Tony, most of us are behind you and truly wish you the greatest of success
at the Championships.
You have just run into just one ("Tommy T") of 25+ alternate identities of
the BIGGEST FLAMER and LEAST WORTHWHILE POSTER on RSB, whose true identity
is "Fast Larry" Guninger/Grindinger.
I see you are using Microsoft Outlook Express as your newsreader.
1. Left-click once on one of his messages to "highlight" it.
2. Left-click once on "Message" in the maim menu bar at the top of your
screen.
3. Left-click once on "Block Sender"
4. ACCEPT all options that appear afterward on your screen.
The next time you log on to ANY newsgroup (RSB, or whatever), Outlook
Express will NOT download any message from "Tommy T's" email address.
You will wind up having to do this about 25 more times for various
identities and a couple other flamers, as well, over the next couple of
weeks. It's worth the effort, though, because RSB actually DOES have a lot
of good information from well-respected posters.
The BEST advice I can give is NOT to engage in ANY conversation with this
poster -- he is on the border of insanity and you CANNOT win an argument
with him, as you will be functioning within his own imaginary universe. He
will insult you in any way he can to win a point -- this will piss you off
enough to make you quit participating in this newsgroup.
However, if you refuse to acknowledge him in any way and proceed with the
filtering I suggested, above, your participation here will be rewarding
indeed. Don't worry about what he posts. Most of us have him filtered into
our "killfiles" anyway and don't ever see anything he writes unless someone
else quotes him, as you just did.
In most cases, We don't listen to anybody who has anything positive to
comment about anything he may have written. For this reason, your
reputation CANNOT be destroyed in this newsgroup, rather, it can only be
enhanced. However, if you DO get sucked into his flame war, it is very
possible that he can manipulate you into making some offhand comment that
WILL besmirch your own reputation!
You are a champion in your discipline. You have a long and well-documented
record. You have NOTHING to prove. AND, you are fairly new to this group,
so sit back, relax and watch what goes on -- pretty soon, you will know who
consistently posts meaningful and pool-related thoughts and ideas, and
conversely, who consistently insists upon engaging in useless and
destructive diatribe.

working fine right now, but he does get off the booze once or twice a
year and create a bunch of new aliases. This is copied from my
Thunderbird filter, and I can help you paste it in if you use the same
program, otherwise just consider it a reference. His posts get pretty
easy to spot after a while, but there are one or two others who enjoy
baiting him, so I've got them included also. None of the rest of us
here are racists, so you can spot "Fast" Larry pretty quickly.
