it is if you are a real man. You probably think a derringer pocket gun (

Glad you think RealMen need big pistols.

I generally carry a Kel-Tec. Either a PF-9 or a P3-AT (depending on what
I am wearing/where I am going). Neither is a tackdriver at 50 ft, but I
won't be using it at 50 ft either.

Concealable is better in most social situations.

Still, it's remarkable how many people think it is and carry one adequately
concealed. My personal concealed weapon, at the moment, is an XD 9 Sub
Compact. Except for the short barrel, it's nearly the size of a Glock.

Speaking of XDs, I heard a rumor that the FBI is abandoning Glock in favor
of XDs. I must say that's a bit of a surprise.

I also have a P3-AT for when a fanny pack would be inappropriate.

A friend of mine carries a full sized 1911 via a clip mounted to holes
drilled and tapped into the slide. It conceals quite well. I may adopt his
method to oen of the smaller 1911 pistols once I've lost the rest of my
excess weight and assuming I can find a 1911 I want to carry.

The 29 is fairly small, IIRC.

> The Gold Cup isn't good enough?

The Gold Cup is the worst 1911 I have, or was until I spent money to fix the
kinds of things that Colt should have addressed before it left the factory.
Even now that it's fixed, it's not the best for concealed carry. Both my
Gold Cup and my Kimber have target sights that are higher profile and have
sharp edges. They also have magazine wells, which forces me to put base
pads on my mags. Both the mag wells and pads make the gun harder to conceal
effectively.

My Colt Delta Elite 10mm has combat style sights and would work better, but
it also has a mag well. Also, it's a pretty heavy gun and, even with the
added weight, full power loads have a heavy enough recoil that double taps
are not usually an option.

If I decide to go with a 1911, which is quite possible, it could be one of
several. I already have a Colt Government Model .380 that is considerably
more accurate than my KelTec, but no more powerful. I'm also considering A
Springfield Armory EMP in 9mm or, should they make one, in .40. The Kimber
Aegis, another sub compact 9mm is also a possibility. Other options include
a Commander or Officer's model size gun in anything from .45, to .40 (my
preference) to 9mm.

There are lots of options better, and more easily concealed than anything I
currently have, and I'm in no hurry. I don't carry all the time and, when I
do, it's more to be prepared for the unlikely need. I don't actually expect
to ever use a gun defensibly, even though I have on a couple of occasions,
and I have an even lower expectation of having to fire one defensively,
something I've not had to do so far, but am fully trained and practiced to
do. What I have now, is as good as what I might prefer, until I have to use
it.

You're happy to see money and effort spent to improve vehicle safety

When the weather had cools down enough that I can wear a jacket, I can
carry a full frame 1911 style .45 in a a belt slide type holster that I
picked up a few years ago... It keeps the .45 close into the body and
canted forward so that the grips do not stick out in the back... Even a
thick baggy denim shirt over the top seems to conceal it well enough,
but adding the leather jacket makes it virtually unnoticed as long as I
don't do stupid things like bending over while reaching for something
with my right hand... The same type of carry also works well for the
Berreta 96FS that I own, but since it has a thicker grip, I do not
believe that it ends up hiding as well against the body... I've never
had anyone mention it when I was carrying, so I think it is just that
I'm a bit more self-conscious when I have that thicker grip pressing
into my side... With this type of holster, I used a carry position that
is slightly to the rear of the side seam on my pants so that it is not
noticeable even if I have my jacket unzipped... Of course you need a mid
length jacket for this sort of thing... I have one that is cut somewhat
similar to the M65 field jacket, but in leather, and it hangs down far
enough to hide the barrel even when I'm reaching for things...

not exactly an accurate way of finding out the thoughts of the population,
the problem with these polls is that the voters self select whereas in a
properly run opinion poll they are selected to give a representative view of
the population

Kind of a fixed poll, isn't it?

Here's the language of the Second -
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free
State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed."

What other meaning could possibly be taken from those words? But just
because the folks who responded were bright enuf to comprehend what
was said so clearly doesn't mean they believe that the reasons for
that dictum several hundred years ago haven't changed with time
Wishful thinking is clouding your judgement and apparently the
jusdgement of the folks who issued that poll. It's obvious where their
sympathies lie, isn't it. Ask the honest question. See what answer you
get to that.

Instead of "Does the second amendment give individuals the right to
bear arms?" ask something like "Should there be stricter controls on
availability of certain kinds of guns?" or "Should there be more
stringent standards imposed for possession of guns?" or "Should the
penalties for illegal use of a firearm be increased?" and so on.

That question falls into the same cheesy category as the one that asks
"Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" An honest answer will only
serve to incriminate you, or count as a vote against your personal
beliefs. It means nothing. In fact it means worse than nothing. It
causes any right thinking individual to question the ethics behind the
whole pro-gun push if they have to rely on cheap parlour tricks to
create an illusion of right.

