Well, I dunno about that - I mean, I'm sure once the D level got
raised to 500 minimum you'da been cranking the jumps up to 500 asap
'cause you wouldn't like it if some D with a higher number had more
jumps than you. Yeah, thrn you'd be explaining the real difference
between 200 jump D's and 500 jump D's and you know? I'll bet the
descriptions would switch poles right about the moment you got to the

the wings and gets them. Cool.
Another guy makes X number of jumps doing whatever (including some
jumps where some sort of compensation was involved) sends off for the
wings and gets them. Cool.
Wings are for jumps. Not jump A or jump B (or any other politically
correct designation describing or validating the jump to some lone
pinhead). Jump's a jump. You go up and flail, it's a jump. Turn
some hot points, a jump. Freefly, crewfun, bandit someone
unsuspecting into their first 8way star, Horny gorilla - all jumps.
Even taking a student up or a tandem or someone on a SkyU, or aiming a
camera - jumps to me. Only politically correct morons would try to
conclude otherwise and only those same politically correct morons
would worry about it, try to change the subject because they don't
agree with the argument's conclusion, or even imagine someone falling
from the sky, out of an aircraft, with a parachute, solely because
that person may not be jumping in a fashion which that politically
correct moron deems as not rightous (I.E - in a fashion the
politically correct moron was never able to accomplish himself) could
ever imagine that such activity did not somehow constitute a jump.
Guess I'll send off for all the wings I got coming afterall...and ya

where an agreed upon service was provided in the process - they were
still jumps. Hell, by your standards the only jumps are the ones

signed off...after ya got off student status like most of the people around a
dz then he wud jump with ya for free.

the price of a jump ticket to pay for the video geeks lift ticket. Most video
types were DZ staff and they went for it because it was better than cutting
grass or picking up trash...not every tom dick and harry was walking around
with video equipment panhandling back then...people like Russ Web and Ted
Slaughter did it for pratice & love of the art...bring a blank tape to dub off
their master hell they were on the jump anyway...you little city hussy give
those sheep their money back ;-/

Bullcrap - class costs something, one or two jm's costs something,
the lift ticket costs something and that carries across any program
where class and lift tickets are involved.

And specials like that are a regular fixture as well. Manifest by a
certain time and receive your jumps for less or buy a bunch of tickets
at once at a discount or make a certain number of jumps in a day and
get an extra ticket or pay a certain amount and jump all you can or
show up on a certain day and get a discount - all of this is nothing
new, and I'm not jut talking boogies - talking regular day to day
operations, and it's certainly nothing that has been discontinued.

I've borrowed dz gear and was there a rental fee? Uh uh. Usually you
just have to ask and get permission. After I got off student status
at Beumont but before I bought my first set of gear, normally I'd pay
the gear rental once for one jump at the beginning of the day ($20 at
the little Cessna dz in the mid 90's) and if it wasn't too busy and
they didn't need the rig, I had that rig all day and if I made 1 jump
- $20. If I made 5 jumps - still $20 - for the day, not per jump. Of
course, if you had ever spent a day at a dz you'd know all this but
your imagination is far more comforting for you than reality.

Well how about that - at a dz where pretty much the entire staff is
there only part-time, I too am on staff. I don't get a salary,
there's not a demand that I be at the dz at a certain time on a
certain date - all they ask is that if things are busy and I happen to
be there, to go up and help out as I feel like it - and to do a good
job. If I were doing skydiving vid for a living, it would be the same
gig with the same expectations though I'm sure I'd shoot a lot more
tandems and AFF than I normally do.

fantasy again - the bitter pill of having blundered yourself out of
the sport is so much easier to force down if you imagine that it's all

it sucks - but the way you imagine it is, is not the way it is. Get
to a dz but only if you can handle the truth which, as has often been
clearly aparent here, you can't.

Sounds familiar - as a matter of fact, that's exactly what goes on.
You got the tape and I got the vid and you can have a dub, no charge,
no obligation for a tip, not even a demand for a beer though I might
ask if they have another if they're holding one and mine's dry.
That's just the way it is but reality is not for you - you're so much
happier thinking what you got spit out of is no big loss to you.

Shut the fuck up Rick! Just because you have probably three to four
times the years in the sport than Jimmy ever had, just because you got
a lower D# than Jimmy, just because you got more airtime than Jimmy
has just riding in the airplane, just because you never lost altitude
awareness and ate a runway as a result, just because you didn't send
in for your D before you had even ungeared from your 200th jump for
the immediate boost in status like Jimmy did, just because you've
forgotten more about skydiving than he ever learned, and just because
you're still skydiving today and he isn't anymore doesn't mean Jimmy's
a highly stupid newbie or that if he had listened to experienced
people like you when he was skydiving he wouldn't have had the
reputation for being a dangerous idiot and possibly might well have
been able to return to skydiving on a regular basis!!!
