Rollerskis: Placement of Wheels and Cutting Bindings...
|
| |
I've been "struggling" with two questions on setting up roller-skis and would appreciate any input:
- On bindings, consensus seems to be to mount as close to rear wheel as possible (at least for classical skiing). I've got Salomon bindings and wondered about cutting off the plastic on the rear / sides of the binding--this gives me a few more centimeters to play with (cause rear plate of binding can fit between fork mounts). Just wondered if anyone has tips on cutting that plastic without cracking it....(if possible at all)... more »

rollerskiing with a "Chariot"
|
| |
Can you rollerski-skate (or double-pole) pulling a Chariot with a being inside? How much weight can you pull before the skating technique falls apart? Can you get bad habits from skating with one? How are uphills/downhils? Any comments would be appreciated.

Lake Placid rollerski
|
| |
I remember seeing Lake Placid roller ski training or racing footage on youtube. Would be a great place to test my climbing abilities. Do you have to/is it possible to tag along during such an event or can you just do it on your own? If I'm looking for a long climb, what are the roads and best time of day?... more »

Pilot "Sport" Classic Binding?
|
| |
I need bindings for new roller skis and am totally confused at what Salomon now offers for classic. The least expensive option is actually a "Sport" pilot binding that looks a lot like the skate binding (rigid piece that connects to second bar). People have described a kevlar strap as part of the race classic pilot binding, but this version looks like it doesn't have that (so might actually be an improvement for roller-skiing). I have one pair pilot, one pair old-style profil classic boots--ideally I'd like to be able to use either, depending on how much ankle support I find I need.... more »

Roll your own rollerskis
|
| |
I would like to try rollerskiing, but absolutely cannot handle the
off-the-shelf ones. For various reasons, I need ones a couple of
metres long, with ratchet wheels on the front and a REAR braking
system operated by moving my calves. There doesn't seem to be
any easy way of getting components (affordably) to build my own.... more »

Uphill only for endurance? (rollerskis)
|
| |
I really have two questions - 1) whether I should mostly use uphill for endurance training and 2) if not, how it should be combined/spaced with flats. There's usually a question about the goal. Just for the heck of it, let's say the goal is to do the shorter (27K, I think) skating event in Ottawa (Gatineau).... more »

Type of snow and glide?
|
| |
I am trying to understand the effect of snow on glide. I have read some (incomplete) lists and have seen for myself that very cold snow has poor glide. I am wondering what the glide potential is for the different types of snow.
Potential glide:
1) like sand
2) slight glide
3) not bad
4) Pretty darn good... more »

Terje: Why do SkiO's only skate?
|
| |
Hi... This one's for Terje. I just looked into Ski-O. It seems they only skate. The online handbook says that skating off-trail in narrow conditions in loose snow up hills is hard and to herringbone and get purchase with the tips in the snow to the sides. It sounds miserable. Herringbone also doesn't work at all with un-kickwaxed skate-skis. Ugh! But it must be faster overall. On the flipside, such conditions sound perfect for classic. I suppose most SkiO courses only have a small amount of offtrail and one makes up the time on the groomers?... more »

olsson, Manificat, Hellner, Northug, Cologna
[link]
What's up with Peter Northug ? Is he actually achieving to push backward instead of sideway ? For the overwhelming majority of us, trying to push backward induces hips rotation and has negative effects. This is generally a wrong catch from too much inline rollerskate.... more »

Classic Roller Skis: Swenor v. Ski-Go v. V2
|
| |
Getting a jump on the spring...
I'm intrigued by videos of Ski-Go's classic rollerski that has natural looking "flex" with every kick ([link]) Seems like this would make it a lot easier on the joints than pounding a kick into a stiff aluminum shaft.
The problem is, the video also makes it look like the wheels are pretty fast (and other reviews confirm it's faster than Swenor or V2's slow wheels).... more »
