Florida trash talks? Nope.
That is sports.
But, lets return to a previous quote about Florida.
“On a side note it was a little upsetting to see Florida's obvious
disrespect for the teams it was playing. It was the first time a UPA
tournament has been in Tallahassee in at least a dozen years, and all
the fans got to see was the #1 team in the country acting like trolls,
playing D on each other, and throwing hammers to 8 people in the
endzone.”
Now, I am assuming, given that there are multiple similar accounts of
Florida, that this is accurate.
Lets replay this scenario in the context of a "real sport."
March Madness, 2009 Round 1
#1 Seed UCONN vs. #16 Seed Chattanooga: Final score 103-47
The result is basically predetermined. No 1 seed has ever lost to a 16
seed.
But, what if halfway through the game, with a healthy lead, UCONN puts
in their second string. They start playing defense on each other and
chucking up left handed hooks from half court (the basketball
equivalent of jacking hammers to 8 people in the endzone). The coach
and first string sit on the bench and whoop it up, having a great time
laughing at their clearly outmatched opponents who, having reached the
tournament after struggling through their conference to win an
automatic bid are powerless against a clearly superior foe. UCONN
still wins, obviously, because they are a much better team.
What would be the response from the media/public if that took place in
a D1 championship event?
Words/phrases like "disgraceful" "embarrassing" "despicable"
"shameful" "no place in sports" come to mind. Large fines from
conferences and NCAA would definitely result. The coach (that is YOU
Windham) would certainly be fired, probably along all with his
assistants and the Athletic Director. Alumni support would plummet
after a disgraceful performance like that, costing the University
millions of dollars in alumni donations. There would be a public
outcry to have the team removed from the tournament and possible
sanctions on future participation.
So, trash talking, sure, that has its place in sports (although "F-ing
kill yourself" would probably also get you fired if Ultimate were a
"real sport"). What Florida Ultimate has done, and apparently was
doing on Sunday morning vs.UT belongs on a 4th grade playground, and
the teachers would step in and correct the children for their poor
behavior, hoping that by the time they reach adulthood they will have
grown up.
In summary, Windham, what you are bringing to Ultimate is far more
damaging and discrediting than "hippy non-sense." People (Toad
excepted, of course) at least can respect the inflated role of
sportsmanship (aka. spirit) in Ultimate as an admirable, if perhaps
naive, possibility. What you allowed and encouraged your team to do
throughout the year was pathetic and would earn you the scorn of every
sports writer, commentator, and fan in the country if Ultimate were a
more well publicized sport.
There. That is my rant. If I am wrong on any of those points, I
welcome your feedback and I am willing to listen to your explanation
of the situations that have been cited. If the accounts are
exaggerated, by all means clarify, but there is too much evidence to
the contrary for me to ignore the possibility completely.
Unless you're the football coach at Miami.
I play for Tennessee. I don't know how the other games went
sportsmanship-wise, but ours was fine. The game we played against
Florida went as follows: both teams were exhausted. It was played
fairly with a lot of subs and not many starters from both sides.
Florida won. We shook hands and went home, they went and played NC
state. Those 3 players were under a tent drinking water and eating
food in hopes that if their team beat us, they could play in the game
to go. The post that says they were degrading towards our team in
anyway is wrong. Aside from that, because of all the shit florida
talked over the course of the year, a lot of this thread is warranted
and hilarious.
I do however want to say something in response, since I have played
Florida 3 times this year and many times over the past 3 years. I
love the game of ultimate, and Florida, being my team's foremost
rival, gives me and my team fuel to work harder and learn more about
the game each and every day. Jojah had an up and down season this
year with disappointing failures and inspired wins. We were without a
full team at any tournament until Regionals. But I'd say that without
Florida---Brodie and their 8 players that set foot on the field almost
every point of every game---and their team "spirit" that is under
discussion here, our entire season would have been a lot less exciting
and hardly fulfilling. Their competitiveness as a team with a lot of
talent, and the way they play (however much shit all of you want to
talk about it) makes for the most invigorating games we play all
year. They, like most untouchable teams in sports, are the reason
other teams get better, work harder and eventually take them down. I
enjoy their questionable tactics no matter how unsavory, and I like
beating them even more. Hell yes NC State for making Natties and
taking it to the team at the top.
Suck it florida. Cordially, of course.

