Taken over? Hardly. Just ignore the bots efforts. Although it is a
little discouraging to have to tunnel through hundreds of posts, I
find it a little better than the unknown flailers' ramblings. Tom

At least Jerry and I fight about one aspect driving the sport, no one
likes to acknowledge ~ego's~ and overlooked video geek licensing
issues to work around students & unlicensed skydivers on his & the
BOD's part. These bots have nothing to do with skydiving. I'm glad my
sea stories and opinions make Tom uncomfortable, he took some sailors
stateside shore duty. A sailor who probably had to spent his hitch on
a Minesweeper or stuck on some pacific atoll destroying left over WWII
stuff would probably like to stick a blasting cap up Speck-4 tom's
ass. Pissing the Army slacker off is the least I can do for a unknown
shipmate. Besides I wore the brassard & badge of a MAA most of my
military service besides fulfilling my Bosuns rate being a knuckle
dragger and all like some have accused me of. Toms guilty of

Nope, some little passive/aggressive computer geek who wouldn't make a
pimple on a terrorists ass because he or she is badly out of shape
from to much junk food & also probably afraid of death. BTW nut, empty
or partially fueled tanks are more dangerous to passengers & crew than
full ones---People targeted on the ground or in buildings that are
hard to get out of are the only ones that need to sweat big fuel
loads, as the 747's get older & evolve through more & more takeoff &
landing cycles the wiring cracks and deteriorates, sensors corrode and
go bad etc etc etc. The NTSB finally concluded thats what probably
knocked the one out of the sky that left New York's JFK years ago---

Say, I remember reading that notification, too. Do you remember who

I'm not sure you can "adjust" your reader, as the bot switches nyms
and domains with every post. There is a killfile available for googles
newsreader, but you'd still need to identify your target.

It's just a garden variety Hipcrime event on usenet, and this was
rec.skydiving's week (among others--there were a number of groups
besides this one that were hit). I sincerely doubt the Scientologists
have anything
to do with it.

I would avoid taking for granted that Wikipedia always has the facts.

The poster threatened to render rec.skydiving useless. That's like
threatening to make the Pope Catholic.

The noise to signal ratio is about the same as it usually is these days.

If there was a way to filter out posters that haven't made a jump in years -
and likely never will again - there might be hope. As it stands, this
newsgroup has become entirely irrelevant.

What the hell, it was fun while it lasted.

Where are the Fort Campbell graduates from the 1950's? All dead or in
nursing homes? Everything was consolidated at Columbus Ga. to save a

Since the response bypassed my killfile, I'll address the previous post.

My point here is that Jimmy Smith appears to have nothing to do but sit
around and flood the newsgroup with drivel. It has been so long since he
has been in the air that just about none of the things about which he is
concerned matter at all. It's like walking around wearing an "Impeach
Nixon!" buton - it may be an amusing novelty for a few seconds, but it is
fundamentally pointless and out of date.

This newsgroup used to be the one place where one could expect to find the
most current information about people and events in the sport. There was
always the odd thread about something or another that had nothing much to do
with the sport, but you did not have to dig through page after page of
drivel to find something of interest.

Now a perusal of Google shows that the newsgroup is little more than an
outlet for Jimmy Smith in his dotage, and a place for people to reflexively
point out (quite accuratly) that he's full of shit coming and going.

It is a shame that my technical education renders me incapable of
distinguishing a Manet from a Matisse, or telling Beethoven from Chopin, or
reading anything more erudite than a technical manual - but I can certainly
tell that the bulk of what shows up on this newsgroup these days is
nonsense.

Better men than I have been telling Jimmy Smith to STFU for years now, to no
effect. My point about people who don't jump anymore was pretty much
directed at him. The point was not so much that people who do not jump are
irrelevant, just that he is and has been for years.

Even if Jimmy Smith was to stop posting today, the damage is done. This
newsgroup has been the cyber-equivalent of a septic tank long enough that I
doubt if it could ever recover.

I don't check this newsgroup often, since the likelihood that there will be
something of even passing interest borders on zero. What I can't figure out
is why anyone would even bother to stage a sporge attack. Jimmy Smith has
been flooding this newsgroup with drivel more effectively than any bot
could, and he has been doing it for years. He's a one-man denial-of-service
system.

Blue skies,

Winsor

So, if you can't create a airtight kill file go over to DZ dot com and
help Winsor moderate the sheep because it seems to be about control
issues with many of you young twerps, you always did go for the gravy
jobs anyway. This place is and always has been for difficult people

Enough income to pay the bills and lead a comfortable life.....All

Navy Waves and civilian PWC workers all those years and all the time
it was Army Speck-4's hiding on Navy bases trying to avoid hardship

And as usual, you have it fucked up, you left out paint chipper, boat

Officer led it. Cookie?
You consider K.P. cooking? Co Van was about what I was best at.....had

something they put Petty Officers on who were waiting on orders or for

surprised at knowing more about the USMC than you knew about the Navy.

