Lois: Peter, I really wowwied about what's gonna happen to you
Peter: Don't worry Lois, these guys, these guys are going to bat for
my life

[a couple of scenes of Boycott, & Chanderpaul deadbatting everything]
[scene of Boycott, Chanderpaul raising arms and coming back to the
pavilion, only to see Peter Dead with his neck twisted and tongue
protruding

Lois: Oh My God! Peter! What Happened?, Peter is Dead! I thought they
batted and saved his Life
Joe: Well, Yeah. But Peter got killed by .......

You all know what killed Peter

OK, Continuing to use logic and pedantry on an illogical fantasy and
fun XI. Here are some random thoughts and my Bat for Life XI

- If you want to an XI to Bat for your Life, why do you need Bowlers?
- Doesn't it all Depend on whose Life we are saving?
- And What do you want to Live for anyway? (Watch Boycott and
Chanderpaul bat?)

Play for Everyone's Life XI

Sehwag (If you want someone to bat for your life, Murdering the
Bowlers is a better strategy)
Hobbs
Bradman
Richards (see Sehwag)
Tendulkar
Sutcliffe
Barrington
Hammond
Sobers
Kallis
Ponting

What better way to save your life when you have Kallis at no. 10 and
Ponting at no. 11? (i.e If the bowlers have already not been murdered
by Sehwag/Richards or tortured to death by Bradman, Sachin)

Question: what happens if they lose the toss and field first?

Sobers, Hammond and Kallis have a very tiring day.

Lucky they bat so low down the order

Bradman twists an ankle while trying to bowl after the other side has
crossed 800, so they become the play for your life X.

Ponting would throw a hissy fit and refuse to bat at no. 11.
Perhaps, he would remark "I don't think Sachin is at his absolute
best."

Of course, I wouldn't have Ponting play for my life if the bowler
at the other
end was Harbhajan Singh. Although his record against Harbhajan has
improved immensely in the last 2 Test series in India, still
Ponting's failures in
2001 still cast a shadow of doubt over his ability against top
quality spin bowling.

You assume Bhajji's is top quality spin bowling

Bhajji's bowling in the India-Australia 2001 series certainly could
be categorised as "top quality" spin bowling. He looked as if he
could get a wicket every time he came on to bowl in that series.
Harbhajan still has to bear the cross of expectations from that
series.
After all, he did get 32 wickets in that series, and along with
VVSL,
was one of the standout performers in that series.

And you'd be hard pressed to pick TAV if there was a SAfrican sending
down the overs.
Although his record improved considerably in the last series, he still
averages under 40 against them after 22 Tests

Presumably not as bad as Ponting's Test average in India.
In 14 Tests in India spread over six visits Ponting has an
aggregate of 662 runs at an average of 26.48 with one
hundred and five fifties.

For a better insight on Ricky Ponting's travails in India, read the
article below.

So best not pick either. There's plenty of more worthy candidates

Depends if you're after a traditional, backs-to-the-wall fighter, in
which case I'd be choosing someone like Border or Waugh or a team of
players with high averages, in which case I'd be suggesting Headley
and Pollock.

If you just want to stack the team with as many Indians as possible,
then I'd agree, retain TAV.
Obviously Ponting then gets dropped
