I’m hoping we can get enough voices to comment and persuade our
President to bring Ultimate to a videogame console near you.
Now is the time for the community to contribute to the debate on EASW!
Obviously your cover shot would be Ron Kubalanza.
ultimatefrisbee.com is nowhere near the sport's official website.
There's already been a videogame for Ultimate... Have you ever played
'Original Disc Sports: Ultimate & Golf.'
The Disc Golf section is pretty okay. It's hard to mess up disc
golf. It's a simple sport.
The Ultimate section should be equally as simple, because it's
impossible to go/throw out of bounds (the game designers couldn't
program boundary lines, except as walls the disc would bounce off),
and there aren't any real rules. Oh yeah, you also only get 4 players
per team, and there's a selection of ten players to choose from. The
players all have differing stats (speed, defense, accuracy, throw
distance) and the only one that seems to change from player to player
is speed. They all throw equally as far, maxing out at half field.
I got the game for like 5 bucks in a clearance bin, and was excited
enough to go steal my brothers DS... and then give it back to him. If
there's anything that game made me sure of, it was this: Whoever
designed that game has a circle of Hell reserved for him, where he'll
be forced to play it the whole time, with the players with the max
throw distance and accuracy.
If they're going to make a real ultimate game, we need to get some
refs in the sport first. How would they do the AI for the computer
without it? Are we talking about a third person, up close Ultimate
game, where you only see your cut? Otherwise, how does self-
officiating work in the game? Oh the computer D'd me, I bet he fouled
me. *presses X.* I'm sure game developers are going to jump all
over that one... Oh $&)!, there's no way the computer stalled me.
Fast Count!
We don't have a very well designed game for porting to consoles. You
might want to vote Toad if you want to see Nord or somebody on the box
of a video game.
They are already in the process of making a disc golf game for Wii.
