The conditions were excellent (for SoCal anyway) - machine-groomed
packed powder, all trils open, all lifts open except Chairs 5 and 11
that were not needed anyway, and the weather was crisply cold with
bright sunlight fading into overcast in the afternoon so very little
got sloppy.

I rented some better demos - Nordica SportMachine - which may be the
most fun skis I have ever tried.

The only time I waited in a lift line longer than just walking-through
time was when the Chair 1 stopped for a few minutes and a backlog
built up. As a result, I had to quit about 3:30 PM due to dehydration
and muscle cramping.

My son's girl passed her first test - she was ready at 4:15 when we
got to her house, and she didn't complain when we told her she had to
sit in the pickup cab crew seat.

Now for the hard news - I rode up one time with a member of SS senior
management. I complimented the non-existent lift line, but asked how
they were going to stay in business with so few skiers. He told me
that unless business picks up soon, they will be laying off a lot of
hourly part-time workers and demoting full-time salaried employees to
those jobs. Ouch!

Crap. Apparently you and I are the only ones to visit, so it's not all that
surprising. I guess they can close one or the other temporarily if it gets
really bad. Based on the websites, my bet is to close SS.

Another note: while I was riding up with the Senior Manager, and we
were discussing Ski School personnel cutbacks, I asked him what the
title would be for those demoted to the lowest part-time, hourly
level. He gave me a funny look, then said "You mean Ski Instructors?"

I always quit at 1:00. If I don't I might kill somebody, myself included.
Nothing hurts, it just refuses to obey.

Sometimes kids surprise you. That must be why we let them live.

Given my one and only experience with ski instruction, I'd say he's got it spot
on. To be fair, though, aside from that one turkey (yeah, I got my money back),
the instructors I've chatted with seem like a reasonable bunch.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Why do men's hearts beat faster, their knees get weak, their throats
become dry and they think irrationally when a woman wears leather clothing?
Because she smells like a new truck.
