Hey dude, you're right. I owe you some research on my
claim. I've talked with the captain of my old team (we
played as "mkf" and wore red jerseys) about the tournament
in Wilmington, NC. The tournament had to have been in the
early 00s. I've got good news and bad news.
The good news: Nobody on my team clearly remembers your
team forfeiting. Sunday was cold, windy and rainy. Nobody
is clear on whether our team left early, some other teams
did, or whether the tournament was called because of
conditions. I'm not ready to say I'm wrong, but I'll
concede that the lack of corroborating eyewitnesses means my
claim that your team forfeited a game wouldn't stand up in a
court of law.
The bad news is that the old teammates I talked to clearly
remember your team blatantly cheating against us during our
Saturday game. We clearly remember your team as having a
cocky air like y'all were almost too good to be playing us.
Then we started beating y'all, or at least keeping the score
uncomfortably close. Instead of playing better or accepting
defeat at the hands of a team y'all clearly disdained, many
players on your team simply cheated to win. I was
intentionally fouled at least once.
It was no phony tournament. It was a real game, and I know
it was your team because there was plenty of bitching about
"Gerics," who I assume is you. I don't know if you
personally cheated, because I don't know who you are. I
don't even know why I devoted time to this, other than a
compulsion to make sure the record is set straight: We
don't remember your team as quitters. We remember your team
as cheaters.
Hope that helps.
