And PLEASE do the same.
Absolutely no one, on the internet or in real life, likes this Pete
Rose fetish twit. And no one wants to ever see anything written by him
again, even if it is someone else responding to him pre-school-level
mentality. Just kill-file the brain-damaged child.
Thank you.

Don't know much about shotguns, but unlike Ty Cobb, Pete's got some
rings. AND while he got in a couple fights, they were never against
handicapped fans. He belongs in the Hall more than many who are
already there, including Cobb. No one ever accused Peter Edward of
taking any body altering substances. Check Babe Ruth's statistics from
1920-1928 and tell me he didn't.

Sorry to respond to my own post, but Hank Aaron was MUCH better for
Milwaukee baseball TWICE than Selig could ever be.

I'm certainly glad that these aren't Hammerin' Hank's last words,
especially given all the "dear n*****" letters he got in the seventies.

Rose himself said that he took amphetamines. IIRC, it was in a Sports
Illustrated interview. There really weren't any rules prohibiting
performance enhancing drugs at the time.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there a substantial difference between
amphetamines, methamphetamines, and crystal-meth?

I ask because in the Agassi fallout of this past week I've heard both
him and Martina Navratilova refer to CM as a non-PED, at least on the
tennis court. I thought CM wires you up a bit which seems like it
would be an advantage in sports... but perhaps not so much with a
demanding sport like tennis vs. baseball.

And, since it has been proven time and time again that amphetamines
inhibit performance, just think of what could have been?

What the fuck body altering substances do you imagine were available
to Babe Ruth in 1920-28. I don't argue against the idea that Pete is a
better human being than Ty Cobb but that's setting the pass/fail line
awfully low. One might have to cut Cobb some slack for the fact that
his mother shot his father but he was still a monster.

Pete will get in when he dies. That's good enough for him.

Ha! Cocaine? If cocaine can enhance preformance then
we would have seen Ruth's 715 and 60 homers shattered
along time ago. Why hasn't Darryl Strawberry broken all
of Ruth's records? If anything, from 1920-28, if Ruth
would have eaten better, quit drinking and stopped
living the high life. One can only imagine what his stats
would be.
Babe Ruth is still the yardstick that all other ballplayers
are measured by...

Cocaine wouldn't alter his physique. It wouldn't improve his abilities
except possibly, and only possibly, while he was actually high on it.
And it's a short high. Coke is a lot like speed, although I like speed
better. It makes you feel ten feet tall and it does make it easier to
ignore pain or fatigue. But it would probably _harm_ your eye-hand
coordination, although you wouldn't think so. I am sure Ruth used coke
but I doubt that it factored into his baseball performance positively.
If he had been playing football, while speed would be better, coke
would have helped him.

That would depend on dietary habits.

It wouldn't improve his abilities
> except possibly, and only possibly, while he was actually high on it.

You don't have to be a snortin' fiend to have enhanced abilities.
Even actors and actresses throughout the 1920s realized the benefits
of cocaine as it helped increase their alertness and energy to deal
with long hours on the set. You might say that there's no business
like snow business.

You can get that effect by using very small doses of cocaine or
chewing the unprocessed coca leaf. While it is possible that Ruth did
this it does not fit in with the impression we have of his nature. He
didn't have that kind of self-control. If he was going to do coke, he
was gonna do COKE.

You can get the same sort of improvement by using small doses of
speed, a drug which Pete admitted to using. So Pete may have used a
PED as well. At least by that logic.

You can't say that for sure. An impression of any dead person, recent
or otherwise, is highly debatable. Books, movies, hearsay, etc., all
of it is debatable.
