Bad management. Same reason every company goes broke. Great looking computer. I was close to getting one but ended up getting a Mares Icon once Uemis went belly up.

There's some features on it that I like, but they're not particularly
critical to the type of diving I most typically do, so its more of a
case of 'want' rather than 'need'. Mostly, I'm seeking if this is
expected to be competing at around the $500 device level, at the a $1K
device level, more, less, etc.

I was just being tongue in cheek. But I suspect it's quite pricy. It looks (from the website) to be very advanced. But as you say the tool has to be right for the work. This seems very Buck Rogersish but it may have the elements that some divers need and a lot more 'want'.