Agreement here from another UT player. There were a few BS calls in
the game (observers handled it, no bad blood for sure), but Florida's
attitude was just as good if not better than the rest of the teams we
played at Regionals.
So maybe they didn't act like massive douchebags against UT at
regionals. But that's because they had just got their asses handed to
them by UVA and they were in the process of realizing "Holy shit,
we're probably not going to Nationals." If you need proof of how big
of morons Florida makes out of themselves when they play a team that
clearly doesn't have a shot against them, just watch any of the
"lowlights" videos they've thrown up on YouTube.
The one that Ugly Troll posted, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHVJcFThWzg,
is really funny. He prefaces the video (a week before regionals) by
saying "Wow we're not going to Nationals."
Boner check, Florida.

Yes, just like a bouncer with a 4D Maglite at the Mad Monk prevents

Thanks for the input UT guys. Good to hear. However, from watching
"Wisco vs. Mama vs. Pirates" and the "Florida Lowlights" video
(decided to do some fact checking), it is pretty clear that UF did
engage in the behavior described in my referenced quote.
Based on all the people speaking up, I can conclude three things.
1. Florida trash talks a lot, especially on RSD, leading some people
to dislike them and for most people to take a bit of ironic pleasure
in their failure.
2. In many to most games, UF plays like most elite college team. Yeah,
there are bad calls, but they are no worse than most.
3. Florida has, on occasion, engaged in behavior that, by intent or
not, appears to be extremely disrespectful and demeaning to their
opponents as they play them.
1 & 2 I am fine with. 3 is where I think UF should think about
changing their ways.
I would have respected this post a lot more if you wore your own
jerseys at Sectionals. That is all.
As another UT player, we did have observers. And also the playing by
FL was solid, even though their big guns were resting up. We did trail
11-9 at one point and we might have seen the big 3 or 4 cleat up just
in case, but the players on the field played fair. It would have been
nice to shake hands with the studs after the game, considering i hear
so much about these guys i wanted to see who they were, but thats okay
i suppose. props to NC State, they beat a very very good team.

second that. damn, karma is a bitch sometimes...
-The initial poster of this discussion committed the most despicable
act i've seen in relation to Ultimate (other than Boutcher from Tide
threatening to kill a Squid-B player). Have some sense next time.
-It is obvious from the footage in the videos that Cole Sullivan has
made that Florida has some maturing to do. The comparison to a college
basketball team is very accurate and troubling. I would dare not
single them out, though. Taking into account Oregon's shenanigans,
amongst other atrocities committed in the Ultimate community (wasn't
Potlatch last year or the year before that a public nightmare?), the
entire culture surrounding the sport needs to be changed. I am not
going to lay all that blame onto Florida. If this sport is ever going
to be taken seriously, we have a lot of work to do.
-Who in their right mind is gonna criticize Brodie for suffering a
heat stroke? That doesn't even warrant an elaboration.
-I am going to commend Cole on taking responsibility for what
happened. With only a 9 man rotation and multiple people going down,
that's a ridiculous situation to be put in, and Cole owned up to not
playing and leading as well as he should have. It should also be noted
that he did nothing but compliment his opponents, and even with the
opportunity to lash out at all the negativity (see: Windham), he took
it all instead. Props, Troll.
-I witnessed firsthand the pure ecstasy from an entire region
(Southwest) in learning that Florida had been knocked out. It's
possible that this is a result from teams realizing that they had a
better shot at winning Nationals without Florida there, but I'm going
to instead assume that it is mainly because everyone hates them. I was
one of very few who were disappointed by the news. I'm traveling from
Long Beach, CA to Ohio so I can watch Nationals in person, and not
being able to watch the best team in the country (and one of the best
players) is very disappointing. (The same sentiments go for not being
able to watch Oregon.) Granted, I'm still excited to watch some
amazing Ultimate by some really good teams (Carleton, Colorado, etc.),
I will still feel like I'm missing something.
-Congratulations on an awesome year anyway, Florida. And with all
those guys returning for next year, the rest of the country is in a
lot of trouble.

