al 190/5 in a full day's play, Fredericks 98no. Arthur Fagg was so bored

venue of which was one of those incredibly annoying out-of-town spots so far
from civilisation that one couldn't receive cricket commentary on a

But New Zealand ended up beating England for the first time in a match
in that series, and it finished 1-1. Quite an achievement.

attendee. The famous Lillee/Miandad incident was part of the 1st day's
play I can clearly recall, which was part of this match:

(broken in the finals of that season). Bruce Laird, who was regarded as
a fairly stodgy player, unleashed a fine array of shots in that game,
although by today's standards his scoring would be considered slow. By

phenomenal effort.

humdrum match between Qld and SA, although I was impressed by the speed
of Rodney Hogg from side-on. More than the batting efforts of Border
and Wessels, who were fairly pedestrian by comparison (although heavy
scoring). I think the reason why I attended this game was because my
father knew that if he took me to the ground after 3, there was no
charge for entry. And although he claimed to know all the players, he
never introduced me to any of them (including India's coach) except for
Carl Rackemann in his underwear.

I am fairly sure I was there on the Sunday (Nov 25), since I recall
Lawson's bowling as well as Boon's debut. I also spoke to John Dyson
(fully clothed) or he spoke to me. I think it was along the lines of,
'get back all you kids'. The day was interrupted by rain, and we went
home, even though play was restarted about 1/2 an hour after we left. I
can vividly recall a mountainous pile, a veritable Ayers Rock, of beer
cans which were collected during the interruption, and the liberal
hurling of (empty) cans around at the slightest disturbance. Also the
shrill wolf-whistly cries from the hill if anything vaguely female
passed by it.

Cricket laws are FUCKED UP. No one human being should have as much power as
