Who's going to make the team this year? West Coast has a lot
of talent, such as the Northwest School, Lakeside, South
Eugene, etc. East Coast also has a large talent pool with
school such as Paideia, Amherst, and Columbia.
So here's the question. Who's going to make the team? Who
got invited to tryouts? Who has a legitimate shot? This is
the future of Ultimate.

USAU is supposed to put up a list of the players accepted to tryouts
shortly once they get confirmations from everyone. Why don't you wait
until then so you can see who is actually invited instead of just
speculating? Or you could go read the version of this thread from like
a month ago.

Obviously Amos Adams and Aaron Honn will make the team this
year because they made the team two years ago. Carter
Thallon out of Tuffs (South Eugene Alum) is a very athletic
and smart player who can shut down players on defense.

I heard Amherst has no talent this year. Looks like we'll

Obviously, just like last year and every year before that, Amherst
will have a ton of talent. Don't be a fool.
The question is how much better has the rest of the country gotten?
It's not as much about finding those big name players from the big
programs as it is about finding the little diamonds in the rough that
nobody has heard about. Regardless, there will definitely be a few
Amherst and Paideia kids with a shot to make the team, simply because
they produce the best youth Ultimate players.
All I know is I'd keep your eyes on Paul Klimkowski. He's a freshman
in college, so his competition will be stiff, but he's got all the
essentials. He's played at the highest level of High School Ultimate
and he's gotten to bump a grind with some of the best club teams
around.

I agree with Isaac, having seen Paul play in HS and knowing he has
gotten all fall and spring in college I would expect him to have a
strong chance. Amos should make it again. John Kennedy was the best HS
player in VA last year and I watched him dominate individually
numerous players on the list so he has a good chance.
Funny how Amhearst has at least 6 players on the list since they have
"no talent this year".

Watch out for Seth Kotzman from Shawnee, KS (Kansas City).
He's 6'4 and the state hurdling champ last year, and
although he didn't have any organized high school ultimate,
he's been playing for 4 years and practiced with Kansas
college and club players. He's currently at Western
Washington, and still a bit raw, but he's going to be one of
the most athletic players out there at the tryouts and has
college-level throws.
Quick question as well: does anyone know if there's been
u-20 players from Kansas/the KC area?

As a player who attended the Eastern tryouts, this is as an
unbiased of a reaction as I can give. Responding to some of
the statements above: There were two or three standout
players (some mentioned above), who were consistently making
big plays and set themselves apart from the rest. Beyond
that though, everyone else was solid, and I do agree that
the rest of the players were "very equal."
However, I would definitely not say the level of play was
"so high." Overal, players played at a very good Highschool
level of Ultimate, but it was not on par with the level that
had been displayed in past years of the team. As for Amherst
players, if you count Amos Adams (who graduated and is now
at Colorado College) who did not play at the tryouts, but
made it last time and will undoubtedly make it again.
Otherwise, Amherst senior Danny On was impressive in the
short spurts of the tryouts that he was able to play despite
being injured, and having seen him play before I would not
be surprised if they took him besides his limited playing
time at the tryouts.
On the west coast, of the people I have seen play before, I
would expect Kalif A, Vinh Bui, Killian Marsh and possibly
Jesse B make the team. Obviously the best freshman in the
nation Aaron Honn will be taken back on as well.

He played well. Has a decent shot at making the team. Will
most likely win FOTY in the Northeast region (he plays for
Tufts), but will have to nudge out the other freshman on the
Tufts squad Tyler Chan from Needham.

I watched the tryouts and the west coast was really good.
The weather was terrible both mornings but it got better as
the day went on and by the afternoon on the 2nd day, the
scrimmages featured a ton of huge layouts, hucks, and D's.
It was something to watch. I would feel confident with
putting any of these 40 guys on the team the way everybody
performed.
Guys that particularly stood out to me:
Aaron Honn (Obviously)
Khalif El-Salaam
Eli Leonard
Harper Garvey
Henry Phan
Justin Lim
Christopher Job

him or because he actually is? I'm not asking because I'm bashing
him, I think he's a really good player. However, there were other
very good players in VA last year. Do you think he was better than
Jay who actually made the team? or players like dominique or xavier
who were not at tryouts? Also it was all over skyd magazine that
xavier was going to try out, but I didnt see him on the list. do you
happen to know why he didnt?

Comparing John to Dom or Xavier is probably more appropriate as they all do similar things on the field. John is a better athlete than Xavier their throws I would say are very comparable, John maybe has a little more distance if needed. Dom is a better athlete, but hes a better athlete than anyone on the field on a given day, but his throws aren't on the same level.
Xavier told me that he didn't get invited to tryouts, basically he said he didn't take the application very serious because he had been invited to the last tryouts. I think it was just a bit of complacency on his part which is a shame he definitely deserved to be there.