We can all agree that Florida's actions at Sectionals, while
entertaining, were immature and ridiculous. The analogy to college
basketball was incredibly accurate. However, taking into account
Oregon's shenanigans and the admittance of those actions being a
normal part of the Ultimate culture, and I am not going to fault
Florida that much. Games are not taken seriously on a regular basis,
and that is a result of the sport's culture. And it won't be until we
fix some of those issues that this sport will ever be taken seriously.
On another note, I personally witnessed an entire region (Southwest)
become ecstatic in learning that Florida didn't make it to Nationals.
I, on the other hand, was distraught. Whether you love them or hate
them, they are one of the most entertaining teams in the country to
watch, and Brodie is one of the most exciting players. Not having the
best team in the country at Nationals is very unfortunate for the
sport. I am traveling from Long Beach, CA to watch Nationals in
person, and was devastated to learn that I would not be able to watch
them. While there are plenty of elite teams still going (ie. Colorado,
Carleton, etc.), none of them have the must-see factor of Florida, so
their presence will be missed.
Congratulations to UVA, Georgia and NC State on qualifying, but I have
a feeling that a fire has been lit under Florida, and with all those
guys returning next year, the rest of the country is in a lot of
trouble.

One note on the Oregon shenanigans: that was Oregon A vs. Oregon B, if
I heard correctly, thus a single team effort to be stupid, not one
team being stupid while another team struggles to keep up. Big
difference.
And you are correct, there are frequent times when games are not taken
seriously. Tourneys like Poultry Days, Fools Fest (more than one of
them), Harvest Moon, and various other party/costume tournaments
frequently have a high level of shenanigans that are an expected part
of those tourneys. However, there is a difference between everyone in
a tournament wearing costumes and being goofy and one team dressing up
like Pirates/two other teams to play against an opponent who is trying
to compete, work their hardest, and maybe vie for a spot at Regionals.
That was me, I was signed into a different gmail account. Sorry for
the confusion.
I had heard it was Oregon v. Oregon St and they agreed to a No Shirts
v. No Pants point to decide the game instead of playing against each
other again after multiple meetings already this year. Finding actual
details is a little difficult.

do any of ya really think, after kurt got hosed last year, that ANY of
them florida guys give a flyin fuck about that award.
I'd rather win the nump mvp award ANY DAY!!
I'm assuming that you missed out on the whole NYNY era of ultimate
there hb. They were hard mutha fuckin core and they flourished it
(and NOBODY disrespected them........probably out of sheer fear).
Personally, i think that the florida team would be "their (NYNYs')
kinda guys". they would have probably either passively recruited them
of at least been very welcoming in their "trying out". You, hb, musta
came along during those lame ass boring years when the spirit centric
dog was at the top of the food chain.

how about the fact that you come accross as a pussy. sports arent
about spirit, they are about fierce competition. why you feel the
need to get your little boyscout world mixed up int sports comp i'll
never understand. other than the obvious pussy attitude.

If the accounts are

the possibility of florida being assholes? WHO CARES!!! see now,
this is the part of the sport where chumps like you want to turn
ultimate into a gayfest popularity contest where everybody has to be
pals and "play nice". FUCK THAT! give me a sport/game where there is
genuine dislike between the opponents ANYDAY! Your problem, hat
bitch, is that you just dont "get it".......and on top of that, you
dont get that you dont "get it".
Small correction won't be "able to watch the fourth best team in the
Atlantic Cost Region."
As to comparing the bullying and trash talking that Florida directed
at their opponents (coupled with the priceless failure to back it up)
with Oregon's self-inflicted wound, you're way off. I'm one of those
"time and place" guys. Oregon was stupid, but their behavior was
without malice and only mildly embarrassing to "the game." In short,
Oregon's shenanigans were cheeky and fun and Flordia's shenanigans
were cruel and tragic... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok85BmPyl_I}
There is no common ultimate cultural thread tying these things
together. Oregon's behavior is connected to our past -- Florida's is
connected to our main-stream frat boy future (and i suspect their
attitude is one of the reasons that at a school so large they had a
rotation so small).
We live in a country where Michael Vick's return to the NFL is
discussed every day on sports radio in terms of "which teams can he
help," Pantsless ultimate is simply silly (though i don't think oregon
should be off the hook --pantsless ultimate has no place in the
series).

