In today's Tampa Tribune (Sat.31st) in the TV section,there's a space
called sports ON tv which lists 'todays' sports (32 shows listed) among
them are:
College Basketball
Golf
Hockey
Auto Racing
Women's Basketball
Speed Skating
Figure Skating
Softball
Horse Racing
Boxing Tennis
NO mention of 'Live' pool/billiards at 2:00p.m. e.s.t. There
JUST have to be more pool players than 'speed skaters' OR 'women
basketball players'. IMO

Is anyone surprised? I've tried to talk to the Sports Editors at our major
daily. They don't consider pool a sport. They are never going to cover
billiard events, on TV, locally, or otherwise, unless they get educated to
pool.
I'm sure there are some exceptions to this around the country, but they are
few and far between. If we ever want to get coverage in the sports section
of our Newspaper, we have to educate these sports editors.
Either this will have to be done on a one-on-one basis, by locals that have
knowledge about what is going on in the billiard world, or on a National
level, maybe by the BCA. Actually, the best idea would be to do it both
ways.
Lastly, it won't do any good to educate these Sports Editors unless there
are also local organizations around to keep them up to date on what is
going on in the local and national pool arena.

The matches will be on the big screen at my establishment this afternoon
and the music will be shut off. I have several local players passing the
word around and perhaps we'll have a big party during and afterwards.
We're all pulling for our Texas boy, CJ Wiley, and I'll be watching to
find Mike from Beach Club anywhere in the crowd. (Hi mike, yes I'm still
alive and still not using a break cloth! : ) )
Later on I'll sit down and read the 4 million posts we'll all write on how
much we enjoyed Pool's first live telecast.
