Ponting 111 of 122 balls with 8 fours and 1 six

Hayden 117 of 111 balls with 15 fours

Oram 101 of 72 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes

Orams innings came under HIGH voltage pressure compared to both Hayden and
Ponting and hence should have been the PLAYER OF THE MATCH........

Oram played out of the box right to the last ball, and even when the
match was lost he set about narrowing the margin. Never say die.

I'm guessing that Ponting got MOM, never bothered to stay up for the
presentation. While Oram's was a great innings, Ponting's contributed
to the side winning the match.

I had a bad feeling that it was going to be given to Hayden which is
partly the reason I didn't stay up for it, would have kept me annoyed
and awake for hours. :\

Cheers,
Rod.

Its a VERY HIGH SCORING match with TOTAL RUNS scored = 678

For example

GD McGrath 10 0 72 1

NW Bracken 10 1 75 0

MG Johnson 6 0 48 1

KD Mills 10 1 72 1

MR Gillespie 10 1 76 1

Orams bowling should NOT have been a FACTOR in deciding the PoTM.

Too many Ponting ass lickers.......

You missed the POINT.

Orams BRILLIANT ATTACK ALMOST won the match for NZ against World Champion
Aus which is scorching its path to WC2007.

They fell short by a MERE 9 runs from a hopeless position of 198/5 with just
14.4 overs left and 146 to score at 10 RUNS an over.

And if Oram had bowled at even 8 runs per over perhaps NZ might have
won - but he didn't. Too bad. Fortunately the MoM is not decided by
who shouts loudest....

Vettori's bowling arguably stood out as much as Oram's batting.

Fortunately nobody sane really cares who won the MoM award.

I think you missed my point. Oram's five overs were quite possibly
what lost the game for New Zealand. Why would you give MoM to someone
whose performance has lost the game?

3) Oram 101 of 72 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes with a STRIKE RATE of
140.27

His STRIKE RATE made up the extra 10 runs more than normal in this match.

Oram is STILL +20 runs with his batting EVEN after DEDUCTING the EXTRA 10
runs.

CASE is FUCKING CLOSED........

DONT COME BACK and waste my time........

You make a strong point.

I'd have given it to Oram. See my post on Clarke's MOTM to see why.

That's cool. I have trouble reading words written in block capitals,
like I used when I was 4 years old.

Nope, point not missed, the key point that you so carefully highlighted is
ALMOST......almost what? 1 run might loss might as well be 1000, in the end
the result is the same, NZ LOST...

Now go back to your sheep!

And Vettori's dropped catch? And the other life Hayden received? This
list of possible what ifs goes on and on. i.e. Vettori's 10 overs were
huge, but in the other direction. Had he gone for even 5 an over then
there's no way NZ gets close to threatening Oz. Ultimately the rain
coming when it did, disrupting NZs flow, played as big a role as any
player in affecting the final outcome IMO.

MoM was Vettori. (1/34 in a score of 343)
1st runner up Oram. (has brought life back into NZ and the series)
2nd runner up Ponting. (100+ is just standard stuff for him)

NEVER in OD cricket history was a player given PoTM for a performance like
Vettoris with JUST ONE WICKET.