> . I
> enjoy their questionable tactics no matter how unsavory
THEIR questionable tatics????? looked like you guys were the ones
using the questionable tactics........invading their disc space on the
mark and then callin offensive foulsssssssssss on the pivot. I've
never seen such a thing. Actually i have, but the questionable call
was traveling, not charging.
Touche. I was basing my ranking opinions on an entire season of work.
Florida had 2 losses all season going into Regionals, playing some of
the best teams in the country on a regular basis. They happened to
finish 4th at one tournament (albeit the most important one up to that
point). Maybe that shows that they couldn't win when it really
mattered. We've all heard and seen the accounts of what happened to
them and it would be difficult for any team to win in that situation.
Virginia, Georgia and NC State deserve all the credit for playing at a
level that allowed them to win, but if had to pick 1 team that would
beat any other team in the country at any given moment, it would be
Florida.
As for the comparison to Oregon, I don't think they are as dissimilar
as you say. At the core of the problem is an immaturity/foolishness
level that is rampant through the sport. I'm more disconcerted with
what Oregon did. It was illegal (as far as I know) and tasteless,
bottomline. Clearly Florida's actions were also ridiculously
disrespectful to the other team and there is no place for that either.
But if you're the other team and you don't want that to continue, stop
them! Go out and finish that point in 30 seconds as opposed 6 minutes.
They were playing 2 or 3 on 11 or 12 at any given moment!
As for their attitude, they have as much fun as anyone when they play.
And I'm sure they're not the only team in the country with a small
rotation, regardless of school size.
Lolz. Hard core muthafuckin' frisbee players, beyotch. Straight
gansta.
I think the analogue here would be Miami wearing army fatigues on
their way to getting upset in their bowl game.
Miami was a great team then, and Florida was a great team this year.
That said, their hubris wasn't matched by their performance.
Miami was of course pilloried by the press for their antics. "Excuse
me, but didn't the Japanese lose the war?" Indeed.

False dichotomy.

And again, toad manages to miss the entire point. Yes, I did miss the
NYNY era, but I have heard they were pretty hardcore. Question: Did
they ever play a game in which three people on the line wore pirate
costumes, two people wore DOG uniforms, and two people wore (insert
bay area team) uniforms, and played a little game were the teamates
could only throw to people wearing the same jersey/costume?? That
isn't "hardcore," that is goofing off at the expense of your opponent.

I'm all for fierce competition as well. You may have noticed (but
probably not, because you don't do a very good job with reading
comprehension) that I never complained about Florida's trash talking
or anything related to spirit. When you are beating a team 13-3 in a
game to 15 (hypothetical scores) and decide to goof around and make
fun of the team you are beating, that has nothing to do with fierce
competition. In fact, that seems to me to be the opposite of fierce
competition. A fierce competitor would play hard start to finish and
beat their opponent in a rapid and decisive fashion, not get
distracted by making fun of the opposing team.
You are always talking about getting outsiders to take ultimate
seriously. Reread my basketball analogy (or read it for the first
time, in case you missed it). Is that what you want to promote in
Ultimate? How would people react to a basketball game like that? For
reference, see Florida vs. Georgia 2007 and Micah Grimes to see what
the general public thinks about teams rubbing it in on an opponent.
Do people take the Harlem Globetrotters seriously? No. They are fun to
watch, but no one considers them to be a serious basketball team. What
florida did was get up big, then start acting like the Harlem
Globetrotters, except the other team wasn't in on the joke. That isn't
hardcore, that isn't fierce competition, that isn't genuine dislike.
That is school yard bullying and has no place in any sport.
