I am working on an article and I wanted to know if people out there
knew of siblings in ultimate. I know about ben and seth, Gwen and
Tenise, the titcombs, the patiestas(?), the twins from Cal, but
anyothers? Same team different team, college/club, male/female
doesn't matter.

thank you

Myself + six brothers, age 22 to 5. Every one of them is growing up to
be a much nastier player than I am (the five year old has been
throwing a flat flick for two years now, no jstar necessary). An all-
Slade savage team, 6'1 to 6'4, is only a decade away.

Vandenbergs, Paul and Mike, of Boston Ultimate/Brown and currently
captaining Brown. Speaking of Brown, the Mahoney brothers and the
McCarthurs (sp) all played.

The Simon Twins (Rebecca, Brown) and Adam "Chicken" Simon of Colorado.
The Tunnells, Dylan formerly of UGA and Leila, currently of
Connecticut College. The Zipersteins, Dory being the younger sister.

Some of the more famous ones:

- Molly and Claire Suver - twins (both captained on the U.S. Junior
Worlds team in 2006, both played for Riot, Molly plays for Oregon,
Claire for Washington)
- Josh and Dory Ziperstein
- Dylan and Leila Tunnell
- Derek and Colin Gottlieb
- Lisa and Sam Kanner
- Adam and Rebecca Simon - twins

The only way I got into ultimate was because my older siblings, Anne
and Nate Bosscher, both play.

Ask the Titcombs who they get on their Siblings Potlatch team each
year, they make it a requirement to have a brother or sister playing
with you.

We were just talking about this the other day. Over the years, I have
known five(count 'em) sets of twins who played; some together on the
same team, others not.

The Owens brothers, Matt and Ben. Matt (Scrappy) played for the Black
Tide in the late '80s; Ben (who was also a world champion boomerang
tosser, if you can believe that) played a bit less formally in the SF
Bay Area.

The Stoud(sp?) brothers. Tall redhead identical twins who played
collegiate for Stanford and Las Positas. Early mid-90s.

The Glimmes. Three brothers, two of them twins. Twins played for Tide,
later Condors; younger brother played for SLO. Late 90's early 2000s

The Wexlers, Matt and Aaron, played for SLO mid 2000s. Matt now plays
for Condors. Aaron drinks for a living.

Tyler and Levi, identical twins playing for SLO these days.

Also, Pat and Mike Butler; Brian and Tim O'Donnell and some I'm surely
forgetting.

And here's a good one: Doug-the-Bum Salter is Steve Dugan's uncle
(that's a lotta rings in one family tree).

there is a more athletic set of brothers playing this game I'll be
shocked...and terrified.
Kevin and Keith Monohan were star handlers together on Sockeye '04 and

Eli (Oregon) and Jacob (Whitman) Janin are pretty friggin' good
players...

tournament sometime.)

While we're at it, Dave Haan and Jim Haan, myself, combined to form an
illustrious duo on the coed Sandblast team Project Raw Dog in 2005.
At one point, David was so engrossed in defensive tenacity that he
forgot to initiate the stall count. Either that or it was because up
until the tournament, David had never played organized ultimate. Jim
Haan (again, that's me, folks) dazzled beachgoers with unnecessary and
potentially dangerous layouts, while adding another bronze layer to an
already stunning tan. Over the course of the weekend, Project Raw Dog
fell several places from a charitably high seed to finish somewhere in
the 12-16 bracket, closing out a story book ending to the Haan
dynasty.

Back in the late 1980's Chris Phillips played with New York New York
and competed against his brother Motta who played for Boston.
In the early 80's they both played on various NY teams together, or so
I've been told. I moved to New York in 1986 but maybe someone else can
give more detail.
they were both incredible players who exemplified skill,
competitiveness with sportsmanship. Hard to say who was better, a toss

The Cincottas deserve a bigger shout out here. It's like they have an
ultimate player breeding program. If the Naval Academy hadn't axed
their ultimate program, I'm sure Joel and Nick would've ripped up the
Metro East.

JMU has had a sibling thing going for years now, Zorro. Jae (Booboo)
and Eric (Astro) Miner, Jeff Laarz (Jeffro) and his sister, Scuttle
and me, Matt Eddy's brother was one of the 'fish founders. . . etc etc

What is really an interesting question is have we reached the point
where we can have three generations playing ultimate? Grandparent,

Matt Barker.
And Steve "Aquafresh" Atwell (JMU alum as well) and Robin "Colgate"

Matty J!!!

while i love that you mentioned teddy, you forgot some teammates of
yours that i was talking about just the other day for some reason.

Rick and Bob DeMan. I know Bob won a boatload of titles, but didn't
Rick play NYNY one year too?

I played with both of them early 80s and at that time, Chris was the
better player, also had 4 or so inches on Motta. Motta was pretty
damn good though.

Don't think this was mentioned yet:
the Burghardts, Liana formerly of Carleton and Karin formerly of
Delaware. They had a nice little clip on CSTV's coverage of 2006

"I love all these UCSC relationships. Especially the UCSC ones."

Conor Ranahan (looks like a more innocent version of Pierce Brosnan,
circa Remington Steele days) plays for UCSC. His older brother Ian
(who looks like the bad guy in Titanic) played for Black Tide, now for
Revolver. I believe the Ranahan boys may be the only Black Irish
siblings on this thread.

Actually, Jocelyn James and Emma James have another sister, Julia,
that played at Stanford too for the past three years. They also have
two brothers that both played at Stanford as well. Tom James is a
stud at Stanford right now and plays for Revolver while Adrian played
co-ed on CTR after graduating. They might even have another sister.
I can't keep track...

holy shit how could I forget. Played with Bob Deman a lot more than
Rick back in the day but they are both really great players, Bob with
more titles as I think Rick played one year maybe two but I still play
against Rick Deman in Westchester Summer League. Our teams faced each
other for the WSL title two years ago and we won a squeaker by a
point.

surely there are others I'm forgetting.
Jerry and Mike McManus of New York City. I played with Mike on Kaboom
in 1986, Jerry blew his knee out that year or something and didn't see
much of him after that but heard he was incredible, as was MIke

Jay Janin and Jacob Janin played together for the 2006 Oregon Section
champs Hippo. Jay was at Nationals in 2007 playing on a Masters team
and his sons Jacob and Eli were on Rhino. That's pretty impressive to
have siblings playing together at the highest level of competition and
their old man still kicking ass, he can still play elite club level
but chose to do Masters.

Jeff Landesman tells a story about playing (a point? a scrimmage?)
against an entire line of the Clan McManus.

Mom, Dad and all 5 boys (I think Chris being the youngest at like
7ish?).

What's Chris? 30ish? So this would have been mid 80s?
