I'm shopping for a diver's insurance. There are lots of them available.
They all cover from 50-300K per incident. That is a very wide range. How
much is enough? Any recommendations?

How much depends on how fucked up you get when your dive goes bad. But keep
in mind that coast guard helicopter evac and recompression chamber time is
VERY expensive. That's a worse case scenario, but then isn't that was
insurance if for? I get the most I can afford, it's not really that
expensive anyway (1 year cost about half my monthly for normal medical
insurance).

I personally would go with DAN, not only do they insure you, but they also
provide the knowledge base to aid doctors in caring for your dive related
injuries (since most doctors won't have the experience). And if you get
their highest level, they even reimburse you if you miss out on a dive
vacation because you get sick or injured before or during (and it doesn't
have to be a dive accident, just anything that prevents you from diving).

Both PADI and DAN have good coverage and you should look at both of them.
I picked DAN to support the other things they offer.

PADI has travel cancellation insurance on higher level as well. Do you know
how it works? Can I just call and say: "Ooops, I'm congested. I won't be able
to dive. Give me my money back."?