It's like the question Scott posted earlier, trying to ride the
coattails of a legitimate poll with a trick question in hopes that no
one here was smart enuf to pick up on his artifice. His gullibility
speaks volumes about why the progunners keep shooting themselves in
the foot when they try to jam their personal agenda down others'
throats.

Perhaps it is. But it goes to demonstrate the fallacy in your arguments
regarding peoples attitudes and firearm ownership.

If your wish were indeed the case, then there might have been a
continuation of the AWB. Instead, the politicians let it die because
they wanted to be reelected.

Many folks feel that the AWB led to the republicans getting the majority
after it was passed. They may be right, they may be wrong. There were
many reasons for the dissatisfaction, but this may be art of it. A
significant part.

As opposed to you shoving your agenda down ours?

I'll gladly drop this if you will stop posting BS and opinion here. I
only respond because you post twisted facts and innuendo and opinion as
fact. You stop, I will. While you are entitled to your opinion, you are
not entitled to misrepresent facts.

You can make this al go away. Just stop.

"More stringent standards" would run afoul of the clearly written 2nd
amendment.

You'll find that the penalties for most crimes are increased if firearms are
used to commit them.

Is that the only measure of a man? I've always said you're a talented
guy when it comes to making dive bits, and apparently you do some gun
stuff as well. It's too bad you don't have the business acumen to
match your creative abilities. You'd probably be wealthy today.

>Ever make *anything*, other than an ass of yourself over the America
>and gun owner bashing?

Not much except for a reasonably successful career that's lasted over
32 years. A marriage that's lasted almost 40 years and is still going
strong. A good relationship with our son and with my Mom and my
siblings. A degree of respect from my professional peers. I can't say
I did any of these single handedly but I was involved in building and
running a few race cars, a couple of street rods, a few motorcycles &
snowmobiles but nothing as exciting as your backplates. All important
things to me though. Your values may differ.

I admit I envy guys like you who learned a trade instead of just
going to school and reading a lot. One of the most impressive
constructs I ever witnessed personally was a half scale working Harley
v-twin built by a machinist friend of mine. Your plates are nice but
they don't come close to that engine.

Lets see...do you remember writing the following?
Heck, it was wrtitten today!

"You missed if all the money spent by the NRA to promote guns hadn't
been spent, might there be fewer sad occurences like that latest one
happening?

Instead of helping people like that go over the edge and take innocent
people with them, what about spending the money and effort wasted in
defence of guns for a more positive cause, like help for homicidal
maniacs instead of negative reinforcement, encouraging them to have
and use guns?

Pay attention to the last sentence, and how it relates to the whole.

It's pretty clear that the second paragraph talks about "people like that go
over the edge" and "homicidal maniacs", so it's pretty clear that is what
"them" refers to in your question. The phrase "the money" refers to the
money spent by the NRA.

Money from law abiding American Citizens to help the NRA protect their
rights from idiots like Francis. The NRA isn't some whole other being,
it represents millions of decent, intelligent, law abiding Americans,
including law enforcement.

I am glad you have the time and patience, but it will make no

From a military standpoint, it is. Violence has been quelled. That's
gonna happen when you put 30,000 US Soldiers on the street.

From a political standpoint, quell the violence to give the government
time to get their shit together, it has been a abject failure. The

And as I also said, I'm pretty sure the South Koreans consider it to be a
nice victory.
Be careful about typoing (I presume noe is a typo) BTW, you'll cause JOF no
end of confusion.

I know one guy that's ever fabricated parts for a MotoGP class

You are not he.

Scott is.

I still drool when I see something really worth drooling over, but only
then.

Only half bald, so far.

Incontinent, that's another story. Some stain their fancy pants by the
early sixties, I hope I'm history before I make that much of a mess.......

I wouldn't even have mentioned it if I hadn't worked for UVa. It's
easy to get 'em confused, and besides UVa and Virginia Tech, there's
VCU and VMI.

Yep.

Might have been able to stop the shoplifting of a CD.

Same people who think they need to shoot up a mall, kill innocent people,
and then commit suicide.

Thanks for the back-up brudda, but I am afraid it is a waste of time trying
to educate this one.

Plus, I prefer that he keep running his suck from his fortified bunker of
ignorance and bigotry, he wears it like a pair of expensive slacks.

Gawd, I hope so.

I cleared my killfile. I have a couple days off, the roads cleared and I am
home.

And, best of all, I am sick of their shit.

Plus, We are kicking the shit out of the ragheads, in spite of the best
efforts of the morons to make Us lose this war.

Must suck to impotent at such an early age.
