Semeka Randall, April's Lady Vol teammate, was recognized as the
area's "Outstanding Collegiate Athlete" at last night's Cleveland Sports
Awards banquet. Semeka, who graduated from nearby Trinity High,
delivered a message via videotape in lieu of risking Pat Summitt's
disciplinary wrath by attending.
Sharron Francis, whose Old Dominion Lady Monarchs lost to the Lady
Vols Sunday and to Rutgers last night, leads off today's short birthday
list as she turns 21. Arizona Wildcat Jen Chesney is 19.

AKRON, Ohio- Led by 12 three-pointers and 50% shooting from the field,
Eastern Michigan (11-8, 4-4 MAC) overpowered the Zips on its way to an
89-58 victory Wednesday night at JAR Arena. Akron dropped to 3-16
overall, 1-7 in MAC play.
"She (EMU head coach Suzy Merchant) has several players capable of
hitting the three and it makes it hard to defend," said Akron head coach
Roxanne Allen.
The Eagles took a two-point lead with 18:15 to play, 6-4, and would
never look back on their way to a 43-28 halftime advantage. Jamie Scott
would score six of Akron's first 10 points and finished the game with 10
points and 10 rebounds, her second-consecutive double-double.
Eastern Michigan's Kristy Maska led all scorers with 19 points after a
5-for-9 performance from the three-point arc. Akron managed just one
three, from Jamie Krivak, which made the score 77-55 in EMU's favor with
5:45 remaining in the game. The Eagles answered right back with a three
from Dru Bishop.
Sandy Martin led Akron with 12 points, while Cheryl Bowles picked up
her second double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Kimberly Larson tied her career high with four points in six minutes of
play.
Akron will travel to Athens, Ohio this Saturday to face the Bobcats of
Ohio. Tip time is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Convo.
