Coz Kolkata definitely is not a flat track but an even paced pitch and
it
has something for the seamers coupled with swing from the coastal
city and Steyn can do lot of damage here...Kolkata has been a good
hunting ground for the Safricans against India.

Ya I remember they won here in 96...Kluesener took 8-for on debut and
won the man of the match. But the player of the match for me was
Azza...he made Sachin look mortal that day. The first over after lunch
he hit Kluesener for 5 fours continuously
But, I don't think SA will do much this time around.

from a flat newlands track.....any support for seamers from the pitch
and they will make merry...it required BCCI to provide a rank

Well you maybe right...but I think u are underestimating our guys.
They'll not find it easy by any stretch of imagination to do much
here. I'd think Paul Harris may be a trump card. Steyn is coming back
from an injury. Morkel so-so. Ntini is almost over. Ya the new guys
can be a good lottery...we haven't seen them and India has been known
to make debuts special for all and sundry.

I'd be more concerned about the fresh faces because India has
historically helped bowlers make dream debuts. By now they would've
worked out Steyn. Morkel, and Ntini....I don't mean our guys will
demolish them but our guys will not be walkovers either. It'll be
tough no doubt. However, I think India holds the edge

If India has worked out Steyn, im sure England would have worked out
Steyn and Morkel coz they played both of them in the series previous
to last summer in England. Not to mention Australia who faced Steyn in
home and away series but Steyn got their measure in both the series.
Brother, test cricket dosen't work like that. Your hero Kapil took
wicket after wicket against the same teams time and again coz he was a
great test bowler in the period between 1979 and 1984. Steyn and
Morkel are in the best rhythm of their careers right now and not easy
to handle.
I never told that it will be walkover for SA. I only said that given a
track with some assistance for the seamers, SA can push India on the
backfoot with such a wonderful bowling attack. Of course, just to
preserve the No.1 position, if India prepares underprepared turners
like that in Kanpur last time around they faced
SA in a deciding test, then nothing can defeat India. But im sure this
time BCCI will be more careful especially after the recent Delhi
fiasco and that they are hosts
of the WC going to be held within a year's time.

Besides, what a meaningless statistic. Look at Wellington: it wasn't a flat
pitch, Gambhir set up the victory with his fantastic second innings ton but

Hey but that;s something I don't agree with. Its not alright to make a
3-day dust bowl but its alright to make a 3-day swing king or a grass
bed. What more it is excellent to make a 5-day Bombay-Pune expressway.
Not that you hold that opinion but ICC needs to figure out what they
can call a bad track and what a good one. I don't see anyone
complaining about Sydney.

Presumably you were away on some sort of pilgrimage when Gambhir scored 67 &
104 v Australia at Mohali.
New formula for batting average:
runs scored / number of dismissals * number of balls Don saw.
You still haven't explained how it was Gambhir's fault that rain fell in
Wellington.

One match and you jump up and down...compare that to a few more won by
Sehwag and Sachin...Dravid and Laxman i mentioned coz of their past
reputations...somehow im not sure about gambhir doing well against top
teams like Aus and South Africa as well as he does against crap teams

Oh no I am not denying that Kanpur was made an extreme spin-friendly
pitch by design. But I don't see what is wrong with that...why not use
the home advantage when you can? In the previous Test, the match was
lost in the very first session. It is the Indian batsmen's fault that
they got out cheaply but I don't see why you cannot prepare a definite-
result pitch when you are in a must win situation. And to prepare a
definite-result pitch you can prepare a type of pitch that is possible
and easy to male in that climatic zone.
Suppose England or RSA or SL or Aus were in the same situation, they'd
have also done the same. Just that the pitch in Eng would've been more
swing friendly, SL would be a dust bowl, Aus/SA would be a grassy one.

I can understand if a turner is prepared as home advantage but
preparing
an underprepared pitch which makes the Test get over in 3 days is not

I did not see a grassy or bouncy pitch at the just concluded Test in
Newlands.

the Test could've gone on to 4 days also. It doesn't matter. The fact
that it gave us an exciting game is essential. If you are going to
prepare a result track, what's the big difference if the game goes
into the end of 3rd day or the mid of 4th day?
