Cnetral Region's sectionals is seeking observers. If you would like to
help or know of someone that might be interested, please contact
ndale16 (at) gmail (dot) com. Central regionals is in Milwaukee, Wis on
October 9. Without qualified observers, the job will have to be done on
the fly with whoever is available. Please help if you can. Thanks.

---not needed as much as cones and frisbees......but observers keep it
honest....and that's pretty cool, at the least.

Sorry to be vague- this is in reference to a request made by natalie,
ndale16 at gmail dot com, who was asked to coordinate observers for the
semis, finals, and back-doors games, whose request made it through the
grapevine and finally here. she's just hoping to make things go as well
as they can.

One note for all: I'm not sure what division this is for, but anyone
requesting observers needs to reach out to the appropriate regional
coordinators. Posts to rec.sport.disc will not necessarily result in
observers being available.

ARE YOU KIDDING? Old guys argue more. If there aren't observers then
arguments in important games go on for 10+ minutes. Also, teams like
Chicago get away with unbelievable cheating.

I don't think I've ever played in a Regionals game that needed
observers (maybe 1 that could have benefited from observers). When has
Chicago cheated unbelievably?

Everyone that plays at Regionals knows each other, there isn't much
crap that goes on.

Regionals absolutely needs observers available. Not every single game
needs or wants one, but it's good to have the option. Teams are
competing to go to Nationals - that's huge, many players spend months
training, preparing and hoping for it. To have your shot at Nationals
affected by someone calling a bullshit foul that gets a disc sent back
that would have otherwise been a turnover? If Spirit of the Game was
observed perfectly, then observers might not be as necessary, but it
isn't. Plus, observers are very helpful on in/out of bounds calls, and
keeping time on pulls and time outs. This stuff matters when every
turn over counts and makes or breaks you going to nationals. Just
because everyone knows each other doesn't mean there won't be
questionable calls, and games to go for nationals are pretty intense.

I just can't imagine Regionals being able to find qualified observers
that aren't playing in the games and are unbiased, too many people know
each other within the region. At least for the Central Region. I'd
rather have my opponent making a call I can contest than trusting
whomever they'd have observing.
