Theres no hostility in RSC anymore. its a war! You are either on
Bradman's side or on Sachin's side!!

Well, I'm on my backside, and I'm likely to remain upon it for the
foreseeable future. Next few hours anyway.

Only ever watched Sachin on tv, and with only tv as a ref, if you have
seen one Sachin, you have seen them all. I mean that you can close
your eyes and see Sachin play the perfect what ever shot you want.
It's in there in your mind's eye, printed in your memory. I have the
pic in my head of the India team celebrating the wc win. The only face
I can pick out is Sachin.

Bradman. I've probably watched more minutes of Bradman being
interviewed than I have of him playing. The old sepia toned clips are
brilliant to see. When Bradman was playing the mass medium was reading
about or listening to the game. I probably wouldn't recognise him in
if he was standing right in front of me, but I would know a lot more
about him that I would about Sachin.

They are showing this in New York Tribeca Film Festival in a couple of
weeks. Any one from here going? Personally, I'd prefer to buy or rent
the DVD than go all the way to NYC.

Thanks for posting this (though it would have been even better if
there is no mention of SRT -- he was a toddler when this started and
became a major player by the time the decline of WI cricket started).

Ditto. Thanks to the OP for posting the link. Really looking forward
to this. Is it released in India or is it likely to be sometime down?

These documentaries normally show the decisive last strike - the
batsman getting hit or getting out. However, in order to really get an
idea of the batsman's ordeal, one has to see the entire sequence. Ball
after ball of relentless ultra-fast bowling is which creates the
pressure for the last strike - that's what makes great drama.

Still, it would be terrific to see these guys again.

Regards,
Jayen

It's one of the best sport documentaries ever made...it traces the rise
of the West Indian juggernaut from the 50s to the 60s of self assertion
and finally to the 70s and early 80s of world dominance.

The best....and the very very best part about this documentary is the
fact that it has been done from an inside-out perspective rather than an
outside-in. Usually many such documentaries capture or at least the ones
regarding the West Indian dominance have been about us outsiders viewing
them...as masters of pace...as relentless almost beasty fastmen
inflicting wound after wound on our bodies and egos...specifically the
English (coz many Englishmen have done programs like this).

But in this one it is more of an inside-out wherein a West Indian is
telling the tale...of how each incident on the ground gave them
confidence to stand up and be counted...of how vulnerable their minds
were in the 50s and suddenly finding themselves not just matching up to
but even beating the international teams....it speajs about how the west
indians found a medium thru which they could now assert, we have arrived.

I am sure it is gonna be very different experience. I think watching it
from their eyes would probably give us this bit of perspective that they
were not giant gods of cricket but were just as human as us with the
same frailties and doubts and yet they conquered the world.

It'll be a cracker for sure!

Are the torrents out already?

Have you seen it, in order to say that?

The director/writer, Stevan Riley, appears to be British.
I don't know where he was born, but he studied in England,
and has been involved in movie-making there for over a
decade. So, I don't know how much of an insiders perspective
this movie has. Yes, it has clips from the era, and, apparently,
interviews with key players from thevera, but which documentary
on this subject wouldn't?

Nevertheless, it does sound interesting.

Nope haven't seen it...but have been reading about it for almost a year
now so u can take most of what I have written as an expression of
'expectation'

The director is possibly english but I think the documentary itself is
the idea os this guy...forget his name...its a muslim name.

Yeah we must watch it to see if it really is different. Read a blog by
this girl Tanya Aldred on guarduan or something that said it was a fab.

I saw this West Indian team play New Zealand in New Zealand in
1979-80. They were a poorly behaved bunch of cry babies who got their
arses handed to them. Among other things they assaulted an Umpire,
refused to come out of the pavilion to start a test session because
they were unhappy about something, and generally strutted, pouted and
whined before they finally lost. Richard Hadlee was easily the best
fast bowler on display that series.

Can't wait to see all *that* in this movie...
