There's a possibility that one of the usual suspects might have a copy
of the NRK broadcasts soon.

Petter N is looking _very_ strong, with a 1st (skate) and a 2nd
(classic) place in the two first individual start races.
OEB is _not_ fit enough yet to skate with the "big guys".
It also looks like Marit Bjrgen might be back. :-)

Sheddir, At what link did you pick up the NRK broadcast? Last season
what had previously worked didn't.

This is a bit like saying, eh, that Godzilla is looking _very_ strong.
In other words, if his only remaining weakness is going to be his big
mouth - which isn't too likely to cost him much on the tracks - what
chances do the rest have?
Well, it's a long season...
On the non-skiing front, Petter has met with some negative reactions
from the national health authoritiy after signing a sponsoring deal
with Red Bull and with some protests from the national skiing
federation after sporting the logos of his private sponsors instead of
those of the national team.

I understand that since this is an Olympic year, many of the big guys
and the usual suspects are going to be a little less competitive
during the early part of the season and wily old fox OEB probably more
so than the others.
The pure XC guys and gals are likely to fall into two groups: those
whose season goals also include the Tour de Ski and those who perhaps
only plan to be in top form for certain key (for them) World Cup
races.

With a completely - or somewhat? - revamped training program - and
philosophy? - after last season's catastrophe and tears. She is
certainly one of the athletes whom many, especially in the other XC
nations, most love to hate and it would be a pity if she were to to
fade out like that. OTOH it is rather difficult to judge true season
from from performances in the opening races and we'll have to wait at
least until the "real" Beitostølen race before getting our hopes up.
With Marit in mind, it's perhaps interesting to note that young "Ms
Duracell" Therese Johaug chose to drop her former coach Fredrik
Aukland in favour of Egil Kristiansen who has given her a Bjørgen-type
training program with high intensity blocks (such as doing eight hard
sessions within six days).
Meanwhile in Finland, Aino-Kaisa Saarinen has expressed her intention
to be in winning shape both at the TdS and the Olys, where she aims to
start in all races. She has also chosen to publish all her doping
tests on her blog, a la Lance Armstrong. Virpi Kuitunen is following
suit in this, but she has said that she will enter only the classic
races and the relays in Vancouver. On the private front, she has
entered into a relationship with a Finnish management and personal
development guru, who has among other things set up LED-equipped signs
that declare "Fear less", "Love more" and "Fight harder" along the
path she has used for dryland training...
Among the men, Matti Heikkinen was the first athlete to get himself in
the headlines by catching a bout of swine flu - he has recovered and
raced well at the season opener in Olos - but Sami "Musti" ("Blackie",
as in a dog's name) Jauhojärvi is still most likely to satisfy the
hopes and the demands of the Finnish TV audiences in February and
March.

Indeed, she has a rather unrivalled series in the Norwegian season
opener: she has won every single 10 F and 5 C, usually as a double,
since 2003, when she was beaten in the classic race by Hilde G
Pedersen (who IIRC started her amazing late rise to the international
top that winter in that race in Beitostølen). She always did rather
well in Düsseldorf in the years when the World Cup started with that
city sprint event.
