Hi,

Two observations from the F'bad test:

1. There seems to be a very enterprising face painter who has a roaring
business! He seems to be going around the ladies stand painting faces
of school-college girls. My wife and I thought it was an interesting
profession. Imagine someone introducing him at a wedding or other
family gathering -

"Huzur yeh Ahmed saheb hain."
"Aadab. Aap karte kya hain, janaab?"
"Janaani ke cheheroan par paint marta hoon ji." [In Mumbai that would
be "Chaavi ke thopde pe color maarlela hoon, kya."]

2. What is it with Faisalabad and those heavily made up glamorous women
cops/air-force cadets or whatever? Did they hire some models or
something? Even the cameraman seems smitten by them.

Cheers
Arun

Heh. Watching the game with the wife, eh? Same here. My wife's burning
question is, what is written in Urdu on the star that is the PCB's
emblem? Is it just "Pakistan" or is it something else? (See
http://www.icc-cricket.com/icc/members/pakistan.html)

-Samarth.

Yes it does say Pakistan

It is Pakistan, written in a highly calligraphic form. Pa + K would
typically not be joined. Also, ta + N would not be joined. Also,
there's a missing S ( the logo seems to have extended k). The i part is
written by two dots below the letter, but that is missing as well.
[Often, zer, zabar and pesh are not written since the assumption is
that the reader knows the word. :-)]

Someone more familiar with Urdu may have more to write on this topic.

Speaking of spellings, I love the cute misspellings in the stadium.
- Imperil cricket club [probably says a lot about its financial
condition.]

Michael Holding when they showed these cops on TV: "I'd like to get arrested
today."
