These cleats were all the rage among Ultimate players 3 or 4
years ago:

Unfortunately they went out of production a while back and I
can't find them anywhere online except in odd sizes.

Anyone know what Nike's successor to this model is, and if
it's any good? I had a pair of the standard Speed TDs a
while back, but they didn't compare to the lightness and fit
of this guy. My current pair are almost worn out :(

Thanks.

I believe those were called like the vapor jet 4.0-4.3. The
went away from the soft outsole and what they marketed to
the same athletes are now the nike corbon fly (vapor jet
carbon fly). They come at a price but nike backs them for
defect and puncture wear often for 2 years. The wont be
quite as waterproof as your old vapors but have more support
with minimal weight difference.

They do have much better ankle support for anyone that kept hurting
their ankle with the weak support and low ankle of the vapor jet TD.
Love these new cleats...pretty durable so far.

Hmmm I'll go shopping around the web for those. The 2 pairs
of the model above were each about $100 each, which I'm fine
paying for a quality pair of cleats.

Thanks for the info.

Hmmm that's a bummer as I have no ankle problems and LOVED
the low ankle cut.

Those look like metal cleats but I assume they are clear
plastic.

As of April I believe, Nike is coming out with these. They
look awesome.

I would stay away from the Vapor Carbon (last year's model) and Vapor
Talon (next year's model). With the Vapor Carbon, the the heel studs
aren't actually molded in and they fall out way too easily. It took me
like four weeks of a club season to break mine. Thankfully Nike
refunded them. The Vapor Talon looks like it uses the same glued-in
heel studs. If you can find a pair of the old Vapor Jet 4.3, those
were just as good as the Vapor Carbon and didn't break. Last year's
Speed TD and Vapor Alpha also used the fully molded plate from the
Vapor Jet 4.3 and probably hold up well too, but I haven't tried those
models.

I used the Super Speed TDs and the Alpha Vapor Ones, both of
which have the same cleat plate as the Vapor Carbon, and I
never had a problem with the heel studs.

Though if you want the lightest football cleat out there,
you have to go with the AdiZero 5-star.

It is ridiculously light, and unlike the Nike's it fits true
to size and isn't super narrow.

Just to chime in about the AdiZero 5 stars.

One of the biggest things I hope for in purchasing new cleats is
durability, specfically will I have to replace the cleats during the
season, after the season or will they continue to maintain shape for
multiple seasons. Often times if you find a pair that lasts a good
long time, by the time the cleats do fall apart, they are no longer
available for purchase or as stated in the first post, they are only
available in odd sizes.

I've had a pair of 5 stars since last April and they are holding up
very well. There are no visible signs of structural degradation or
foot slippage as a result of wear and should be able to withstand
another club season. In fact, I haven't seen any telltale signs of
cleat wear anywhere on either boot other than the grass and dirt scuff
marks. If you don't have weak ankles, I would strongly suggest
getting a pair of these. I'm actually going to get a few more pairs
so the likelihood is my cleats will last longer than my body.

Looks like the same plate, but trust me, it's not. On the Carbon (and
I suspect the Talon as well), the heel studs are glued in. They're not
actually a molded part of the plate like the ones on the models you've
owned.

Go with the carbon vapors and keep your receipts/proof of
purchase...when they blow out/tear up, send them back to
Nike. I had a friend go through 3 pair in ~2yrs, but he only
paid for 1.

Sidenote: I used some old soccer cleats (copa's) during
practices, pickup games, throwing sessions so that my carbon
vapors would last longer.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I actually found a
sketchy-looking website that still has the Vapor Jet TD (or
whatever the cleat pictured in my original post is full
named) in size 11. Now, I was a little hesitant to hand out
my CC number to a website named http://shoesibuy.com, but
we'll see if I get burned. So far, it doesn't look like my
CC number has been sold or misused. I'll report back if I
actually receive the cleats, as I'm sure other folks
wouldn't mind getting a pair of these.

please respond if the site works! I've been looking for a
pair in my size for a while now.

Update! The charge came through on my statement and nothing
else fishy has shown up. There was a 3% foreign transaction
fee, which wasn't stated ahead of time and could be cause
for someone to be upset, but whatever.

They sent me a tracking number and USPS says the shipment is
"being processed by United States Customs."

So I'd say this site (Shoes I Buy!) is probably an honest
site run in some other country that just has a really bad
user interface and a bunch of old stock. But for $75
including shipping for these cleats which were originally
much more, can't complain too much.

I'll post back if/when they actually get here. I still feel
like I have a fair chance of being bamboozled.

Yep, I got scammed. What I received in the mail were
athletic shoes, but they were definitely not Nike Vapor Jet
TDs, and they were not even football cleats! I am not an
expert in fake Nike running shoes, but it looks like there's
a pretty good chance they're fake too.

What's that quote about your life being a warning for
others?

Anyway, I'm attempting to initiate a return/refund with the
3rd party intermediary, but obviously I'm not optimistic.
I'm also going to call my credit card company, but I doubt
they can do anything about since I did receive goods and
there were no technically fraudulent charges...just
"incorrect" merchandise.