Throat slasher? I was either on a Sampan or walking the C.P. position

Don't remember Bob, but definitely remember Dumlap, seems like he was
OIC of the Halo section before Chuck Whittle took over. Can't find my
first logbook right now, but Arvin Briscoe was NCOIC I think. They were
in the same building as the rigger shop.

Yeah, send his addy, just change my return address to dsluter from
donno. I got to Oki in early 1967, and left in March '68. Don't
remember Bland, but a bunch of guys left about the time I got there.
Bardsley was NCOIC at the time, and a few names that come to mind are

Croman - its been a long time. I'll dig up my logbook and get a few more

I found something that would probably work, however I would have to

It was simple enough....get on to Google newsgroups, go to rec.
skydiving, create a account. Click the star beside any header you want
to follow, it go's to your favorite list, then anytime someone
response to it, part of the post with the senders I.D. will appear on
your "My Goggle" page, click it and you go right to the thread.

Also suggested he go to yahoo, get a account and change his handle and
e-mail address. That will screw up any of the anal fliers filters, You
know they just have to be anal about a raving nut....no telling how
many kill files the kids in tsk tsk. For some reason these sporge
attacks don't clutter the shit out of individual threads----the bots
just bury them with their own preprogrammed threads they've down
loaded from elsewhere, pushing them to the bottom with sheer numbers.

Well, if you want to validate the disdain that has been shown for George
Rabe and his memory, engaging in a sporge attack in his name is the way to
do it.

If, OTOH, you were to conduct yourself as the picture of a class act in any
activities related to his memory, that would be a different story.

You are not going to erase the memories of George Rabe's sleazier actions,
but you might, over time, temper them with the thought that maybe he was not
all bad.

Treating a dead newsgroup as an electronic septic tank in his name is pretty
much guaranteed to lock in the concept of George Rabe=dead scumbag.

Your call.

Yeh, an' y'all made a great decision to go up when yew could've looked

I planned to get them steaks, but the dropzone was on the way out,
and , It was good manners to go by and ask everyone if they needed
anything,
and, they were ready to load just needed a few extra bodiesto fly it,
and i was already packed,,,
and, there was a pretty good load of old guys ready to load, some
guys that have not jumped together in many years,,
and, we saw a hole,
and, we felt lucky.

AND, Quite frankly, I felt WE could get away with it without Lucky

jumping a Beech 99 (fun) He wanted to know if we could be there. I
told him to ask John, he's the boss, I'm just the bitch... (grin)

Get off the step before lighting strikes the plane, if you make it to
the ground without the plane following you like in that imagined stall
a few months ago,
stay away from tree's, get in a ditch or lay flat----Lightening may be
stalking you. HAHAHAHAHAHA ;->

i WASN'T lieing about dat chit. Dont run for the door, cause you
can't,, and iffing you can get outside, so the puck what. you're
outside where the outside of the plane can hit you instead of the
inside of the plane hitting you. Its something I thought about. I
would take the same action again.

Didn't think you were, thought it might be a form of the DT's, let me
know if you see big hairy bugs on the cabin wall, till then bend your
knees and put those heels up on your butt to pull away from stalking
planes. ;)

Yeah I wouldn't advise jumping into a storm front, John Hill and I did
it once over at the old Leauge City DZ. The Otter was bouncing around,
pilot sez.....Anybody wants out, go now or ride it down. Soon as we
got out on the step it started sleeting, let go and the Otter fell
below us, talk about flailing. ;) We were both back stroking in case
she bounced back up. Winds were nil at ground level, uneventful
landing, had a canopy full of sleet and red specks on my face where
sleet had hit me. Darnedest thing I ever saw----gusts raising hell at
altitude and calm on the ground. I usually packed under the tree's or
on the shady side of the hanger but made a point of going into the
hanger to shake out the canopy. Put at least a bucket of ice on the
pack mat....Anals screaming and hollering about ice crystals in the
packing area and their prissy Sabres were going to get wet. A
excellent weekend overall by my standards....I live to piss off up
tight urban sky gods with superior attitudes and small cajones! Ahhhh,
those were the days, to bad I couldn't start younger, I cudda drove
more people crazy! 0~;->

Didn't see a single skygawd at SEMO--Saw "many" young up coming
skydivers being trained properly (from the local college), and one
especial "very nice" from St Louie.
Thank gawd no fireworks ,,, and I MUST add that the blue light
special the locals performed for our pleasure was OUTSTANDING.
A good time was had by all.

THE important thing. I got out without pissing no body off.
