well you're right of course-----and even a piece or two before the
fight as well...... prognostication indeed! But serously man ,i'll
tell you, it really pisses me off reading the various forums (and even
fighter' comments, a la De La Hoya) to see that everyone has an excuse
for what manny's accomplished. But last night he laid back on the
ropes and ate Cotto's body shots and went right at him and ate his
uppercuts and hooks there as well.....but he never buckled even though
he definitely got hit and hurt. Then he proceeded to gradually take
Cotto apart in a manner not unlike Hatton (with the left AND the right
and Cotto looking like he knew it was over), and make no mistake, this
fight could've been stopped at almost any given point beyond the 6th.
Tomorrow I'll be reading a variety of opinions something on the level
of how Margarito and the catch-weight gave Cotto no
chance...........but it's all bullshit!!!!!!!! Cotto beats most anyone
on the night, just not Pacquiao who really has changed the rules of
the good big man beats the great little man, and the great big man
slaughters the good little man......it's like having a Babe Ruth alive
and well in your time, and a societal paradigm that shits all over it
as it passes right before their eyes.
Don't get too worked up about it, Dan. The overwhelming majority of
boxing fans, including fans of Cotto, realize what happened. It's
only a few idiots on boxing forums (like the absurd one at
eastsideboxing.com), and a few embarrassed boxing writers whose
prognostications were wrong and are looking to make excuses. Almost
everyone else, including almost all that picked Cotto, realize today
that Manny has achieved legendary status.
Cotto was in shape and beats or fights very well against any other
welterweight last night. Manny is like some sort of boxing Bruce Lee.
Pacman is great, I think he would win against Roberto Duran and
Salvator Sanchez at their best -
Cotto doesn't have the skill of great champions.
Pacman style reminds me of Aron Pryor, I don't know how he can handle
Thomas Hearn who
is 8'' taller than himself.
I agree Pacman is as great as Sugar Ray Robinson, glad I don't see the
fight, too bloody
