Say it ain't so, Joe?

Disclaimer: Innocent until proven guilty. I hope this is all smoke sans fire. Rauf is rated as one of the best umpires around

Actually, amidst all the match-fixing and spot-fixing, it always seemed to me that the easiest way to fix an outcome of a game in huge way, was to bribe the umpire. A single player, even a skipper, can only impact a game so much. An umpire, though, that is a completely different story -- he can have a much larger impact on the game given that he is on the field the entire duration of the match... And umpires make much less money than elite players as a rule...

In games that are telecast or where decisions can be reviewed, how can
it help to bribe the ump other than on LBWs? What does an ump do in
T20s anyway?

Why does this need explaining?

For Telecast without DRS;
The umpire can give someone out when they are not, or not out when they are.

DRS requires clear evidence to overturn the ump's decision. xEye has built in margins of error. If it's within these margins, it remains with the onfield call.

On LBWs, basically, and on marginal catch decisions (to the WK or
close-in); if too obvious, he'll be under the scanner in this day and
age.

Won't that be a bit too much of a bet for bookies? I think they need a
lot more certainty than such events. A bowler (in terms of conceding
some free runs) or batter (for getting out at a particular time) are a
lot more certain.
