Well, taking your back to the busy surgeon (think car mechanic analogy)
needs an addendum -- make sure he's a good golfer too. Mine needs a
mulligan on my back (tee time 3:45PM tomorrow). It seems that the "cage"
that acts as a spacer between my vertebra that were fused (10 weeks ago)
has decided to come loose and slide up against the root of my sciatic
nerve. Fortunately only causing excruciating pain only when I'm in a
non-horizontal position :(

He's confident I will make a(nother) full recovery in a matter of days.
It's little solace that he's only had this happen in a handful of the
4-5000 surgeries he's done though....

Anyway, just announcing my disappearance in advance since last time I
disappeared for a while this place went apeshit about it :D If I'm
not back in a week, I got a permanent gig racking for Willie and Irving's
race to a trillion!

Wow, that sucks Mark. Best of luck on the (next) surgery. The current
situation sounds very painful.

Glad to see you're able to keep your sense of humour.

Good luck Mark. 2 out of the last 3 surgeries I've had, had to be "re-
done" also. It sucks for sure.

Holy sheet! It came loose -- that's unbelievable.

I feel your pain. Actually, not to anywhere near what you're going
through. About a week a go I strained some back muscles working in the
garden and I'm just now getting over it. A couple of nights ago I was in
a hotel in Indianapolis and sat up in the middle of the night to sip
some water and suddenly it felt like someone stabbed me in the back.
The pain didn't subside for hours. Never had anything like that, but
I''m guessing that's something like what you're going through.

Good luck with the surgery.

This one's a freebie, though, right? After all it was his mistake.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and full and quick recovery. Willie
and Irving don't need you as a rack boy - Fats has that job.

Well Fats got to keep the racking gig. Willie's still bitching about the
balls being loose for *his* racks though.

Apparently, I had managed to keyhole the 6mm hole in my L5 vertebra up to
almost 8mm-- which of course caused everything else to loosen and the
titanium cage to slide back into my sciatic nerve root. Guess I don't
have a 'warranty work' claim. :) I tell ya though, judging by my
pre-surgery pain levels when I was upright, I can see why people decide
they would rather die then go on. The pain was virtually intolerable --
even the good drugs didn't cut it. Thank God I got relief when I lay flat.

My surgery could not have gone better. They loosened up the scaffolding,
pulled the cage out completely, ran an 8mm screw into the socket they
created last time, tightened everything back up, and closed me back up.
Took 'em maybe an hour and a half tops.

I feel great now. I'm gonna pay way more attention to what I lift and how
I bend (I'm not bending!) -- and of course wear the damn brace for another
month. Last time I was doing so well when he told me I didn't *have* to
wear the brace if I didn't want to, I quit wearing it completely. Live
and learn.

Now as long as my alignment fix wasn't corrected by the key-holing last
time I should be back on track. :D

Thanks to all for all the kind words and encouragement. I just have to
build my strength back up and just like Fast Eddie, I'll be baaaa-ack.

Glad to hear it went well Mark.

Just curious, do you shoot pool in a very low position, close to the
cue? If so, does that bother your back?

Great news Mark. Glad to hear that all went well. I'm sure that Fats is
relieved. They won't let him play with the big boys til he grows up, so
he's relegating for racking. And with that, is it any wonder that Willie is
complaining about the balls being loose?

I don't get real low (though I will take a 'look see' at a tough cut from
that position) but I'm not upright either. Ray prolly remembers my set up
from the few times we've played. I'd be curious if I'm as down as I think
I am....
