HANDS DOWN, Kennedy Wolfe from Wake Forest University (AC Region).
She's #00 on the team, and can beat probably anybody, whether it be a
cut-in or a cut-out. She can run down any huck, no matter how much it
looks to be overthrown and will cut underneath all day long. In fact,
the most frequent comment on the sideline (even from people not on our
team) when she runs down a disc is "DAMN, that girl is fast!"
Although, she's only 5'3", she's gets up over people much taller than
her. Not only that, but she encourages her teammates and always looks
to make people better. Watch out at sectionals and regionals...that
blonde, curly-haired blur going past you is probably her.

Glad someone started the conversation about outstanding freshmen!

Some other fantastic freshmen women I've heard about this season are
Emelie McKain (Wisconsin) and Lindsey Wilson (Washington).

Emelie is a reliable handler who is already part of the core of Bella
Donna. She's tiny (listed at 4'11" on Wisconsin's roster) but the
offense runs through her and Georgia/Courtney. Emelie was on the
Juniors Worlds team in 2006 and word from the Juniors Worlds try-outs
this year was that she was a top stand-out at the Seattle try-out
too.

Lindsey Wilson also played ultimate in high school and she gained club
experience (and a medal!) with Shazam last season. She's been an
impact player for UW this season, using her athleticism to make things
happen downfield and on D. Definitely someone that other teams need
to think about for match-ups.

Who else should people be paying special attention to at Sectionals
and Regionals?

Brenna Hokanson from Colorado is on the short list from the Southwest.

UCLA has an arsenal of outstanding freshmen including Adrienne Baker
and Katie Falk. Both are tall, aggressive receivers. After Kix and
Cosmo graduate, these two are going to be their go-to deep threats.

UCSB also has a huge freshman class, but I'm not really sure who the
standouts are.

Katrina Weeks is a solid freshman for the Claremont Greenshirts and
should be one of their primary handlers for years to come.

I know there are a lot of strong rookies this year in the SW region
but as captain of the Greenshirts I feel it is my duty to hype
Katrina. She is a very strong handler already (years of experience
playing for the Northwest school) and is not afraid to put the disc
deep. She is also a dynamic player--a good defender and an excellent
cutter as well (although with us she usually handles since that's what
we need most). She has no fear of laying out and her game has helped
our team this year immensely. If I didn't try and get her name out
there for FOTY I'd be a failure as a captain.
