You KNOW Byron Scott signed with the Lakers soley
because of Shaq, right? Even one cheesehead want
to argue that point? Anyone doubt that Byron is falling
asleep each night with a woody, thinking about all those
open 3 point shots he is going to get? He will be the NBA's
next Dennis Scott. Anyway, now that he has returned to the Lakers,
they've closed their one weakness--perimeter shooting.
This team will mangle the Bulls.

That's why Byron bought a house in San Juan Capistrano eight years ago.
He knew that Shaq was a "done deal" for 96-97, and that this would be
what it would take to come back to the Lakers. Incidentally, this also
proves that Jerry West didn't tamper, because at the time he did it
(eight years ago when Shaq was in high school), Shaq was, technically,
not Orlando's property yet.
BTW, wouldn't Dennis Scott be the new Byron Scott? So that would make
Byron Scott the new new Byron Scott?

Um, I will. Byron wanted to return to LA and end where he began. He
took less money from LA to come to the team. Sure, I imagine he's
pretty pleased with Shaq's presence, but I'd bet he'd have wanted
to come to the team even if Shaq hadn't signed.

He hasn't actually MADE the team yet. The Lakers roster is mighty
full, and Byron may need to be trimmed off the
roster (or more likely, will develop one of those mysterious
sets of back spasms).

ROTFL. Who thought playing for the Grizzlies could do so much for one
player? He's reinvented himself twice over...;-)

Just read an article where both Kersey and Scott say they
took the league minimum salary for a chance to win the title
and play with Shaq. Shaq Effect baby. Deal.
Told you.
Gotta love that attitude by both those vets. Kersey will work
his ass of for the Lakers. I hope he gets his ring finally.
He deserves it.

Can you say "Phoenix West"?

In all the hype of the Shaq Effect, you overlook the equally
powerful LJ effect. The Knicks' acquisition of LJ lead to the signing
of Allan Houston, which led to the signing of Chris Childs, which lead
to Buck Williams signing because he wanted to win a championship. Wait
a minute. If Buck wanted to win a title, why didn't he sign with the
Lakers? LJ Effect.

We got the other guy from Portland. Kersey was his name. I think it
comes down to the Old Portland loser's effect, wherein all of the
remnants of those teams should be in the finals... It's scary... Except
maybe Duckworth. ;)
