The picture at the link is from the opening credits to "Malcolm in the Middle." The boxer on the right accidentally punched the referee and knocked him out. He's from Cuba and the boxer on the left might be from Canada. Looks like a leaf on his shirt. Does anyone know the details?

The Canadian boxer (DeWitt) went on to stop the Cuban boxer in this match IIRC, but don't know his name, Funny thing is I remember the refs name was Bert something while I can't remember where my car keys are sometimes :-|
Maybe Mel would know the details.

I caught this fight on videotape years ago. I've since looked for it but can't find it. Yes it was Willie DeWitt and the Cuban fighter knocked the Ref out cold (he was trying to break them up) .. he didn't even try and break his fall on the way down because his lights were totally out!

Yes, I know who the ref was and, along with not being able to find my keys either, can't remember his last name. He was a terrible amateur ref and it took Canada some years to finally get rid of him. He never lived down his being KOd. He came to a So. Calif. tournament many years ago with one of the Canadian teams. He was awful! Even the Canadian boxers and coaches were embarrassed by his lack of skills.

The bout took place in June, 1982 in Las Vegas at the North American Championships. DeWit won by RSC (KO) in the second round. The referee was Bert Lowes from Vancouver (he was awful!).

And thanks to you Mel and everyone else who helped on this one. I know this question has come up before and never really answered. Tillman always stuck in my head but it just didn't sound right...
The Internet is great because you can usually find interested people who can help you find what you need to know.
Thanks for your comment about my site, Mel. A similar discussion arose from a composite photo I made from a 1954 movie clip. The picture and link to the discussion are here: http://dualmoments.com/prelinger/conniemack.htm
About Tillman:
DeWit fought Tillman a number of times in his amateur and pro career. The following is about the 1984 Olympics and comes from "sportsbookmagazine.com":
"DeWit faced American Henry Tillman in the heavyweight final. Tillman, who learned to box while in prison for armed robbery, had defeated a then-unknown Mike Tyson in the U.S. Olympic trials. DeWit had beaten Tillman in their two previous meetings but was upset by the American in a unanimous decision."
I read elsewhere that that decision was controversial.
I think DeWit's final pro fight was against Tillman. He won that one. He then went on to become a partner in a law firm in Alberta, Canada.
