Spot-fixing: Don't question IPL's credibility over some
greedy players, says BCCI

PTI
Friday, May 17, 2013

The BCCI today said that it was doing its bit to curb the
menace of corruption in the game but it has its own
limitations and one should not question the credibility
of the IPL due to the latest spot-fixing scandal.

Temperamental paceman S Sreesanth, spinners Ankeet Chavan
and Ajit Chandila were arrested by the Delhi Police
yesterday on the charges of spot-fixing in at least three
matches of the ongoing IPL season.

Spot fixing: Sreesanth moves court for copy of FIR

"Nobody can deny what happened. We wont sit and allow
this to happen. What is impact of it.. let's see what
happens. Allegations have to be proved, players too have
rights. IPL is still credible, there are allegations and
we will get to the bottom of it," BCCI President N
Srinivasan told a news channel.

"This is a clear indication of risk. They are Ranji and
Test players. It is not as if they did not know what's
wrong and still went ahead. It looks greed has taken
over. It seems three players have fallen pray," the BCCI
chief said.

Not so fast jzf. The ipl is a credible alternative to cricket. I was
watching the English pro40 league on tv. It felt like I was the only
person watching.
Someone was posting stills of the bangles zim games and there was not
a single fucker in the stands not a single person watching the test
match. I'm sure there was some peeps watching, but the amount of wide
open unoccupied seating was crazy. T20 different story, not a seat to
be had, and at the end there wasn't a dry eye in the house! Alright I
don't know for sure I only saw the stills -

The IPL maybe but the BCCI in a position where it can call the shots
is way unhealthy, given the number of politicians and politician-like
people who are near the reins. Even ardent BCCI supporters can't deny
that they've in the past shown trappings of power getting the better
of them.

I've also noticed that they don't seem to 'push' in some matters -
umpires, e.g. Virtually no Indian international umps for many years
now.

It could be a matter of cost. BCCI seem a bit tight at times.
